Alright guys... I'm covering the NHL Trade Deadline for work today, so for those of you who are unable to follow the Trade Deadline... come on here and I'll keep all updated the instant deals get done!
So here we go... it's 11:36am EST... deadline is 3pm EST
Here are the trades up to this moment...
To New Jersey - (D) Bryce Salvador
To St. Louis - (F) Cam Janssen
To Florida - (D) Wade Belak
To Toronto - 2008 5th Round Draft Pick
To San Jose - (D) Brian Campbell
To Buffalo - (F) Steve Bernier, 2008 1st Round Draft Pick
No big surprise with the Belak deal to Florida. Cliff Fletcher is trying to free up cap space so they can try and fix this massive problem in T-O. In the meantime, Florida picks up a decent defenceman that will certainly add some size to your lineup.
Great move by San Jose in picking up a stud defenceman like Brian Campbell. That improves their blueline... gotta feel for Sabres fans who have seen their team ripped apart in the last little bit here.
BREAKING NEWS
Brad Richards has waived his no trade clause, and will be joining the Dallas Stars (11:43am EST)
To Dallas - (F) Brad Richards, (G) Johan Holmqvist
To Tampa Bay - (G) Mike Smith, (F) Jussi Jokinen, (F) Jeff Halpern
The Dallas Stars may have become a favorite to win the Stanley Cup. Brad Richards is a HUGE pick up and as long as Marty Turco can hold his own, the Stars could be lifting Lord Stanley's Cup high above their heads.
With that said, I'm a little surprised at the Jussi Jokinen move... afterall, the dude is clutch in shootouts which is always a nice advantage to have. But in the end, if it means getting Brad Richards, it's a move you definitely have to do.
BREAKING NEWS (11:51am EST)
To Washington - (G) Cristobal Huet
To Montreal - 2009 2nd Round Draft Pick
A shocking move to say the least. I thought Montreal had a great thing going with a "dynamic duo" in between the pipes with Huet and Carey Price. Very intriguing move...

Great job Enigma. this is my first chance all day to log on to the web.
I see my Leafs are all set now. A 5th round draft pick - look out NHL! Although that should be enough reason for MLSE to raise ticket prices by 10% next season!
Oh - did that sound just a wee bit bitter? What can I say Belak was fairly useless but at least he was hot to look at.

I think the Leafs are in shock that someone would even give up a draft pick for Belak. I hope someone told Belak that they'll be using him as their new mascot from now on...

Washington is 5 points out of a playoff spot and they're going for it.
Columbus is 5 points out of a playoff spot and they're selling. You'd think the Blue Jackets might want to make the playoffs for a change. I wonder what Ken Hitchcock thinks of this.
TSN just reported Hal Gill goes from Toronto to Pittsburgh.

I'm very surprised by this move. The Penguins gave up a ridiculous amount for Marion Hossa... yikes... they better win the Cup this year, or they just made a tragic mistake.

I'm more concerned about the Flyers not geting defensive help than what other teams have done. But Pittsburgh's really loaded up. On paper they ought to make a deep playoff run. A few days ago I thought Montreal was the favorite in the East. Now I'm not so sure, especially with their shocking trade of Huet.

Trade Deadline Day 2K8 is officially in the books... lots of trades... a few big names were moved as well. What were your thoughts???
- Pittsburgh was one of the big winners yet one of the big losers. They certainly gained ground in getting Marion Hossa. The only problem with that is that Hossa has a tendancy to choke come playoff time. Then again, he's never played on a line with a guy like Sidney Crosby so we'll see how that pans out.
I think that unless the Pens make it to the Stanley Cup Finals or win the Cup, this trade was a bust as they gave up a LOT for a rental player. Esposito and Armstrong were guys you just shouldn't part with ... but time will tell.
- What the hell is going on in Columbus? They're FIVE points out of a playoff spot... they'll have over $30 Million in cap space next season... why not jump in and get some names now... very bizarre. I feel sorry for fans of the Blue Jackets.
- Washington made a strong push with the addition of Huet, and Fedorov.
- Dallas has quickly becoming a favorite to lift Lord Stanley's Cup with the addition of Brad Richards. Richards and Ribeiro will be leaders on that club... now they need Marty Turco to be strong in between the pipes.
- What the heck is going on in Montreal? They're having one of the best seasons in years... so much excitement surrounding the club... and instead of helping to improve their team, they hurt themselves by getting rid of Cristobal Huet. Heaven forbid that Carey Price gets injured... cuz Halak ssure as hell isn't ready to be a starter.

Many people here were hoping Fedorov was coming back to the Red Wings.Oh well.

Feb 26 2008, 10:07 PM
Fedorov has 9 goals this year in 50 games. Assuming he plays in all 18 remaining Washington games, he's on a pace for 12. He scored 18 in 73 games last year and 12 in 67 games the year before. And this is post-lockout. He's well over the hill. Maybe he can provide some veteran leadership or a Russian buddy for Ovechkin or something, but he hasn't scored much in the last 3 years.

Sounds like the Sharks got one hell of a good and talented defenseman in Brian Campbell who is cute as a button as well. He can do it all, score goals and hit...they guys at Versus have been singing the praises for him Monday night and last night too...

His stock went way up because Dan Boyle was taken off the market when he signed his contract extension with Tampa Bay.
