Thanks to the writer's strike, we're getting a Big Brother during the winter for the first time. It begins next Tuesday, Feb. 12th.
The contestants and twist(s) were revealed yesterday and the houseguests are all securely in the house now already. Among the houseguests...
Joshuah, a 25-year old gay man living in Dallas who loves college football. He played football from 4th grade all the way through high school, hates snakes, describes himself as an exhibitionist, and slept with his sister's cheerleading coach, which ruined her cheer career.
Neil, a 29-year-old realtor from LA. He's gay and likes snowboarding and skiing, and enjoys watching figure skating.
This season's twist... there are 16 houseguests (the most ever) and all are single (the first time ever). Each filled out quesionnaires regarding their "ideal" partner prior to entering the house. The twist: Big Brother has found a "soul mate" for each houseguest... and though they don't know it yet, they will be paired up with that person and will play the game together. They will be forced to sleep together, be HOH together and when the time comes, they will be evicted together too. Should be interesting. Like last summer, the uncensored 3-hour nightly version will be available every night from midnight to 3 a.m. Hopefully Joshuah will put those exhibitionist tendencies to work then.

I know I will watch, but I can't help but think that Big Brother is kinda getting a bit like The Real World.
Just a bunch of pretty people put up in a house to see who will hook up. Seems like the last 3 BBs have been like that. Is that just me or what?

Feb 9 2008, 02:06 AM
I think Big Brother is a lot more interesting than Real World. The twists on BB make the show somewhat intriguing, as well as the voting process. And the fact that you're watching live makes it better. With Real World, you know going in that the show was taped sometimes 6 months to a year earlier. Plus, last season's Showtime latenight versions of BB were kinda riveting at times, though they got less interesting as the season wore on and the contestants started leaving. Oh, and there's usually lots of eye candy, which can be nice.

Of course I'm still trying to get that image of Amber and her full-frontal nudity out of my head from last July. Some things you just don't need to see.

Can I get a soapbox moment? It's been said a lot before, but after watching last night's episode, I'm still all worked up. 16 total, 1 over 30, 1 person of color, how many white blonde women? Huh? Are things @ CBS that small minded? (yes. obviously, I'll stop ranting in a minute) Should we be content that there's a (white) gay guy or two? I stopped watching this and other shows like "Survivor" several seasons ago. But I ate crow, when they worked to change things on "Survivor" and it became much more interesting as the cast became more diverse. I'm foolish to continue to be disappointed, but I can't help it.

I will cut CBS some slack here. Sure we'd like to see a show featuring a more diverse group of people, but this one was really slapped together on a whim and only occurred because of the writer's strike. It's not like the people at CBS casting had hundreds of thousands of people to choose from. In fact, Big Brother is one of those shows where you literally have to be able to push aside 3 months of your life when you enter. There are not many people who are willing to do that (at least not everyday normal people). You're gonna get the buxom blonde actress wannabes and that ilk. Even one of the gay guys is a realtor in LA... and with the state of the real estate market in southern California, he can afford to take 3 months off and hope to win $500,000 because in the real world of real estate, he isn't going to make any $$$ for the next 3 months anyway.
Big Brother has had an Asian winner, an over-40 winner and a handicapped winner in its first 8 seasons. Also, there have been contestants of all races, orientations, religions and backgrounds over the 8 seasons. I'm already hooked after watching the Showtime feed last night. Major drama here already.

For sure the under 30 crowd is more likely to be able to take three months off. There's good drama on the Showtime feeds already? Like what?
TheOtherFSU
Feb 13 2008, 03:20 PM
Well the Showtime live feeds are way ahead of the regular series. For instance, one couple had already been voted off before yesterday and are gone. The duo that won Head of Household on last night's CBS show had already been replaced by a new couple that won HOH. And...
DON'T READ ANY FURTHER IF YOU DON'T WANT TO KNOW POTENTIAL SPOILERS....
THIS IS YOUR LAST WARNING SO STOP NOW.
... the blonde woman Jen and her hunky boyfriend who came onto the show together but were split into different teams already spilled the beans about their relationship to the other houseguests. It caused major friction in the house. So that secret was revealed way early into the season. Jen and her "soul mate" partner Parker got into a major fight and Parker is saying he won't cooperate with Jen in the game even though she's his partner. He's vowed to throw every competition. Lots of drama last night. Already eliminated was the couple that came in together following a 12-year relationship where he cheated on her. Also, the gay guy Joshuah from Texas got naked on the Showtime feed last night in case you're interested.

I love Big Brother. It is my favorite reality TV show because of all of the shows out there, Big Brother is probably the only one that I could see myself competing in.
This seasn will be interesting.
It seems as if a few of the women and men look alike. I am sure it will not be long before I am able to see the difference between the people that look alike.
I like that Jen and Parker were paired together. They seem like the most unlikely couple.
Sheila should take it easy on Adam. I think she really over-reacted. I don't think Adam is the most attractive guy in the house, but they might actually make a good team. She never gave him a chance. I am sure Sheila will mellow out as the season progresses.
I hope the gay couple don't get voted off too soon. It seems as if they really didn't try very hard to win last night's competition.

Damn! I'm not sure how they're going to handle it on the show, but on the live feeds last night, there was nothing for a long while... and then the feeds came back and showed Joshuah crying. Apparently something happened with someone in Neil's family, and Neil had to leave the show. It happened suddenly and now Josh is all sad and it seems like he and Neil had a real connection. He was taking it very hard... couldn't eat dinner with the rest of the house and was crying in his room when Parker and Chelsia came to comfort him. I guess the exit happened so quickly that there were no goodbyes or anything. That sucks. The producers gave Josh the option of who he wanted to come back to the show and be his partner (he only had 2 choices and he picked Sharon). So now he's teamed up with a straight woman. Totally takes one of the more intriguing aspects out of the show.

I'm sorry to see Neil leave. I would have liked to have seen more of him and Josuah together. They spent a week together, 24 hours a day. They must've gotten close, even sharing a kiss. Josuah was hurt when Neil left, so abruptly.
How nice is it to see Joshuah, be not your stereotypical gay man. He actually has LOVE handles. He just seems real, not afraid to show emotion.

I'm guessing we're all fans of the show or we wouldn't be posting on this thread, right? Well... hopefully you all remember hunky Nick from last season. He's the one who supposedly had the big crush on Danielle, Dick's daughter. Well, in a shocker (though nothing surprises me much anymore in the world of reality TV), Nick and Danielle ended their fling a few months ago and Nick has a new girlfriend. You'll never guess who it is (OK, you won't have to guess because here's the pic below showing the couple alongside BB's other couple, Jessica and Eric). Who could've believed that those two would hook up?

I originally thought Allison would be cool. I now realize she is a big head case. She really over-reacted with the whole Jen & Ryan thing. Allison needs to see a therapist.
Is the Jen & Ryan thing really that important? I don't think it will change the game very much.
However, I do think that Jen & Ryan should have tried to keep the news to themselves for as long as they could.
Now there is a big target on their and their partner's heads.

I can't believe how far behind the CBS show is. In real time, so much more has gone on in the house that has gone unaired. In most seasons, the CBS version is only a day or so behind, but this time they are behind by almost an entire week. Neil has been gone since Feb. 13, but they didn't even mention it last night and aired the show like he's still around. There was major drama last night in the house... huge fight.
This season is much more sexual than in recent ones. Natalie sucked Matt off the other night (and apparently swallowed), and Matt told her afterwards, "No cuddling," and then he winking at one of the cameras in the room. Natalie, James and Chelsia the other night went fully naked into the jacuzzi. And James revealed two of his special talents... one was hilarious. It's also come to light that James has done some j/o videos for a gay web site. Link available on request.

Here's something I don't get about this show. Well actually it's one of the many things I don't get. People send in audition tapes like Survivor and The Amazing Race right? So how do a pair of exes end up together? And how does a couple end up on the show? Did one part of these pairs apply and the producers sought out the other person? They weren't advertising for audition tapes from couples right?
And it's so funny how these folks cry and carry on when someone gets evicted after a couple of days. "I love you" after knowing somebody for two days? Really??? And that older woman is a freakin' loon. The guy she is paired with is a creepish bore but jeez!

Joshuah isn't that interesting to me. In fact, at least on the live feeds, he can be a jerk. He went off on an unbelievable tirade against Amanda last night. He was screaming at her for several minutes in front of everyone and called her the 'c' word repeatedly (yes, the Jane Fonda 'c' word) and then told her she should kill herself like her dad did. It was ridiculous, and Amanda (who's no saint by any stretch) was bawling her eyes out when Josh said that about her dad.
By the way, I'm getting my live feeds mixed up with the CBS version and I can't remember if Amanda mentioned that her dad committed suicide on the CBS show or on the live feeds. The fight last night began with Chelsia confronting Amanda about some lies and then it evolved into Joshuah going off on Amanda and pretty soon the whole house was there and it lasted a looooong time. Non-stop yelling and accusations and cussing for probably an hour.
Amanda also allegedly used the word 'rape' against Alex, and told someone that Alex tried to "finger" her in bed the previous night. Alex denies it, and now the whole house is against Amanda, which in turn means that Alex will probably be going home soon. I'm not sure how I like this partner twist to the game. Alex is my favorite, though I haven't warmed up to anyone really other than him yet.

Thank you for giving me information on what happens in the house that is not actually aired and or before it is aired. This makes a season that has been boring so far, more interesting.
It seems as if this season has several head cases.
They should probably bring in a therapist as part of a competition.

I have been watching the feed on showtime. are the feeds online better? To me, the house is turning into a bad episode of The Real World. Way too much teenage drama. Joshuah does nothing for me. Everyone is so bitchy. would love to see more flesh though.
TheOtherFSU
Feb 19 2008, 01:54 AM
The online feeds are pretty much the same except that there are more cameras and you can choose which ones you want to watch.
The latest gossip in the house... I think it was last night that Sheila and Allison told Joshuah that they had a secret. Of course Josh wanted to know. Sheila and Allison told him that they've been lesbian lovers for years and they swore him to secrecy. By the way, their lesbianism is not true and they were joking and wondering if he'd believe them. So... now Josh can never keep a secret so he's already told Sharon and god knows who else. It should be interesting to see how this one plays out.
On the CBS version, they kind of make Sheila out to be worse than she really is. On the live feeds she's actually not bad, and she's one of the more likeable people in the house. We've found out that she's a former Penthouse pet and posed for the mag some 20 years ago or something. Oh, and a national autism group called Autism United has demanded an apology from CBS after Adam's comment about "retards." He's an idiot and I'm glad Sheila called him out on that one.

Parker and Jen were eliminated in a 3-1 vote. Jen told some in the house -- before she left -- that her boyfriend is a racist. Then he got very angry when he heard about it, he confronted her, and she said she never said it. Immediately after that, CBS ran the clip of Jen saying it again. And yep, she definitely told the other houseguests that he's "a racist." Who knows how that relationship will go once he sees the tape. Ryan was pissed and implied that they were over if he found out she said that. After the elimination, the HOH competition was held and James/Chelsia are the new HOH team this week. Later, James/Chelsia nominated Alex/Amanda and Matt/Natalie for eviction. I'm really hoping Alex isn't out.
Oh, and James has a video online entitled "Very Big Brother." Let's just say that James isn't exactly straight and is on the well-endowed side.

This seems to be one unlucky season...
It's being reported that two more houseguests have left due to medical emergencies with no word yet or whether or not they'll be returning.
Amanda collapsed and began seizuring and Natalie had a terrible allergic reaction to something in the house. There's youtube footage of Amanda's seizuring and it's quite disturbing.
This year's cast definetely has a taste for the dramatic.

Apparently it was a reaction to the slop or something like that. They're both back in the house now. I think it was about a week ago that Jen had some sort of weird rash that she thought she got from the beds in there too. Maybe there's a mold problem or something in the BB house. BTW, Josh and Sharon won the POV a couple of days ago. I believe that airs Tuesday. Again, this season is way behind what is actually happening in the house.

When he gets out...he won't have a job.
Apparently he’s been fired from his job for the comment he made in the house about autistic children. An advertiser has pulled its ads and another group asked for Adam’s termination and the cancellation of the show. The United Autism Foundation explains his firing in a statement on its website.
The group’s statement says:
“The UNITED AUTISM FOUNDATION does not agree with any and all irresponsible comments made by Adam Jasinski about children and adults who have been diagnosed with autism. AUTISM is one of the fastest growing disorders in the country. Unfortunately, Adam Jasinski made some comments, which are not acceptable and we deeply apologize to all those who are affected by this overseen disorder. UNIAF is trying to create awareness and help all those who have been diagnosed with autism. UNIAF does not agree with any personal comments made by Adam Jasinski. This actually is turning into an entertaining and interesting season, especially when it was basically just intended to be a filler during the writer's strike. Last night's show with the paramedics rushing into the house after Amanda collapsed was even on the riveting side. I bet BB is wishing it had cast this group for the summer when the ratings are a lot better. Going up against American Idol two nights out of the week was certainly never intended to be a ratings winner. We've had tons of full-frontal nudity so far, some of the biggest fights in the house ever, medical problems, oodles of controversy and some major drama. I read that even though the ratings on the CBS version are down significantly from last summer, the ratings on the Showtime uncensored version are soaring.

I'm sure they were each asked to record goodbye messages to all 4 of the potential evictees. The houseguests had no idea what was going to happen.
And Ryan's own girlfriend called him a racist on the show, so I think the jury's still out on how much of a "good guy" he is.
Overall I think this is a good twist, albeit one that many saw coming. I wouldn't doubt if later on there is another twist and couples are formed again.

Yeah but unless they've recorded goodbyes to all 4 nominees each prior week then they had to know something was up. And if they did record them that way in all previous weeks it kind of defeats the purpose of them believing they are playing as teams. I'd be saying to myself "Why am I saying goodbye to only Allison but not Ryan?"
As for Jen calling Ryan a racist, she strikes me as the type that would say or do anything to stay in the game so I'm not sure I'd put too much stock in what she said. It could be true but we've seen no evidence other than Jen's comments to people she was trying to secrue votes from.
