wow, not many fearless forecasters.
JIP, sincere question - how will the Phils be better than last year? The pitching looks worse, all I can see that will be a plus over '07 is 6 more weeks of Utley.

I don't know that they'll be very much better. I don't think the Mets are all that great, though.

Among all the pros picking the races this season, who did best? Why, it was Baseball Prospectus and their PECOTA system -- you know, "stat geeks." They were ridiculed by many for projecting 88 wins for Tampa Bay.
http://vegaswatch.net/2008/09/evaluating-a...tions-2008.htmlWho did worst? ESPN morons Steve Phillips and Buster Olney.

I read that they projected 80 wins for the Phillies. Is that true?

No, as you could've learned by following the links. (but then you would've had to read some of what you blindly criticize, and we can't have that.)

"Blind criticism" is an apt phrase considering that I actually clicked on a link and got only a short piece of an article followed by "The rest of this article is restricted to Baseball Prospectus Subscribers." And I have much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much better ways of spending money.
