can't say I'm too broken up about Romney being out...
TheOtherFSU
He's such an idiot.

His statement: "If I fight on in my campaign, all the way to the convention, I would forestall the launch of a national campaign and make it more likely that Senator Clinton or Obama would win. And in this time of war, I simply cannot let my campaign be a part of aiding a surrender to terror."

Has he endorsed anyone?

Did someone say, "Running mate?"
WChip
I'm so happy that he's out- and that he's spent so many millions of his fortune to get to this point!

So what happens to his delegates? Do they align with Huckleberry? I know the Conservatives are unhappy with McCain, do they now fall in behind the preacher from Arkansas and try to push McCain aside.
CNN described the Conservatives has having spinning heads watching their world collapse as they are no longer relevent to politics in the US.

He has not endorsed anyone yet. I assume McCain would go for Huckabee for VP to get votes in the South & from the right wing of the party, and Mitt Romney would get a cabinet position. ??

All I have been hearing lately is this "lovefest" between Huckabee and McCain, while Romney was attacked by both. The TV pundits were all but naming Huckabee McCain's choice for VP. So if this is true then why the heck is Romney stepping aside and not Huckabee? Usually the person with the least delegates leaves first. If Huckabee really wants to be VP what good does it do to now campaign against McCain? I just find this whole political process very strange. Personally I would love to see some fireworks between those two who have been acting more like partners in crime then adviseries.

So what happens to his delegates?

As I understand it, because Romney has only suspended his campaign, those delegates already committed to him stay his, at least until the convention. From what I understand of the process, if no one candidate has clinched the number needed to win the nomination after the first roll call, they're then free to change. How all of that works I don't really know. It hasn't happened in so long.

Ta-ta, icky Romney. Go back under that judgemental rock from which you crawled. Your smile was as phoney as a three dollar bill.
Chill-Trick
Hey Mitler, don't let the door smash you in the ass on the way out.

It's funny, he is so full off himself that he doesn't even realize the real reason he's backing out....BECAUSE JUST ABOUT EVERYONE HATES YA!

What a pompous ass.

I'm glad the flip-flopping phony is gone. And what an a-hole he is, saying that a Democratic president would mean a "surrender to terror".

I think Huckaboob is staying in solely to cement his claim to running mate status. He knows that, if he wins any more states, especially Texas, that it will be very difficult for McCain or anyone else to deny him the VP spot for the purpose of placating the right wing extremists (notice I purposely refuse to use the term "conservative" for the W/Huck wing of the party).

Here's what I'm hoping to see: a debate involving McCain, Huckabee, and Paul. That will alert everyone who pays even minimal attention to such things of how dangerous both McCain and Huckabee are. Paul will sound like the voice of reason. I hope he stays in it through the fall, and if possible, can mount a third-party run. Siphon off as much Republican support as possible. And maybe Bloomberg will get in it as well, though I hope he stays away if Hillary is the nominee.

Thanks for that clarification. I was wondering the same thing.
But I'm still suspicious about Romneys sudden withdrawal. Just can't shake the feeling that he was paid off somehow from some unseen powers that be. Perhaps a certain 'council' or 'group'. Makes sense, he always flip-flops for the most money. At any rate, glad he's gone. Now that my write-in campaign for myself is picking up steam.

The problem is that with media already portraying McCain as the de facto nominee, the debate would be the equivalent of the tree falling in the woods.

Gotta admit I didn't see much of Romney over the campaign. Never really took him all that seriously I guess because I never thought he had a real chance. But watching this clip from A Daily Show, all I can say is damn we dodged a real bullet with this loon!

Did Mittens win the Maine caucuses today? Poor McCain, he's the presumptive nominee, and now Republicans are acting out and voting for Huckabee in Kansas and Louisiana, and Mittens in Maine. The inhumanity!

I guess it's hard out there for a BS-talking old warmonger.
mdterp01
No, only the Democrats were caucusing in Maine today. The Maine caucus for the Republicans already took place when Romney was still in the mix.

This question may be a bit morbid but what the hell. Romney hasn't officially dropped out and Huckabee is still plugging along. So what if the defacto nominee John McCain were to die before the convention. Anybody have any idea what happens to the delegates he's already won?
fantomas
That is a morbid question. I guess Huckabee and Romney would duke it out. My money's on Huck, who's got "miracles" on his side! tongue.gif

But I guess what I'm asking is what would happen to the dlegates that have already been committed? Would these delegates have to vote at the convention, thereby nullifying all the primaries and caucuses?
