The Penguins stay alive in amazing fashion. Tie the game with 35 seconds left, then win it in the third overtime.

It serves you right for posting such a large picture and throwing the whole thread out of whack. tongue.gif

Nooooo!!!! sad.gif mad.gif This is torture!!
Marc
Despite Detroit's domination much of the time, it was still a good game; Fleury made some amazing saves, and then of course the drama of a tying goal by Pittsburgh just before the end of reg time. The Penguins are starting to make this series interesting after all, although I think the Wings will still win the Cup.

Desperate teams do desperate things when they have to, but opportunity missed last night for the Wings for sure.....as Marc said, now it begins to get REALLY interesting. Detroit gets another opportunity, but in Pittsburgh. Meanwhile, I read where talks and contracts are underway to keep Babs in Detroit for awhile. But the contract won't be signed until the end of the season, as he doesn't want any distractions at the moment. Said he is very comfortable there and so is his family. Says he is not going anywhere.

A double-minor was called on Detroit's Jiri Hudler for high-sticking. That means, with that amount of power play time, having already failed on two PP opportunities in the overtimes, Pittsburgh was really tempting fate. I think had they not scored then, Detroit surely would've won it eventually. So, essentially...

Pittsburgh only had four minutes to save their world.

If I wasn't laughing so hard I would have to hit you upside the head with a 5 day old raw octopus.

I watched the game for five periods but then had to go to bed since I had to get up early this morning. So, I missed the exciting finish in the third OT. I just saw the winning goal on the video clip linked on this site. I was surprised when I heard Gonchar's name in the video clip, because I thought he was out of the game due to injury. I guess desperate times call for desperate measures.

I stuck hard and fast to my one OT rule. Ain't worth having to get up early not knowing if you'll ever get to bed that night.

Though I suppose not having a real rooting interest doesn't help either.

It will be interesting to see how the legs on both teams are tonight for game 6 in Pittsburgh. Another opportunity for the Wings to clinch the Cup....

LET'S GO PENS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Joe in Philly
Detroit in 6...say, that was what I predicted. Not to brag or anything. laugh.gif The Pens made it close at the end, but ultimately the better team won.

Now the Pens have to figure out what to do next year. The deals to get Hossa, among others, were made to win this year. Now they didn't, and Hossa is a free agent. The salary cap may well keep him from returning to Pittsburgh, or if they sign him they'll lose someone else.

Phew! What a game! Talk about heart-attack hockey!! Hurray!!!
Way to go Red Wings!!!!!!
Marc
Four Stanley Cups in the past eleven years...no wonder Detroit is called Hockeytown! Congrats to your team, Eddie.

Thank you Marc! That is quite an accomplishment and hats off to Pittsburgh as well! I'm way behind on my sleep but it was worth it.

Congratulations eddie, and way to go Coach Babcock. Your old team ( Chiefs) win the Memorial Cup, and your new team wins the STanley Cup. Whatta year!!!

Can't wait until next year....GO BLACKHAWKS!

Belated congrats, Eddie. The Red Wings were the superior team in the series. Still, you have to commend the Penguins on making a drastic turnaround from two years ago.

As to the free agency issue, you are correct, Joe. GM Ray Shero made a whole bunch of a win-now moves, which almost worked. Hossa is an unrestricted free agent; Ryan Malone, Pascal Dupuis, Adam Hall, Georges Laraque, Gary Roberts, Jarkko Ruutu and Brooks Orpik are UFAs as well. In addition, Marc-Andre Fleury is a restricted free agent. There's no way Shero can keep all of them. I just pray we keep a good core together and continue to make significant strides forward. cool.gif

According to the AP, the ratings for game 6 were twice what they were for the game 6 in 2006. The rating was a 4.4 overnight and a 7 share on NBC.
GO KINGS GO
The league go the dream match-up they wanted and the ratings to prove it.
