I will arrive in south Florida (Fort Lauderdale) on the evening of March 7th and depart in the early morning hour of March 17th. I will be staying with family in Palm Beach County (Lake Worth area), but plan to spend a lot of time in Fort Lauderdale and maybe a little time in Dade County.

What suggestions for things to do do you guys living in south Florida have for that time of a year for a person visiting?

Any recommendations on clubs to visit? Places to eat? Any special events or festivals going on at that time of year?

I know spring break is going on during that time of year. What impact do spring breakers have during that time of year?

I visited south Florida during the Christmas and New Year holidays and had a good time.

Thanks in advance for the suggestions guys.

a couple of things to think about.

Try to be here during "Winter Party" it is a blast!!! unlike your normal tired-ass boring circuit parties..... this party is in the day time, on the beach in south beach with some of the hottest men around in full open air sunlight. The other things to do are just hanging out at Sebastian Beach or in Wilton Manors to just chill. Wilton Manors is a gay city in Fort Lauderdale.

Lake Worth!!!! Ugh.. nothing to do there except go to a chevron station or go to Macy's.

Come south and to the coast. Lake Worth is too far north and too far inland.

Ung, you are a sweetheart for responding.

My family is in Lake Worth. That is the only reason I will be there. Technically, they are in an unincorporated part of Palm Beach County that is surrounded by Lake Clarke Shores, Lake Worth and Palm Springs.

I don't know anything about Macy's nor a Chevron station. I think I have seen a rainbow flag outside some bar on Dixie in Lake Worth.

Wow, Winter Party sounds cool. I had originally thought about coming that week. I knew nothing, though, about Winter Party. I live in Tennesse and it is probably about a 13 to 14 drive to South Beach. I have already book my air tickets for March 7th to the 17th and reserved my rental car. Is Winter Party something that happens in South Beach every year?

I definitely enjoyed Wilton Manors when I was in south Florida during the Christmas and New Year holidays. Never made it to Sebastian Beach, though. Haven't been there in a few years. I need to buy me a decent bathing suit and head there when I am down in March.

If you don't mind, I will send you a private message.

Not too many clubs left in Dade County...a few on the Beach that don't really get going until the wee hours of the morning...that being said, South Beach is a fun place to hang out during the day...
If you are into this type of thing, Fairchild Tropical Garden in Coral Gables is a great place to visit during the day...The family would like it, too...
They currently have 3 sculpture exhibits going on...worth a visit.

Lots of decent restaurants in Broward and Palm Beach Counties...
Agree with Wilton Manors for fun...The rare times that we go out, we end up driving up there...wish it was a bit closer.... sad.gif

there are more and more places to go out in Miami-Dade now though...

on any given sat or sun day, I love hanging out at 12th street beach and hanging out at The Palace around the evening time, great music, decent eats at the outdoor sidewalk tables... and always hot argentinean/cuban/brasilian guys to dance with. . . Plus the beach itself has hot guys galore.

also if you're into the club scene, there's Halo and Score. I actually don't like to hangout at gay clubs. But I love to hang out and feel the vibe and energy of Lincoln Road on late nights during the weekends. It's more hip and cosmopolitan than anything in the region just hanging out at Balans or any of the other sidewalk eateries.

anyway.. no matter what you do.... there is something to be said about hanging out in flip flops and shorts on a beach in the middle of winter under palm trees when the rest of the country is freezing to death. :-)

I checked out the Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden website. It looks like a great place to visit. I'm sure my parents would love to see it, but I am not sure if they are up to doing much walking. However, I would love to visit it.

Thanks for the advice MiamiSpartan.

They have a nice tram that runs every hour or so...My folks can't do much walking, either, so the tram is a nice alternative...plus the guide gives great information during the tour....

This past Sunday was a gorgeous day here. The BF was here; we had a very nice brunch in Coconut Grove, then spent the afternoon at Vizcaya, which is really impressive. The best part was watching all the quinceanera parties being photographed on the grounds at Vizcaya biggrin.gif.
