Full Version: The Excellence of WVU Athletics

While there is little doubt University of Florida is the pinnacle of college basketball, I thought I would touch base on the rise of my beloved MountainEERS in college athletics.

While I am certainly someone who is humble about the good fortunes that's been bestowed on WVU, allow me to take a moment to celebrate WVU's success over the last 3-4 years in football, basketball, and other sports.

Behind Florida, only a couple of schools like Texas and Ohio State have the same argument as WVU for being one of the top 5 football/basketball schools in America.

In the last 3 years of football, WVU has won two BCS bowl games and one NYD bowl games. Only LSU, Texas, Georgia, and USC have won 2 BCS bowl games since 2000.

In the last 4 years, WVU has made it to the Sweet 16 3 of those years. In 2004, WVU made the elite 8. and was a missed shot6 away from the final 4 in OT. In 2005, WVU made the sweet 16 and was a buzzer beater away from the elite 8. In 2006, WVU was NIT champs with a very young team. In 2007, WVU is back in the esweet 16,

While I have focused on men's basketball and football above, let's take a moment to acknowlege other top WVU sports

WVU women's basketball- top 20 this year & NCAA tourney 3 of the last 4 years.

WVU women's soccer- Big East champs and top 15 program since 2002

WVU men's soccer - top 10 team in last 2 seasons

WVU wrestling- top 20 program

WVU gymnastics- top 20 program

WVU's cross country- top 10 finish this year

WVU's rifle program- 14 national championships and one of the top programs in America.

WVU's baseball program- usually top half of the Big East.

WVU's women's swimming- One of the top BE programs.

Gee. Another thread about West Virginia and/or the Big East. Just what we all needed.

Is this the Xavier thread? tongue.gif

Maybe each poster should start their own personal weight gain and loss thread. Cough Cough That seems to be a ratings smash. Just so there is active participation, The winner of the contest could supplied with Snickers or Oreos.

PS

Just joking, big fella. Opps, my bad, I mean ex big fella.

I think you need to look up the word "humble" in a dictionary... tongue.gif

At least there's only one thread about weight loss instead of 800. And the subject of weight loss doesn't seem to antagonize anyone. Imagine that.

It's not surprising that you're borrowing from the posting playbook of your "missing" "friend." Gee, wonder what happened to him? Does anyone miss him?
Frank Bruno
I have an even better idea, Derby: why don't we just send PMs to each other that contain name-calling insults based on gay stereotypes? That sounds like a real good way to get your point across.
Maddog
It's actually quite cute. My nephew is the same way with stats and North Carolina. He LOVES that school. You can ask him anything about the history of the Tarheels (especially basketball) and he knows it. Rattles off stats like a computer...lol. He swears he's going to go NC when he graduates High School but that's still 6 years away so we'll see.

"Does anyone miss him?"

He is probably missesd as much as you miss all the pounds you've lost in your courageous battle.

Seriously,

Why the personal agenda? I get you were hurt from many years ago from receiving the brunt of the free for all that went down. Time for you to move on. It looks like you found a new lease on life and maybe the gym. Good for you.

Also, Just so you know, I don't think me or anyone is interested in replacing you as the board "mascot". lol

Losing weight is hardly courageous. But then, why would you even have brought that up? Oh, yeah. It's because that's what you and your "friend" do. It's your modus operandi. He finally went too far and got himself banned, and NO ONE misses him.

You mean your "friend's" personal attacks on many people, which continued for a good long time, and which you continue in his fine tradition in multiple duplicate threads?

As for being hurt, not at all. Don't give yourself, or him, any undue credit.

Time for you to take your own advice, son.

You are a couple unicorns short of allowing you to play the victim act.

I don't pretend to the world is full of rainbows, lattes, and techno dance music.

As a scandalous as it might sound to some, not all gay people have to like each other.

Got it, gramps? lol

Does your "friend" tell you how to reply or do you think of these remarks all by yourself? Anyway, I'm done. I've said my piece.

In shooting for accuracy, it's "peace", not "piece".

Carry on.

No, it's not--it's piece. With your apparently limited grasp of the language, it might be good idea to make sure you're right before playing the grammar game. I guess someone missed remedial English at WfVU.

This phrase is simialr to:

"speak now or forever hold your peace".

This is the same thing. Yes, the phrase refers to speaking your opinion but not a piece of your thoughts, your entire thoughts, until you are at peace with the situation.
boomer400
It's not the same thing. Maybe you should take the night off.

http://www.wsu.edu/~brians/errors/hold.html

Some folks imagine that since these expressions are opposites, the last word in each should be the same; but in fact they are unrelated expressions. The first means “maintain your silence,” and the other means literally “speak aloud a piece of writing” but is used to express the idea of making a statement.

Wait a second...so WVDerby saying to me on another thread, "This is like you telling me not to be jealous of you because you are a bottom" wasn't just an attempt to push my buttons so that I could help get him past his gay anger, with a goal of us eventually being boyfriends? Why am I always the last to know these things? sad.gif
And why do I always go for the tortured bad boys? wub.gif Good thing I have therapy today. cool.gif

Okay. I'm over it. Have a great weekend folks! biggrin.gif

OK, I'm tossing this topic off a little ways but I gots a question that maybe you WV folk can answer. It's been bugging the daylights out of me after driving through the state on the way back from Charlotte today.

Rather trivial....Can anyone tell me why every single time I enter a county on the highway in WV, there's a note below it that says "Certified Business District"? I mean, is there Certified counties and uncertified ones that I didn't see somehow? Is there a point to it all.

Utterly silly question, perhaps. Yet if you drive over six hundred miles in a day it gives you plenty of time to think and the mind does wander.

WV isn't the only state to have those districts

I've seen them in other states, primarily southern

I guess it's something about local governments giving tax breaks for development or something along those lines

What do baseball updates have to do with college football? Maybe this should be moved to "Other Sports," it could actually be a decent thread over there.

Here is a better idea for you and others who love to complain over my threads. Why don't you actually post something on college football and contribute to the college football section this way the couple of WVU posts I post in won't dominate the discussion.

I'm guessing it's because most of us here realize that posting multiple threads on the same subject might come off a little annoying and a bit sad. Or it could be that we gays don't know as much about college football as you do Gym. Probaby one or the other.

Posting baseball statistics contributes to a college football discussion? blink.gif

The "ignore" feature works pretty well. You don't see anything that person's written at all. Unless someone else (coughMaddogcoughgolfer24cough) quotes from the posts of the one you're ignoring. tongue.gif
Maddog
LOL I didn't know that feature existed. How cool. But I can't ignore Derby or Gym. How else could I keep up with WVU? T-Daddy doesn't keep up with his obligation on one WVU thread per day. biggrin.gif
theodoresdaddy
sorry Maddog, I've been fighting a cold this week

I promise to have my WVU thread count back up next week
