Not to bait 'pitching machismo' types, but I would not have let Pelfrey pitch the 9th. He has just surpassed last year's innings total (his career high?) at age 24. Remember how "important" a 9-1 complete game is if he runs out of gas in the last 2 weeks.
WChip
I was feeling the same way- he should have come out (once they got it up to nine, I thought it MIGHT be safe to give it to the bullpen). They'll be needed tonight no doubt so they'll be rested, not that it seems to help- hopefully they can build up a safe lead before hand.
mets57
f**k every single one of these gutless cowards. f**k them.
Bill W
*sigh* "Gutless" has nothing to do with it. The Mets' current bullpen simply can't compete with the Phillies'.

Who else started getting ready for bed as soon as Schoeneweis came in? A position player would be more likely to get righties out.

I couldn't watch it! Knew the inevitable outcome. Watched HRC's speech at the DNC. Unlike the Mets, she toughed it out and never gave up!
Bill W
Let's not do that. I don't want the Mets to turn into professional, nepotistic, pantsuited liars who authorize wars...

ANYWAY, the buzz is Jon Niese will be taking Maine's rotation spot next week.
mets57
the bullpen sucks so much but why can't this f**king offense score runs after the fourth inning? they have +111 run differential 1-3 innings and -50+ runs differential 7+ innings. f**king piece of shit offense.

it's so f**king obvious that they mailed it in after pedro's garbage performance.

f**k this team.

yes, jon niese will likely make his first start september 2.
WChip
Actually the bullpen did pretty well for them- 3 runs in eight innings. If Pedro had given up only three or four instead of 5 ... The Phils' bullpen shut down the hitters in big situations- how many dp's did they hit into? I think they'll rebound tonight and if they don't, everyone will bombard them with even more references to last year.
mets57
OMG, I SO WANTED THIS WIN TONIGHT.

come from behind to boot.

tit for tat.

and MURPH breaks his slump and got a HUGEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE HIT in the 8th!!!! love it!

You must love it, santana57! SNY "Spotlight" just called Murphy "the most popular man in NY." Did you see him interviewed? Nice kid!
mets57
you bet i was waiting for murph's interview....

nasty thoughts entered my mind while listening to his interview. smile.gif
MetsfanChi
^ LOL

Big game, especially after last night's debacle.

For once, I'm a Cubs fan this week(end). Kick some ass boys.
mets57

murph's interview.

CBP sounded like shea in the 8th and 9th innings. AWESOME!
mets57
daniel reminds me of my ex who was irish. a real irish guy with an irish accent. and just as hunky. smile.gif
Bill W
s57. so that's a different kind of "f**k" this team?
mets57
only murph, not the entire team (i'm not attracted to mets players in general ).
Bill W
Also, in light of J-Roll's continual whining about Mets players "celebrating," can we officially make him the Philadelphia "punk-ass bitch" instead of Cole Hamels? Despite his dead-on "frontrunner" quote...
Joe in Philly
Maybe you should've thought that way back at the beginning of 2007. Why anyone would have some negative comments about Cole Hamels, other than his choice of a wife, is beyond all comprehension.

Or maybe the Mets ought not to dance at home plate in the third inning with a 6-0 lead with the bullpen they have.

Or maybe I just need to consider the source: Bill WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHH! WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!
mets57
the steady philly pen blows a three-run lead in the 8th to spoil hamels' fine effort.

second blown save in two days!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! smile.gif

i'm NOT that upset anymore about last tuesday's loss...... smile.gif

THANK YOU MADSON AND DURBIN (who is hot btw). biggrin.gif

MIAMI — Jerry Manuel recently questioned Daniel Murphy about hitting, and was surprised to hear Murphy answer him in the first-person plural. “He said, ‘Well, Nick and I ...’ ” Manuel recalled. “He included the other guy,”

Murphy and Nick Evans are Mets rookies and close friends; Manuel, the manager, was amused at Murphy’s reply, but he said he told Murphy: “I’m not talking to Nick. I’m talking to you.”

According to Manuel, Murphy acknowledged this, but nevertheless continued in the same vein. “Nick and I are just trying to put together quality at-bats,” Murphy told Manuel.

“And I thought that was impressive,” Manuel said.
Bill W
Maybe they shouldn't, JIP. And maybe Philly's fans shouldn't cannibalize their fraudulent "MVP" like he was a juicy cheesesteak if they want to shake the rep of being the most miserable fans in sports.

On to Miami, it could be a gaining-some-distance-opportunity weekend.
Joe in Philly
There you go again, Bill WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHH! WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH! It must really suck to be you.
WChip
JIP, the only one who's crying is you. Bwah, my Phillies are so good, but they're not in first. They both are not quality playoff teams and will probably get swept embarassingly like the Phils did last year.
mets57
and their bullpen lost three straight games, chipper.
BigBlueCowboy
for some reason, I like this view of your man Daniel Murphy, santana57: laugh.gif

Nice win over the Marlins, 5-4!
WChip
Nice big thighs! Carlos B. does something to back up his claim!
mets57
they've been choking in the clutch for 8 innings and waited for the final out to do something.

better late than never.

and the bullpen still gives me a coronary.

Where am I saying that? Had they hit like they should, they'd be in first. That's not the same as saying they're good.

As for the "frontrunner" crack I'm certainly not one night saying something like "big PELF with back-to-back complete games...DELGADO IS A FREAKING BEAST...HE'S JUST GOT SEXIER IN MY BOOK!"and following it up a couple days later with "f**k every single one of these gutless cowards. f**k them." (I don't mean to pick on you, santana57, but it helps demonstrate my point about Bill WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHH! WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH! whose sole purpose on earth seems to be to insult everyone and everything that doesn't meet his high and mighty standards.)

QUOTE

Depends on the opponent. If it's the Cubs, sure. If it's the Brewers, possibly. If it's the Dodgers or D-backs (or even the Rockies -- they're only 6 back in the NL West), I wouldn't necessarily bet against the NL East team. If the Brewers are the Wild Card they can't meet the Cubs in the first playoff round, so the matchups will depend on the division winners' final records.
mets57
lol jc romero celebrated like king kong after striking out the side in the 8th inning.

that's grit and heart and not showboating. blink.gif
WChip
The bullpen comes through again! I hope they bury Heilmann at the bottom of the bullpen rotation- with the callups soon to arrive, maybe we won't have to see him pitch again.
Joe in Philly
I think it's more appropriate if you strike out the side with the bases loaded in a close game in the 8th inning.
mets57
the worst bullpen i've seen in my entire life. all of them suck. not one can get the job done.

QUOTE

well, he still showed up the other team. it was excessive. as excessive as jose reyes's choreographed handshakes or joba chamberlain's pirouette dance on the mound.
WChip
A rare shutout for the bullpen!
mets57
jonathan niese will make his first start tuesday vs. brewers.

brewers mash southpaws. i can only he hope he keeps us in the game.

btw, brew will face three lefties (johan, niese, ollie).
mets57
three scoreless innings by the bullpen.

say it ain't so.

delgado with a clutch 2-run homer in the 8th.
WChip
Big game to win with Neise going tomorrow. Your boy Dan did well, too. Smith has done well with his one or two batter outings of late. Wright had had some disappointing at bats , but Delgado came through with the big hit- I feared his refound knack for clutch hitting would wane, but he's been something since June.

I misoverestimated the Cubs, hon. But now we're loving all the frontrunner sniping on your thread! biggrin.gif
Joe in Philly
Obviously you don't know what a "frontrunner" is any more than Jimmy Rollins. Then again, you're really only comfortable with numbers... rolleyes.gif
Bill W
I'm comfortable with Kyle Kendrick's numbers, how 'bout choo? biggrin.gif
Joe in Philly
And I'm comfortable with some numbers. Like 2007, for example.

my boy murph made things happen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ayala has been godsend!

Yep, LOVE those numbers.
