I'm sure there are other Tracey fans here so I wanted to give everyone a heads up about her new show. I'll have to add Showtime back to my digital cable service. I'm looking forward to seeing it. I'm @ work still so I haven't had time to look @ the trailer but I'm sure they'll be hysterical since she'll be dealing w/ topics/personas related to our crazy nation.
TheOtherFSU
I've always loved her. She's hilarious and some of her past characters have been some of the funniest ever created on TV. I'll have to watch.
SCTrojan
Just a heads up that Tracey's debut show is tonight.

I had such high hopes for Tracey's new series, but it's just not funny. I've watched both episodes and I think there has been one (total) funny moment. Most of this same humor has been done before and done a lot. It just doesn't seem original at all, which is surprising for Tracey. In fact, the whole thing seems stale... as though it was all written and performed like 3 years ago and Showtime held it off the air for some reason. sad.gif

I saw part of the first episode and I agree that it was disappointing. It was quantity (lots of characters) over quality (the characters themselves weren't all that interesting, nor were the sketches all that funny).

I wish she would bring back some of the characters from the original Tracey Ullman Show--like Francesca, her gay dad, David, and William (Dan Castellaneta and Sam McMurray). ("I Hate Paris", the sketch where William sings "Stand By Your Man" is hilarious). Her autobiographical stage show, Tracey Ullman: Live and Exposed, was also excellent.

I haven't seen any of her new show but I am glad to see others not liking it. She was always one of those people that critics and others made me feel I was supposed to love but frankly I just never got it. I used to watch her old FOX show mostly for the Simpsons shorts. Some of the bits were funny but mostly because of her supporting players IMO. I've just never really thought she was funny and so many of her characters seemed the same to me.

I did see one skit from this new show over on the Best Week Ever site with Tracey playing Lindsay Lohan's mom and she's hanging out with other celebrity mothers. A great idea for a skit but it just went nowhere.

I agree w/ the overall consensus here, her show has had a few funny moments here & there, but for the most part a bit disappointing. Oh, well....

I must be the only one who thinks that it's pretty good. The Indian pharmacist and her musical numbers, Ariana Huffington, Renee Zellweger and her "chronic narcissistic squint". laugh.gif Some of it is hilarious...

Although, I do miss Ruby Romaine (?) from her old sketch show...that character is awesome!

Lindsay Lohan's Mom

Padma Perkish

(Don't play any of these at work with the sound on)

Tracey has done much funnier stuff but it's atleast better than Carpoolers.

High praise indeed. tongue.gif

The only thing Carpoolers is funnier than is Schindler's List...and even that's a close call.

As much as I think her show is so so, I think this interview is a riot. laugh.gif

God, I love Tracey Ullman. I actually think she's more subversive, and I wish she'd go further. I love her characters but what isn't so interesting anymore is famous people making commentary on other famous people. The celebrity age is riper than a bunch of brown bananas and people like Lohan's mom don't mean much to me. Lily Tomlin invented characters and that's part of why I love her. Tracey Ullman does that as well but this special in its choice to focus on mostly celebs isn't as fun. Tracey can do wrong for me though, and her appearance on the View was pretty funny.

I know I shouldn't inject politics into this thread but blast away at me if you like. I was quite surprised to find out Tracey Ullman is a huge Republican. This past weekend she was a "special guest" of Karl Rove's at the Washington Press Club dinner.
Joe in Philly
Being a guest at that dinner doesn't make one a huge Republican by itself. Perhaps Rove is just a fan. Besides, is she even a citizen of the US? If she's not, who cares what she is? She's got very little influence.
TC
Agree about her influence or lack therof. She is an American citizen and definitely is a Republican -- she's spoken of her conservatism quite a bit. She just seems the most unlikely of Republicans though.
TheOtherFSU
I began to wonder about her political beliefs this season thanks to her new show. Her bits on Arianna Huffington and Larry David's wife made me wonder why she was picking them in particular and why she felt the need to go after them. It makes sense now. This new show of hers was incredibly bad.

I absolutely loved Tracey Ullman on HBO.

HBO is the only premium channel that I get, so I was disappointed to learn that the new show was on Showtime.

I hope the show and any new characters are just as good as the HBO show and characters.

Based on the previous posts, I may not be missing much.

I recently got the DVD of Tracy Ullman - Live and Exposed which is a must-see for Tracy fans. It's an autobiographical stage show that she did for HBO that shows off her entire arsenal of talent.
