The annual
Great Saunter will take place on Saturday the first of May. We start at 7:30 am downtown at the corner of Fulton & Market streets, and end up there about 7:30 pm, having walked all the way around the perimeter of Manhattan. We walk up the Hudson in the morning, and down the Harlem and East rivers in the afternoon. It's like taking the Circle Line tour on foot.
SheaBoy will be there, for his fifth time. He would love to see other OutSporters there. E-mail me or check the
Shorewalkers webpage for details.

Well, the response has been overwhelming. If any OutSporters do show up tomorrow, look for SheaBoy. I'll be wearing a tan Mets cap and serial #239.

It was excellent. I finished in just under 12 hours. I met several interesting people. The weather was good: not too hot, not too sunny. I haven't heard the "official" numbers yet, but there were probably 400 or so people who started and 100 or so who finished. If you don't mind missing the Kentucky Derby, it's a great way to spend the first Saturday in May.
In June, there's a walk in which we'll try to walk across all of the bridges into and out of Manhattan, starting at the Brooklyn Bridge and--if we can make it--finishing at the GWB. That should be fun.

It's almost time again. SheaBoy will be making this walk around Manhattan in May, and invites Outsporters to join him. The start and end of the walk is in downtown Manhattan, near the South Street Seaport. We leave at 7:30 am. Most people finish between 6:30 and 8:30 pm. Here's a description from
www.Shorewalkers.org :
On Saturday, May 7, 2005, the Shorewalkers will hold their 20th annual Great Saunter—a 32 mile walk around Manhattan’s rim. The pace is steady, but not fast. Most of the route is fairly flat. We keep to the waterside as much as possible. No rain date. We’ll go rain or shine and some of us will make it round, regardless of the weather. We walk through over a dozen parks, and touch a dozen cultures.

That's the day some of us Outsporters will be at the Yankees game that afternoon.

SheaBoy - best of luck. Unfortunately, I can't be in NY that day for your walk or the Yankees game.
