This is shaping up to be a painful year for the South Side...
They showed a lot of grit coming back from a 5 run deficit yesterday, but still ended up losing their opener to Cleveland 10-8, aided in part by a questionable call at the plate in the late innings....
Buehrle got spanked with 7 runs in less than 2 innings...If he's our #1 starter, we are in DEEP trouble!
I think we'll be fine offensively and on defense with the addition of Cabrera and Swisher up the middle...
Plus Swisher is a little cutie...
When I was MUCH younger, I had the hots for Swisher's dad, Steve when he played with the cubs....
I am getting SO old.... tongue.gif
WhiteSoxFan
The first game was kinda ugly... bad calls... and Dotel did not look worth all the money we've paid for him, but the past two have gotten better.

Realistically, I see us in third place behind the Tigers and Indians, but I'm optimistic and am holding out hope for at least the wild card. I don't think anything could be as bad as last year...
kevin57
After a few days to evaluate the team, it looks like it will boil down to pitching, starting pitching particularly. The hitting and defense look to be decent, and relief pitching seems to have improved over last year (could it have been any worse ohmy.gif ). I'm concerned about Contreras...have been for a while. He's too old to be effective, I fear.
MiamiSpartan
FIRST PLACE!! laugh.gif

Pitching hasn't been great, but it's been enuf to win...

Money well spent for Detroit... biggrin.gif

Great game tonight!

Who would have thought that six games into the season, we'd be 4 ahead of the Tigers?

I am loving life right now!! I'm sure things will even out at season's end, and the tiggers will up around the top, but for now....

Nice performance on all fronts last night! GO SOX!!
MiamiSpartan
Great seeing Crede healthy with a Grand Slam in the Sox win today!
Crew Chief
He's kinda cute, too, isn't he? tongue.gif
WhiteSoxFan
Another nice one today. Maybe Gavin Floyd is beginning to show why he was a first round draft pick and why we gave up Freddy Garcia to get him.
MiamiSpartan
Took a no hitter into the 8th inning...Gawd, I hope he turns out to be the quality starter that we are desperate for....
MiamiSpartan
TWO grannies by Konerko and Crede and Vazquez pitches a shutout against the tiggers...
Gawd, I wish we could play them and their $100 million payroll every day!!

And the Marlins are in first place without Cabrera and Willis....looks like the timing of THAT trade was perfect!!
Chill-Trick
Does Ozzie realize he's an ass**** ignorant pick, or does he know and just doesn't care?
MiamiSpartan
He's about ready to get himself out of a job if he's not careful...(and here's one Sox fan hoping it happens)...You don't call out your own boss on TV and expect to stay around too much longer. Thanks for the WS trophy in 05, but you have worn out your welcome...
George Twins fan
Does he ever think anything that he DOESN'T say? The guy just has diarrhea of the mouth.
MiamiSpartan
Well,....it might have worked...
The Sox are unbeaten, since Ozzie's rant....and the team is hitting again...
MiamiSpartan
The Sox went 7-0 on their recent homestand, and now have a 6.5 game lead on Minnesota. Nice to see the bats are finally coming alive. Cutie Nick Swisher is finally starting to pay dividends, too....
Homered from both sides of the plate today...
Looks like it could be a very fun summer on the South Side AND the North Side this year!
kevin57
Is Ozzie not politically correct? Yes.

Does he rant and rave? Obviously.

Is he sometimes more bark than bite? Sadly, true.

But the Sox do well when Ozzie is let be Ozzie. Last year, when he was muted, they did horribly. He's got to be himself, just like all of us, gentlemen.

You know, in the day every manager was like Ozzie. In fact, much worse in terms of language and attitude.
MiamiSpartan
Think it's time for another rant from Ozzie....Pitching is doing well, but the hitting has gone south again....How do you lose 2 of 3 to the Rockies at home???
MiamiSpartan
Things are definately looking up on the South Side! After the sweep at the hands of the cubs at Wrigley, they have certainly turned it around, sweeping the cubs at the cell, and now with back-to-back 10th inning walk-off HR wins against Cleveland....
shoeless james
It's funny -- I just joined up here and was browsing the posts and found this one, where the original poster said that it was shaping up to be a bad year for the Sox. Funny. They've still got weak spots (a sometimes anemic offense, a mercurial manager...) but i think they have the best record in baseball these days. Amazing. No one was expecting this, were they? At least not this year.
MetsfanChi
My sugar mom/gf/best friend is a huge Sox fan and I think I've adopted them as my AL team. We were at the Sunday game(loss., but a good game) and Tuesdays game(win). I don't mind Comiskey, but I do adore Wrigley.

AND I GOT TO SEE MY BASEBALL IDOL HIT HIS 2000 HIT!. GO THOME!
MiamiSpartan
I'm sure I speak for all Sox fans when I say we all welcome you with open.........arms. tongue.gif

3 cub fans have been charged with beating a White Sox fan so badly that he has lost his right eye at...get this....a children's "Sesame Street" themed 2 year old's party!

um....guys.....it's just baseball.... blink.gif
shoeless james
Anyone think it'll make much of a difference the Sox getting Ken Griffey Jr.? He is a future hall of famer, but that's based on what he has done up until about five or six years ago -- I mean, he's a .245 hitter this year, and he can't cover as much ground today as he did in the past. It's an interesting move, but I don't know how much it really will help.

MiamiSpartan
Well, we didn't give up all that much to get him, and with Paulie being out of the picture for most of the year, at least it gives us another bat in the middle of the lineup....Not too upset with it at this point....
MiamiSpartan
Season over. Dissapointing end to a fairly successful season...the team just seamed to play uninspired baseball, and I have to think that Ozzie's days are numbered.....
Several players will be playing their last games in pinstripes...
Konerko, Griffey, most of the pitching staff, etc...
Joe in Philly
Your team is a half-game out and the Twins are being routed by Kansas City, which would keep the White Sox within a half-game even if they can't rally in their game, and you're giving up? For shame.
MiamiSpartan
They are playing SO poorly right now, when they need to be hot....there is no way they can pull this thing out.

Joe,

We stink. The fact that we're even NEAR first place is an anomoly, IMHO.

I was at last night's game. That 5th inning bullpen fiasco was without a doubt the WORST bullpen performance I have ever seen in baseball. At any level. I still cannot believe what happened in that inning.

I SO wish Ozzie would get his ass fired, because I don't think he's a good manager. I never have, the 2005 World Series title notwithstanding. (A paper bag could have managed that team that year.)

And Kenny Williams? Overrated. Besides, he took a world champion team and tore it apart the following year and never has rebuilt it properly.
Joe in Philly
Awwww, come on! You gotta have at least some faith!

One: It's a half-game lead -- and even after tonight's results it's still only a half-game.
Two: Even if a paper bag could've managed the 2005 team, they still won! What I wouldn't give to have one of my teams win a championship in recent years. And plenty of talented teams that a paper bag seemingly could've managed ended up losing.

Sure, your TV announcers are annoying, which makes me want to root against the White Sox. smile.gif But Jim Thome was nothing but a class act when he was a Phil, so if he gets into the playoffs I wouldn't be unhappy. Come on. Have faith.
fantomas
Could it be an El series? Funny that no one is writing on a thread devoted to the other Chicago team, the Cursed Ones who play in that stadium on Addison and Clark!
MiamiSpartan
Well, the Sox had a great chance yesterday to be in a MUCH better position today, but once again, their pitching let them down..... mad.gif

Did you happen to catch ESPN last night, Joe? They were blistering Ozzie, as were other sports news outlets. For the first time since I can remember, their criticism went beyond typical critique of a manager's decision in a particular situation. It was an overall blasting of Ozzie in several respects.

This team is toast. Another gift was handed to them yesterday with the Royals' victory, and the Sox decide to decline the gift with another embarrassing loss. Serves them right.

Fantomas, I'd vote for McCain or even BUSH before I'd root for the Cubs!!! tongue.gif

...and the Sox live to see another day...
Ramirez has been clutch all season....4th Grand Slam of the year came at a good time...
Tomorrow night for the playoff game vs the Twins at the Cell....

And I was there, MS! I took my father, and we had Premium Club Level box seats. Awesome. Oh, and I sat behind some hottie!!! He was a rabid Sox fan and smokin' hot. But straight. His girl friend was with him. sad.gif

Pix please!!! smile.gif
Sounds like a blast. My sister was there in standing room only seats....She said she would not have missed it for the world!

I WANNA MOVE HOME!!!! sad.gif
Crew Chief
I actually took a picture of him (w/ my camera phone) and his friend, the latter of whom was also with his girl friend. Let me see if I can dig that up. Don't know if the lighting was good enough, though.
Crew Chief
OK, here's the pic. He's the one on the right w/ the cap on.

He would frequently turn around to me and we'd swap game strategies. He has such a cute smile and nice brown eyes. Nice hands, too (when he took his Under Armour gloves off--it wasn't THAT cool out!). biggrin.gif
MiamiSpartan
He's a cutie alright!!

Isn't he, though? And he's a RABID Sox fan. You should have seen him go nuts every time something went right for the Sox that night. I SO wanted to just grab him and plant a wet one on him. tongue.gif

Reminds me of when we had season tix for Panther's hockey. The guy whose seats were behind us was this BIG musclebear who.was.hung.!!!!
He loved to hug whenever they scored. tongue.gif
MetsfanChi
Well, the only adopted team I've taken to in Chicago bowed out tonight and I was there to see it unfold. There were quite a few ignorant fans there tonight, but what can ya do?

Here's to next season.
Crew Chief
So you adopted the White Sox, bud? Cool! Great choice.

I hereby offer to console you, as I, a lifelong White Sox fan, am saddened even more so than you are. I had to get my mind off it anyway, so I had a friend come over and @#$% me until I forgot. biggrin.gif

Ohhhhh, I'm so damn perverted (and temporarily satisfied). huh.gif

Now how did YOU know he was hung? Did you turn around and unzip him or something? ohmy.gif
