Who looks like VP material?

As much as I think that an Obama/Edwards ticket is the most attractive (both physically & politically), I think that they would be easily targeted and "labeled" by the GOP as "two liberals peas in a pod." Obama may need to pick some who's @ least a Centrist Demo (and probably from the South) to attract swing voters.

Patty Murray? What?
He has to go with someone who has military or national security experience. IMO it's down to Sam Nunn and Jim Webb. Or Hillary if they are feeling saucy and the polls show Clinton supporters moving to McCain.
Bill Richardson tends to shoot from the mouth and has a history of ass-grabbing. Bob Casey is interesting, but Ted Strickland would be a better option for midwestern appeal with pro-life cred. John Edwards has ruled out a VP slot. And Chuck Hagel is a Republican. Talk about getting saucy.

You'll have to forgive me Sportinlife, but not being American, I only recognize John Edwards and Bill Richardson. I have no idea who the other three are (names, please!) But based on what I know, I think Edwards would be a good running mate for Obama. (gasp!) You mean Clinton wouldn't be considered VP material

Obviously I'm no good at using this software to set up poles.
But the choices are supposed to be (in order from top to bottom) Chuck Hagel, Patty Murray, Bill Richardson, John Edwards and Bob Casey.
These are just the ones I've heard mentioned most. My favorite, John Edwards, has obviously taken himself out of the running - or so he says. Though I wouldn't be surprised if he could be imposed upon for the good of the country if Obama really wanted him. He seems confident he would be a part of Obama's team in the White House. My guess is attorney general, which I've said before would be better than having him as VP - a relatively ceremonial position until the president is incapacitated.
I didn't mention Hillary Clinton because I don't think anyone seriously believes that bridge hasn't been burned. But I certainly wouldn't rule out her being in the cabinet (except I don't think she would settle for that) or much better still: on the Supreme Court. I could see her matching wits with Roberts and totally embarassing Scalia and Thomas with legal arguements that show them for the pseudo-original intent mechanical partisans they really are.
The necessity for a Cheney-like emminence gris with an actual military background could be neutralized by the support of ex-military higher-ups that have been unceremoniously booted out by Bushites.

I am going to stick with what Lawrence O ' Donnel of MSNBC has said, and he said that Obama is going to pick ( Hillary supporter) Gen. Wesley Clark as his running mate. So going to see if this turns out to be true. Richardson would be excellent, but Clark has the military background Obama may require.

And Clark is Centrist & takes no bs from anyone.

The problem is using the pictures with the choices, especially because of the size of some of them.

Tried to fix that but got thrown into a loop that kept showing the thread without an edit box. Any ideas?

The only thing I can think of is that maybe polls can't be edited once they're posted.

I just read a very interesting headline off msnbc.com, and you get one guess who, according to close friends is really warming up to the idea of Hillary being Obamas' V.P. If you said Bill Clinton, you WIN! One reason is that he sees that position for her as a great platform for her to run again in 2012....

I needed that. Cleared my sinuses.
I think Barroness Mag Thatcher is available too. And she's even still alive. Though she may be waiting for Gordon Brown to stumble a bit more.

Imagine her and Eva reminiscing about that little dust-up in the Falklands/Malvinas over tea.
On a more serious note, I think Obama could make a big mistake trying to "fill the gaps" with a traditional selection for VP.
His best bet is to stay close to home, so to speak, and pick someone who would carry out his policies.
That might also be the surest defense against harm coming to him personally. My personal favorite is still Edwards, though he has supposedly ruled himself out and seems to be angling for that AG position he merits.

I agree on the military/national security issue, but I am with hockeytom and think it will be General Clark. He is not seen as a liberal, has the military experience to go toe-to-toe with McCain and, quite frankly, is a white man. Although I firmly believe enough of this country is willing to vote for an African-American, I don't think pairing him with a woman is a good idea - Clinton or any other woman. The country is only willing to change
so much and I don't think it's a good idea to push the issue.
