(as reprised from original HH thread)
So how's this for a plan? Next happy hour on Aug. 20 at 6 p.m. Green Lantern. Snacks will be served, raffle at 7 p.m.
Potluck at CPT Doom's, perhaps 9/14, the first Redskins Sunday game (at ATL)?
And ... PhillyFan will be in the area sometime this fall for an Eagles game and will be even more insufferable (if that's possible) if he doesn't get to join in our reindeer games. Date TBA, or as soon as the Eagles' ticket office gets it together.
How's that?
gj
p.s. Thanks again to everyone for making our first happy hour a bang-up success!

Not that you should plan around me, since I'm not in DC...

...but the only weekend dates in September I'm available are 9/6, 9/7 and 9/20. All the rest of the month I'll be at Phillies games, either here or in Pittsburgh.

I too will not be around the weekend of 9/14. If I weren't playing in a volleyball tournament in Boston, I would DEFINITELY be at Kings Dominion. I am soooo bitter that I am going to miss that day again this year. ugh! The August 20th thing is ON though. :-)

I was thinking the exact same thing -- that would make for a great "road trip" (relatively close, too)....depending upon the number of attendees perhaps we can rent a bus/van/limo for the day or some other "special" means of transportation to accomodate a large group of frolicing (and sober, of course

) Outsporters -- if not, I know there are a few of us that have SUV's (no, we don't need to restart that debate again here on this thread) which will accomodate a decent number of men (AND women, too, lest GatorJamie and BostonGirl think they are being excluded). wink

I happen to work with BHT, the group that benefits from the Kings Dominion event (and just to plug that event, remember, the park is ours from 8 PM to midnight, no lines, no waiting and no breeder children running around - we will have to deal with the homos' children running around, however). I know they are looking into getting transportation for groups, like the Different Drummers, who will be performing there (so GatorJamie may not need a ride) as well as those who don't have a car. We may be able to get a bus/van or something like that through BHT - I will check it out (although that might be too much togetherness for one weekend).
I also know one of the bartenders from the Lantern, so if you need more pull there mdswimmer, let me know.

Jul 18 2003, 04:26 PM
ok,
I spoke with one of the bartenders from the lantern.
We can definitely come in anytime and use the space. The upstairs bar is open at all times, however there is no one tending bar upstairs til later in the evening.
Wed nights there now feature all you can drink highballs for $8.00 - sorry no beer special on that one.
Just your basic rail drinks vodka /tonic , cape cod etc.....
also he suggested that saturday afternoons are great as well considering the bar is empty....
they would like to know how many people to expect.
If there is a succesful turn out for the first one, they might be convinced to open the bar(bring a bartender upstairs)for us.
Thoughts, etc.......
Cheers!

I was there, and MDSwimmer did a great job explaining who were and what type of get together we had in mind. Like he said, they more or less need an idea of how many people would be coming. But, the informality of the Green Lantern should be a comforting situation for most of the Outsporters that I met last week. ...Except for maybe, Gamecock, I suppose.

Ok, I promised I would chime in if the situation came about, so here we go. This is a general announcement for the general Outsports public. (don't I feel important now. he he he)
I had the opportunity to meet up with PhillyFan while in Vegas a couple of weeks ago, and I must tell all of you that he is actually a pretty laid back nice guy. I think that watching a football game with the guy would be a riot, so you should all look forward to having him attend a function with you.
Ok, PhillyFan there ya go man.
On a side note, I wish I could attend one of these functions, they sound like a great time.

I arrive in DC that afternoon (Wed) around 5, so I hope to get over there before 7 -- it may take some doing, can I assume you'll hang around past 7? I'd also be interested (if it's logistically possible) in going down (up?) to Camden Yards for Thursday night's O's/Tampa Bay game.

Hey Kids. August 20th happens to be day two of the Gay World Series which is happening in... yep, D.C. That means there may be more Outsporters, like me, around than usual. The Green Lantern, huh? Are out of towners welcome? I'll try to make it if we don't have a night game that night.

Sure wish I could attend these things, the first event sounded like lots of fun. How in the world did you guys go to work the next morning? But the 5-hour commute to the city is tough. I live south of DC, so if you are going to do the King's Dominion trip, it would be great if you could keep us informed so maybe we could meet up at the park. That sounds like a great time. Please feel free to email / aim me if you need any assistance in finding the lantern
I will be compiling a rough list of attendees on fri(7/25) before I head over there..
I would just like to give them a heads up as to what to expect.
And thanks for the reminder about all of the out of town folks in town for the week!

something wrong with drunk gamecocks, pittkid?

....I don't think any of us were surprised that you hung around JR's "til almost closing" though -- you kept us laughing and entertained all night long and if the rest of us didn't have to show up for work "bright and early" (with bloodshot eyes) the next morning we would have hung around to enjoy the rest of the night's "festivities" with ya.
Just make sure you're recovered in time for next month's "gala", though....btw, care to reveal what caused you to get thrown out of Paris, France casino or are you gonna leave that to our imagination? wink

That's why I'm thinking potluck on the weekend, but happy hour weeknights. Weekends are tough for me, but easier for others, so a mix seems like the best way to go, esp. if we watch football games together.
What do you guys think?
Curt, my NAAGA buddies tell me that there are no/few night games, so we expect to see your happy a$$ at happy hour. Besides, aren't you the guy that inspired that fantasy a few months back about cutting my grass and bringing me lemonade in my hammock, with Aubie watching over the fence? Dunumber44, I rarely turn down a chance to play some good volleyball. There are very few games the first few days of the softball tourney so let me know if you guys are playing. Beach, grass, indoors?? Just don't tell my softball coach.

Well,
Gamecock, by all means, it wasn't like a big tragic mess in Las Veags (got to go back though, way fun!). One of our troop was only 20, and the security guard got pissy about him standing with us at the bar. So being the loud frat boys we were, we made a scene, next thing we know, we were asked to leave. No surprise. Snotty French people....
Nice to know I was "entertaining". I'm not a heavy drinker, but since I was just starting my vacation, I decided to let loose. Much to the pity of my pocketbook.
Anyway, I'll be the next one. But I'll have to work the next day so I won't be a cocktail guzzler.
toodles all....
