I have these two websites that have a bunch of listings for Gay sports teams/activities in the area, but I have a question for the lot of you that play. I don't have many gay friends, let along gay friends that would be interested in sports, so does one just show up and get picked up on team(s)

Metsfan - i'm not sure which sports you are interested in, but just about all of them have individual sign-ups for those looking to get on a team. as a matter of fact, individual softball sign-ups are THIS saturday at spin. there will likely be an unsually large number of teams looking for players as this is the 1st year of a major rule change that impacts most teams (i can give you the specifics if you want to PM me).

our basketball season is almost over, but if you decide to play next year they will place you on a team.

beach volleyball will begin in a few months, watch for individual sign-ups for that as well.

we've also added a spring/summer football league, in addition to fall footbal - watch for summer sign-ups in a few months.

heck, we even have dodge ball and badminton leagues you can sign up for. :-)

no other u.s. city can match chicago for organized gay sports!!

Thanks for the info Chiathlete. I may be looking for a soccer or basketball team this fall when I move up there.

Cool, I think you'll be happy with both. I didn't list soccer previously, only because I am not a soccer player, but the soccer league has really taken off since it started a few years back.

Our basketball league continues to grow every year (I'm proud to say I'm one of the founding members when we started league play in the late 80's). For the longest time we had just one skill level (competitive), but now have 3 skill levels - recreational, intermediate and competitive. Also, as you may know, we host the nation's oldest and largest gay basketball tournament every year.
