While I don't want to diminish Boise and Hawaii's accolades in the past two seasons, BYU is positioned to be a top 5-10 team in America this year. Not just because they play in a NON BCS Conference, but because they have the talent and skill to play with any team in America. ALso, BYU plays UCLA and another Pac-10 school. If BYU wins and based on it's storied tradition, voters will give BYU respect other non BCS teams don't garner because of BYU's football tradition. If whacky things happen in college football, an undefeated BYU team will play for the national championship over a 2 loss BCS conference champion.

Agreed that an undefeated BYU would make the championship game over a 2-loss team--but then again, it's very rare that a 2-loss team ends the regular season in the top 2. So a lot of things have to go right for them to have a shot.
