Martin Luther King, Jr. day is past, so I'm a bit late in posting this... But it is never too late to remember the lessons and example of Dr. King and his mentor Bayard Rustin, someone who will hopefully be better known for his contributions to the Civil Rights movement and his activism.
Go
here to read writer Clay Cane's blog on Rustin and to watch two videos about him.

A great documentary. Bayard Rustin was brilliant, beautiful and brave. One of my heroes.

Thank you for posting this. He's definitely one of my heroes too. Its tough being out and black in 2008. I can't even imagine it back in Jim Crow days.

A documentary about Rustin just aired on Logo this past weekend. I assume there will be repeats. Right now their website says the next showing is Feb. 16th but that could always change.

Just as an aside, I urge everyone to read the books by Taylor Branch about the King years. They are American classics and there are whole chapters devoted to Rustin and his influential role.

There was a fantastic documentary on Bayard Rustin at the Castro a few years back. I'm not sure if it's the same one that just aired on LOGO but it's well worth seeing whether you're black, out, or otherwise.

Thanks for that! I will check those books out.
