If the MWC expanded, it would become the 7th BCS conference. There is no way the BCS could exclude the MWC if Fresno State, Nevada, and Boise were added to the 9 exsisting schools of the MWC.

MWC

East

TCU
New Mexico
Colorado State
Air Force
BYU
Utah

West

Wyoming
Nevada
Boise
UNLV
San Deigo State
Fresno State

I don't think that becoming a BCS league is motivation enough for expansion. I have a feeling if the BCS feels like they've been backed into a corner by a league expanding to include BCS "contenders" they'll turn into Ripley from Aliens and put on one of those powerloaders and wipe out everything weak and vulnerable which would probably include the Big East as well.

I doubt the Big East would be considered anything close to the word weak.

3-0 in BCS bowl games since realignment.

Compare that to the Big 10 who is 2-3, ACC 0-3, and Big 12 who is 2-2.

Is there some sort of requirement to be a BCS conference?

The WAC originally had 16 teams in the mid 90's prior to its break up and formation of the MWC and they were never a BCS conference.

Also: I have a hard time believing that they'd split CSU and Wyoming into seperate divisons. They're barely over an hour's drive apart.

Here's the history:

It's basically a cartel.
