So my housemate dragged me to Iron Man last night. It was...decent. Anyway, who is your favorite super hero, and why?

When I was a kid, it was Aquaman, cause I liked to swim. Now, it's Spiderman. Why? Cause he is just f**kin' cool. Although, I think the recent Spiderman movies were a real missed opportunity. They are all too hollywood sugar coated (compare with Batman Begins, which is very dark). The Spiderman series could have been really amazing if someone like the Wachowski Bros (The Matrix) had produced them. Oh well.

Thank you, sedition, for starting this topic!

A favorite of mine as a kid was Aquaman, too. Wherever I swam...pool, lake, ocean...I imagined I had an underwater kingdom. Spiderman was wicked cool too. He has great super hero abilities!

Other favorites were Captain America and The Phantom. Fighting Nazis, exotic locales, all set in the thirties and forties. Great stuff to fire the imagination!

My all time favorite is Batman, aka the Dark Knight. I admire him, because he doesn't have any superhuman abilities...just true grit, integrity, intelligence, and fantastic athletic abilities. His dark, brooding nature, moral compass, and gung-ho individualism are the qualities I like best in him.

Another favorite is not strictly speaking a super hero. He's The Rawhide Kid. He represents the loner going after injustice, who many suspect to be on the other side of the law, but who is really not. When Marvel outed him a while back, it came as no surprise. I knew he was gay all along!

My first comic I bought at 4 years old was The Legion of the Super Heros.

It featured Colossal Boy so he was my first crush.

When the Super Friends was on TV Saturday morning I loved Aquaman!!!! I used to wake up before the test pattern stopped and programing started as Super Friends was the first thing on at 6 a.m.

Then when I was 8 or 9 (Actually, I believe I was about 6 or 7) Santa brought me a Hulk Doll for Xmas. I had his pants off in about 5 minutes!

Superman came out right in the midst of puberty so I LOVE ME SOME KAL-EL!

Today I don't know if I have a favorite. Perhaps the new Superman only because Brandon is so cute!

Have a great Memorial Day!

Best,

There is Superman, and then there's everyone else. If it weren't for Superman the whole superhero genre might not exist.
