I really had to force myself to watch that show because I am a dog lover supreme. The show was really sad in the beginning because I didn't know that Oprah's dog Sophie died last month. Her other dog choked to death last year and her beloved Sophie passed away at 13 last month. They did a tribute at the beginning of the show and it was really sad. The show was just absolutely horrific. I can't believe these people are getting away with this crap!!!! Lisa Ling did the expose with a guy from Main Line Animal Rescue. I love Lisa Ling. The worst thing in my opinion that ever happened to the View was her leaving. She's just wonderful. But my god those poor dogs and the conditions that they live in are just unimaginable. The poor females spend their lives breeding dogs. All the poor things do is reproduce, and so many of the dogs never experience human affection. I cried so much during this show. They showed a beautiful lab that spent his entire life walking on wire that he didn't even know how to walk on solid ground. It was totally foreign to him.

It was really hard to watch, but important to watch. One of my annual charity donations is to the American Kennel Club but I've got to break open the check book and make a donation to Main Line Kennel Club. Anyone who is a dog lover cannot sit back and allow this to take place. I definitely echo Bob Barker in having pets spayed or neutered because over 1 million dogs and cats are euthanized each year. There was a segment on the show where they showed an animal shelter euthanizing a number of dogs one day (tears again). Ugh. I was a bumbling mess during this show but I hope this brings more attention to people who should get their dogs from Animal Rescue Shelters, and you don't always have to get a puppy. The most touching part of the show was when someone sent Oprah a Christmas card to Oprah saying that she rescued an old and blind dog in her honor. The Christmas card was written from the dog's perspective and about how the dog knew that it would be the cute puppy that would be adopted but how the buyer wanted the blind dog. Ugh...Niagra Falls yall!!!! Usually my boyfriend laughs at me when I cry over stuff but he knows how I feel about dogs and was so great.

My partner & I had a kitty (he was no more than 4 months old) come to our home about 2 years ago. It looked lost & seemed to be looking for a home (he had no ID on him) . After a couple of days the kitty disappeared. We looked everywhere for him. Even posted signs in the neighborhood cuz we had taken pix of him. I also decided to go to the LA county animal shelter that picks up stray animals in our area. I went twice in 2 days (as the animal shelter instructed me). The 1st time was hard. The animals were fine, but they certainly looked like they had sad faces & were hoping for someone, anyone to adopt them. The 2nd time I went, I broke into tears once I left. Partly because we never found the kitty, but mostly because of the other animals that needed a home. I had to call my bf to calm down. So I can imagine watching that show.

...We now have another cat that is the sweetest thing in the world. He's not the aloof type of cat--he's VERY affectionate & wants our attention anytime he can get it. biggrin.gif

One of the hardest shows I have EVER watched. Oprah and her teary response to the memorial of her dog set the tone early. I was misty eyed more than once. Awful...I couldn't believe the conditions at puppy mills. DO NOT buy pets from pet stores!!!!

Its sad because I feel so bad for the pets in the pet store because of what they have been through and go through everyday, yet I don't want to support the mills... I wish there was something else I could do to help out.

My family has adopted from the local SPCA and I plan on getting my own dog soon and will probably go back to adopt one of those. I also check the give-away section of the paper for any stories that might touch my heart.

I missed the special but I doubt I would have been able to watch the whole thing anyway...
