Hysterically funny, on-the-money quote from Leyland that punctures the illusions of hack writers:
QUOTE
That (stuff) is all overrated. Write that. All that (stuff) is overrated about the clubhouse. We've got a great clubhouse. We had a great clubhouse before Dontrelle got here, and we'll have a better clubhouse since he got here, because he's a good guy and a wonderful person. I'm interested in pitching and getting outs, hitting, making plays. I'm not interested in the clubhouse.
"All that (stuff) has been media (stuff) for years -- great chemistry, great clubhouse. That's the biggest bunch of (baloney) in the history of sports. Every time somebody wants to talk about great chemistry, (forget) the chemistry in the clubhouse. I'm interested in winning games, period. I don't know who came up with it, but the worst word ever used now is chemistry. That's something you take in school. That's a class you take. If he gets people out, he'll be fun in the clubhouse. If we win games, I'll be fun in the clubhouse. If we don't, I won't be fun in the clubhouse, either. He's a wonderful, wonderful person with a great personality. We've got a bunch of them."
Good (stuff)!

I'm going to risk a prediction:
Detroit 95-67
Cleveland 90-72
Kansas City 85-77
Minnesota 85-77
Chicago White Sox 78-84
Hopefully I haven't jinxed my Tigers.

Not a tigger fan (as you know!)

, but frankly I don't see anyone being able to get past them unless they somehow stumble in a short playoff series...
They should at least return to the World Series.....
I do think the Sox will probably end up in 3rd, and possibly with 90 wins, but in that division, it won't mean squat....

The Royals should be very good this year and could make a serious run for the Central Division.
Tigers seem to be injury-prone.

I don't know that the Royals are making a run at anything, but if they do, good for them.
The Tigers are now the only team in MLB without a win, after their loss today to the White Sox.

What a lack of team chemistry the Tigers have. They look completely lost at every position. They need team leadership soon. How else to explain a blown no-hitter in 6 that becomes a 5-3 loss? UGLY. Tonight on live TV their problems will be visible for all to see.

That is, as Leyland spouted a few weeks ago, a bunch of writer bullsh*t.
A 6-game losing streak gets more attention at the start of the season than in July. The Tigers should still contend (tho I expect them to fall short of the wild card).
Last year's White Sox did not have talent on paper OR the field.

This should be in the Sox thread, but they did have essentially the same pitching staff that took them to the WS title 2 years prior. At that time, most people's opinion was that it was one of the top if not the top staff in the majors....2 short years later, that same staff imploded.
You also added Jim Thome to an already formidable lineup, which also didn't produce like they had in the previous two years....
Now back to Tiger baseball discussions.....

Tigers are switching Cabrerra to first base and Guillen to third.
Edited to add: Cabrerra and Guillen seem to be happy with that move as they both contributed to a lopsided victory over Texas Wednesday night.

The only good news is that the rest of the Central has been average thus far and noone has pulled away.
Sidenote- It is so surreal watching the game on ESPN while looking directly out my window at the blimp flying out there LOL

Just bought tickets for a game next week against the L.A. Dodgers on StubHub. What a difference in price compared to what I'm used to here in Boston for Fenway Park. It's like half the cost. Any must see/do's for Comerica Park?
Joe in Philly
Jun 5 2008, 04:48 PM
Are you talking about the face value prices or the prices on StubHub? Either way, it's a matter of supply and demand. There are fewer tickets available at Fenway and more people want to go to a Red Sox game.

Enjoyed going to Comerica the other night. Not a bad seat in the house. I was in the left field box. But I must say I had sticker shock at the price of beer; $8.25!! for Bud Light! Ouch. The Fenway price of 6.75 now seems like a bargain.

Getting rid of Pudge Rodriguez took a lot of wind out of their sails, for both the players and fans. The deal has not been successful for the Tigers by far and was really a dumbass trade.
Brandon Inge was such a bitch about being upset that he was not the designated starter at 3rd base and unwilling to be the utility/reserve player that Tom Brookens so willingly accepted on a championship back in 1984. Inge does not have the stats to dictate shit and he royally pisses me off. Now that he has his full-time position, he has yet to prove that he deserves a full-time position- batting .220 gets you nowhere and does not help the team. Way overrated defensively at 3rd base as well- making all those errors last season. This season he has definitely reined that in- so maybe being a regular utility player is what he should be doing....
Anyways- this team has underperformed ridiculously, especially the pitching staff- way too many injuries and simply not performing at a level they should be for those without injuries.
