Which Olympic sport is your favorite? Which ones do you care to watch?
For me:
My Favorite is Swimming. Especially the Relays, they are very exciting to watch.
I like to watch: Canoe/Kayak, Cycling, Diving, Equestrian, Gymnastics, Rowing, Swimming, Track & Field and Water Polo.
I'm very interested in Modern Pentathlon but it doesn't get much exposure.
My favorite events in T&F are the Pole Vault, Javelin, Hammer Throw, Discus, Shot Put, Decathlon, High Jump, Hurdles and the Relays.

I like diving (my sport), and swimming (my 2nd sport), gymnastics, & track & field, in that order. But I also like the Opening Ceremonies.
Has anyone reading this been to the Olympics? I went to the Los Angeles Olympics in 1984, with my eighty-eight year old grandfather in tow, to watch my cousin, his granddaughter, run the first Olympics Women's marathon. Julie Isphording DNF, due to a bone spur in her foot. But three years later, she came back to win the LA Marathon, and a Mercedes Benz.
An aside, I had two extra tickets to Track & Field one nite, which I sold to a street vendor. There were eight (8) final events scheduled that evening at the Los Angeles Coliseum. My partner at the time who was with me, and I knew that who ever bought the tickets would be seated next to us, because the tickets were sequential. It turns out an older man and wife couple sat down with us. They said they were just driving by on their way home from San Diego, and thought they would try to score some tickets. The gentleman told us, that his father took him to the 1932 Los Angeles Olympic Games, where he watched Buster Crabb swim. Buster had died a little over a year earlier, sadly, in April 23, 1983.
Buster was celebrated in part for participated in two Olympic Games: 1928, where he won the bronze medal for the 1,500 meter freestyle, and 1932, where he won the gold medal for the 400 meter freestyle. He then went on to become a movie star, including playing Tarzan, after Johnny Weissmuller retired.

I was at one of the track events at the LA Olympics--don't remember much, as I was born in 1983
We also went to a few events in Atlanta. Baseball consolation game, women's basketball final, and closing ceremony IIRC.
I end up watching almost everything. Diving is nice for obvious reasons, also track, swimming, and both men's and women's gymnastics. Honestly I like the winter Olympics more.

My favorites tend to be the ones you can't watch frequently- I love indoor men's and women's volleyball- I hate that the best players are on the beach now

I love watching all of the sports. I am an Olympiphile.
Even ping pong, badminton and fencing are cool! LOL

RELAYS - whether T&F or swimming. Nothing like team enthusiasm among normally big egos; and hot and sweaty or soaking wet hugging after the finish is just icing on the cake.

For the summer games, I too like the swimming events and diving events. Rowing, track and field, and gymnastics are also on the list. There are some sports that shouldn't be Olympic sports, such as basketball. Amateurs, not professionals, should be competing.
For the winter games, I like all the speed-skating, slalom and all other skiing events, as well as ice hockey.
Growing up, I spent my summers in Lake Placid, host of the 1932 and 1980 Winter Games. In 1976, my Dad took us to the Montreal Games. I remember seeing Dwight Stone win the Decathlon. I still have mementoes, such as a sweater with the Olympic logo.
After the 1980 Winter Games, several players from the famous US Ice Hockey team returned to LP for a tennis tournament. I remember seeing Mike Eruzioni (sp?) and Jim Craig. My younger brother had an autographed poster of the team. Don't know if he still has it. I also remember as a budding gay teen being mesmerized by their hockey butts and thighs in the tennis shorts popular at the time. Come to think of it, may be that's the reason I like speed-skating!

You X-country ski?
I took up classic this winter as something to break the boring December-January x-training months. Still can't say I am any good, though. I kinda like the hills, at this point. My technical short comings seem to be minimized and the good cardio base kicks in somewhat. Going down them is another story, though.

Just saw my two favorite 800m runners anchor a win for USA team blue(?) (they don't wear the distinguishing red and blue jerseys that they will supposedly have next year) at the Penn Relays: ABSOLUTLELY AWESOME.
Darold Williamson was brilliant and powerful holding off a challenge from the blue team during the third leg, and gaving Jeremy Wariner what looked like a walk in the park (only Wariner could make that blistering run look so easy) on the anchor.
I dread to see what happens in Beijing if there is an inversion layer over a sunken arena for long- and middle-distance outdoor relay events like this one. Running against the Jamaican team this may be the best event of this kind we'll see this year. (And that first leg runner for Jamaica may be the most gorgeous thing we'll see as well

).
Still I'll be watching carefully in August.

Don't take this wrong but ... Bitch !!!
Love ya, Woody. I'm so jealous. I'm able to take a week off during the Winter Olympics. It's our slow season. But during the Summer, I'm not allowed to take time off. When I was fresh out of high school, not knowing what I wanted to do with my life. I lived for Olympic years, when I could live and breathe the games. I would stay up late and watch some Volleyball, then get up early and watch some preliminaries on the Today Show. Then watch some boxing on CNBC and then the other sports during primetime. I was such a geek. I have notebooks filled with all sorts of things Olympic. I've got each Olympics' Parade of Nations, Medal Tallies, the winner of each sport and event. Why I wasted so much time and effort in this, when there was already established authors doing the same thing. I also lived to get the Sports Illustrated Olympic Previews, as well as, the TV Guide Olympic Previews.
This will be my first Olympics as a Outsports member. I've been reading old posts from the Torino games. You all are very intuitive and funny. I can't wait to share my thoughts with you all.

The US Olympic mens wrestling team failed to qualify the 60kg weight class that has seen some of americas best on the mat. These are sad times in a sport that i love, but its all Good th Greco Roman team needs to qualify 2 weights to have a chance at placing a wrestler in the top spot. Can weight to see the action although i will be staying up till 4am or getting up at 3am to watch the matches that NBC will show. I think they need to go back to PPV and have the package where i can get th events i want to see not to be an ass, but The mens and womens Horse back riding ( i cant spell Equestrian) is not really on my top 3 and would much rather see the action on the mat win or lose.
