Anyone interested in setting up an Outsports Fantasy Baseball league?
I played fantasy football for the first time this season and loved it. However, I have no idea about setting up a baseball league and I certainly don't know the ins and outs of being a commissioner.
Anyone interested please post here!

definitely intersted in a fantasy baseball league..was in a league last year sponsored by Wall Street sports...was free & players on each team were randomly drafted by the league commissoner...was fun watching your players all season long & constanty getting proposals for trades from other team managers...

Well, WJock, it doesn't look like there's a whole lot of interest in setting up an Outsports Fantasy Baseball League. I would really like to do this, but there's just not enough responses to consider at this point.
Where's all the Outsports baseball fans out there?

Hey bill
I'm interested, but need more details. Would we have a draft? Do you draft individual pitchers or entire staffs. Is it something that would have to be monitored daily?

I'm game, billsf, but I also don't know how to run a fantasy league. Think there are there any on-line we could set-up as a group?

We had one last year on ESPN.com, but you had to set your lineup daily to be competitive. Too time consuming.

I was in that ESPN one with George and others last year... and agree that a weekly one would be better. Changing your line-up every day is a little much.

Well, like I said - I don't know anything about setting up a Fantasy Baseball League. Can anyone else out there help us out, whether you want to play or not?????
I'll try and look at CBS Sportsline this weekend. It seemed to work really well for Fantasy Football.

I think that CBS sportsline is the best for fantasy.
I think that their baseball stuff will be available sometime next week to take a look at.
They have public leagues, where you follow their rules, or private commissioner leagues where you can set up your own rules.
The only draw back to public CBS sportsline leagues, is there are certain states (like NJ) where you are not eligible for cash prizes. However, there are no stipulations for private leagues.
They Offer ROTO and Head to Head scoring systems depending on your preference.
Head to Head is usually weekly line up changes.

Yahoo typically has some leagues that you can set up that are faily easy to maintain...there are of course the daily lineup change leagues....and they have leagues that you can play head to head where you set a line up for the week, and let it ride against whomever you are matched up with that week.

I just talked to a co-worker who has played Fantasy Baseball on CBS Sportsline. There is an upfront draft and you only have to make weekly line-up changes, if necessary. Otherwise it works much like Fantasy Football, adds/drops, etc.
I'll look into it this weekend. So, if you want to come on board, let me know now. I'll take a shot at being the commissioner... eek!

Go for it billsf! Somebody needs to take the bull by the horns.
I found a
link to last years group for ESPN Baseball Challenge. Looks like gp43 set it up (gp is also the commish for VGM, the NBA fantasy game). And it looks like I came second in the first half of the season (good for me!).
If you can figure out how the CBS Sportsline game works and set up a league for us, that entitles you to be the Outsports Commissioner of Fantasy Baseball.

I would be interested in joining as well. I liked the ESPN game from last year, but it was a pain changing the lineup every day. Once a week is fine.

Well, I checked out CBS Sportsline over my lunch hour. It doesn't have a selection for Fantasy Baseball yet. I assume it's just not being offered yet. I'll let everyone know when it's available.
Twelve teams are recommended for the Head to Head game which takes winning teams into playoffs and the championship. There must be an even number of teams. So, if you want to play, send me an e-mail or send a private message.

I'm possibly interested as well. Played ESPN the last 3-4 years, and posted last year to try to get interest in a league (must have been either before or after you guys had started one).
This sounds really interesting even though I'm not too familiar with fantasy sports. Can someone give me more details about what's involved?

Feb 8 2003, 12:55 PM
Okay, I'm going to be the commissioner (just call me Bud, NOT!). As soon as CBS Sportsline sets up the offer for Fantasy Baseball, I'll set up the league and contact the people who e-mail or private message their desire to participate.
There will be a limit of 12 teams, so I'll take the first 12 Outsports members who e-mail or private message their desire to participate.
Once I have it set up with CBS Sportsline, there will be a draft and weekly line-up changes. Before the draft, we'll have communications concerning your questions about the draft, setting up your team ID, etc. It's not that difficult from my experience with Fantasy Football.
So, if you want to play, send me an e-mail or private message and you'll be in the league!

Room for two more! I might talk my younger brother in Austin TX into playing (he's gay too!), but haven't had a chance to talk to him yet.
SeaMarFan and George_vikingfan need to e-mail me to confirm their participation, I just took from their posts here that they were interested and just want to make sure. wink

Just sent you an e-mail, Bill, adding my name to the list of "owners" (assuming there is still space available)....I participated in the ESPN fantasy baseball leagues for two years and, although I enjoyed it immensely, I found that the daily roster updates unfortunately were too time consuming with my schedule....anyway, this sounds like an awesome idea!....nothing like some healthy competition among fellow Outsporters to make the baseball season even more exciting.
Bring on the warm weather and live baseball ASAP!

It looks like we might be limited to 10 team owners, but I won't know for sure until CBS Sportsline posts the league offering.

How about that?....I was "first alternate" (like in some beauty pageant or something? eek! ) and actually get to participate when one of the "elected officials" cannot serve their term, huh....this must be how Dick Cheney feels waiting for something to happen to W.
This should be a blast, though....thanks for the update Bill even though I intend on kicking y'alls butts (and that includes Canmark after his victorious first half run in the NBA VGM contest)

....not much better than earning some bragging rights over a few fellow Outsporters combined with watching some great baseball all summer long....and after shoveling some more snow this weekend I'm definitely ready for some warm temps and enjoying watching the "boys of summer" play ball!

Everyone should have received an invitation e-mail with a link to our league home page. If you have not received it, send me an e-mail so I can verify your e-mail address.
I left a message on the site, please read! I encourage you to go to the site often for tips on preparing for the draft and to just get used to navigating the site's many features.
Be sure and click on the Help menu in the upper right for league rules. Also, the Frequently Asked Questions link is very useful.
This is going to be fun!
Oh no, looks like I'm in yet, another scandal. I'll always be known as the whimp who dropped out; now my baseball "fantasies" will never come true! eek!

a) Things turned out okay for Vanessa. And whatever happened to Suzette Charles?

If SeaMarFan = Vanessa Williams, umm, where can I find the nude pics?
I've been compared to a few different people in my life, but "Vanessa Williams"?? That's definitely a first! And now if you'll excuse me, I have an evening gown to slip into.
Perhaps Joe would like me to take a few photos before doing so?

Wisconsin Jock, have you voted on the website? Or posted a message on that bulletin board? I know that I haven't come back here to this topic since joining the league.
I'm helping BillSF out with the league, so if you have any criticism please direct some my way! Also, I paid for two more teams on CBS Sportsline: 5x5 AL-only and 5x5 NL-only using their rules. No customization, but for anyone interested in Fantasy Baseball please look me up or ask for details!
Between the new ESPN homepage, and the price you pay for their fantasy games to get the chance for a lousy T-shirt IF you win your league, I made the decision not to do ESPN FLB this year.

Oh please... unless you're going to a pre-show party, there should be plenty of time to finish a draft in 3 hours. Worst case, the draft will last 6.75 hours on auto pilot, which means you'll have about 3 hours of show left afterward. wink

The 10 Outsports members in the cbs.sportsline Fantasy Baseball league had a very enjoyable draft last night, from my (surprising to some) #1 pick Randy Johnson to Gamecock's #250 pick Matt Anderson.
Our commissioner did suffer some computer problems which knocked him out of the first several rounds of the draft. He was replaced by an pitcher-loving android, as he rebooted his computer (lip-readers were having a field day). wink
Good luck to all!
The Canadians' first period game is against our American rivals...those Fightin' Yankees. Watch out, Yankees, we're coming down on you like Michael Moore! wink

Gosh, somehow I wound up with Jason Giambi, Andy Pettitte, Bernie Williams, Jorge Posada and Roger Clemens on my team!! How do you suppose that happened?

In any case, it's a long season, Canmark - no matter what happens in the first period the Fightin' Yankees will prevail in the long haul.

Well, the android was just following my queued up players - I intentionally set up all the pitchers to be drafted first! You should have heard me screaming at CBS Sportsline about getting booted off. Turns out it was a problem originating with the Netscape 7.02 browser. Once I figured that out and switched to an Explorer browser, everything worked fine.
The draft was tons of fun!

Yesterday's draft was quite entertaining to say the least (and the three hours went by in a flash) but this is my first venture with CBS SportsLine fantasy league and it is quite different than the ESPN leagues which I have been participating in for the past four years (along with the fact that our commissioner chose "head-to-head" weekly competition instead of the daily season-long "rotisserie" stats but it should make for an interesting season nonetheless)....one of the errors I made in my draft was not realizing that our 22 player "active roster" is limited to a maximum of four starting OF's -- meaning that unlike ESPN leagues where I can conceivably have six OF's starting every day, even if I choose to utilize the optional DH slot here and fill it with another OF, I am still overloaded with quality players at that position (including Sammy Sosa, Shawn Green, Larry Walker, Pat Burrell

, Cliff Floyd, Juan Pierre (who will help immensely in the SB category and may steal 70 this year for the Marlins), and J.D. Drew (who I know is injured now but will occupy one of two DL slots on my roster until he returns in June) and as a result I will be entertaining trade offers for OF's (preferably in exchange for a quality 1B or 3B to fill the "corner infield" slot in my lineup)....this league will certainly help to make the baseball season more entertaining than it already is.
