Full Version: NYC Yankees-Mets get together
Outsports Discussion Board > Outsports > Local Sports & Activities

Anyone interested in getting together to watch the Yankees-Mets game on Friday, July 2, at 7:00? Cattledog and Indy Mike will be in town next Friday and we'll be at the Barrow Street Alehouse in the Village to watch the game. We will get there about an hour before the game to get a table.

The Barrow Street Alehouse is a gay-friendly sports bar near Christopher St. and 7th Ave. S. After the game, we could head to another bar in the Village, such as Ty's. If interested, post below, or email or PM Cattledog or me.

The only requirement is that you must root for the "correct" New York team (the one that has won 26 World Series titles biggrin.gif ) Of course, I am just kidding. Even Mets fans are welcome. It should be fun!

It will be the day after Canada Day and it will be two days before US Independence Day, but we will be celebrating the lives of the following people who died on this particular day:
20th US President John Garfield (assassinated in 1882)
Writer Ernest Hemingway (shot himself to death in 1961)
NASCAR legend Glen "Fireball" Robers (car crash in 1964)
Rolling Stones drummer and founder Brian Jones (drowned in 1969)
...and of course, prophet and scholar Nostradamus (predicted his own death in 1566).

Just bumping this thread up. As I posted in another thread, I hope some NY (and out of town) Outsporters can make one or both of the get togethers next week.
Munson Man
Pat and C-Dog - Sounds good. I'll be there. Looking forward to seeing you both again.
BPT-336
Sounds like a plan. I'll wear my Mets finest! biggrin.gif

A Friday night...I need to save my vacation time for my Canada trip in Aug-Sept. I wonder if there's a chance I can get into work for 6 am, leave at 2:30 pm and catch the train?
Munson Man
Well, it is the start of the July 4th weekend, so I can't imagine there'll be too much work getting done that afternoon. i say go for it, Joe!

As for BPT wearing that Mets jersey, i may have to bring a tub of jello for the two of us to wrestle in.

Oh, I see. You are going to wear a plain, white t-shirt. tongue.gif
Cattledog
Oh, yeah. None of you need to worry about getting there early. As Pat125 had already posted, Pat and I will make a point to get into the City earlier on Friday (02 July) to reserve a spot for us. I know that at least 7 or 8 have already said that you might be coming. Looking forward to it...

eek! eek! eek! eek! eek! eek! eek! eek!

I may actually have to wear that white t-shirt after all.
pat125
Hi Munson Man and BPT336, I'm glad that you can make it. Anyone else interested?
scottie
I'm 90% sure I'm going to come up and join you guys. Now I just have to figure out who to root for. biggrin.gif
Joe in Philly
On one hand, as long as the Mets are still in the playoff chase, you root for the Yankees.

On the other hand, they're the Yankees so you root for the Mets.

If I make it up there, I figure whoever buys me drinks will have my allegiance for the night. biggrin.gif
Cattledog
Everybody knows that Yankees fans (especially the men) are better looking than Mets fans. So definitely use your proper judgment. biggrin.gif

Yeah, Billy Crystal and Rudy Guilliani are total stud muffins. rolleyes.gif biggrin.gif

But if Mets fans were to buy me enough drinks.... biggrin.gif

Oh Gag me with a Spork! Yanks fans are not called the "Skanks" for nothing! Half the male Yank fans look like former Yankee David Wells after he spent a night looking through a beer glass, the other half look like Wells "clean shaven", snorting coke with Darryl and Steve Howe in the back room. eek! tongue.gif

The female Yank fans are vapid, with no knowledge of baseball, and a warped definition of the size of "Jetter's" package. Thanks to Mariah, we know which side of the family he got that from! wink

Give me the that diverse Mets fan base anyday! John Rocker may not have liked the 7 train riders, but I do. Way. hotter. period. And we wouldn't mind buying Joe or scottie a drink so that they would have no problem saying, LETS GO METS!
biggrin.gif
Cattledog
In order to get a free drink from any Mets fan, you first have to get past that unbearable chip that he has on his shoulder. rolleyes.gif biggrin.gif

Since Joe seems so intent on having people buy him drinks, I'll pass my free drink card to him, so you can buy him 2 drinks. I cannot be bought so cheaply biggrin.gif (unless I want to be) wink

I've check the Amtrak schedules, and I can get a train as late as 5 pm (or 5:30 if I get the Acela Express) and get to Barrow St around 7 or shortly thereafter. This would mean I could get into work as late as 7:45 or so and still get to 30th St. Station to catch a train. But if I do so, the last Amtrak train home is at 11:05 pm, or else I'd have to wait all night and catch an early train the next morning. Bars are open 'til 4 am, right? wink
Munson Man
Hmmmmm......I ran into Phillyrunner in Chelsea after the Pride parade yesterday. He said he'd be in town all week, so perhaps we can get him to join us as well. How sad is it that in a city the size of New York Pat and I will be the only real-live-honest-to-goodness New Yorkers there (although Pat lives in the 'burbs, we claim him as our own)?
Joe in Philly
If you get Phillyrunner to attend, and I make it, and scottie makes it, the Philly contingent would outnumber the hometown New Yorkers. How about Cyd? He lives up there now. You need to call in reinforcements. wink
pat125
Hi JIP and scottie, nice to hear that you will be attending. Hopefully, Phillyrunner can make it as well. Munson Man, I would be happy to be claimed as a New Yorker, although, I don't know if most New Yorkers would approve a NJ guy as one. smile.gif

Also, in case you've never been to Barrow St. Alehouse, it does have food. They have many of the standard bar and grill fare, and the food is pretty good.
BPT-336
So where o where are all the other NYC people? Even the ones who don't like baseball.... C'mon down to the bar... we'd love to meet you if we haven't already! biggrin.gif
Joe in Philly
Thanks, Pat, but I'm not a definite yet -- I'm still a tentative, depending on if I get into work early enough on Friday.
pat125
Sorry, Joe, for jumping the gun. Hopefully, you can make it.

I hope so too! I'm trying to sell the event as a chance to "funnell a few back" with you and the rest of us. eek! tongue.gif

IndyMike called me from Yankee Stadium last night, and he is definitely coming Friday night. This has been some week for me personally. My sister-in-law had triplets on Sunday--so I went from an uncle of 4 to an uncle of 7 in just a few minutes! I was informed that I was getting a promotion yesterday! The Yankees are 4-0 so far this week!. So, you guys can plan on me getting into a very happy drunken state. biggrin.gif

Congratulations. If you weren't dating someone, we'd probably be trying to take advantage of you in your drunken state. wink

I will definitely be there, see you guys Friday night. Still need to figure out who I'm rooting for.

Indy Mike
I will be there Friday night as well. I've been here since last Saturday and staying until this Sunday. Since Friday is near the end of my trip, a good drink-a-thon seems in order!
Munson Man
Scratch the only Manhattanite from the starting lineup for Friday night. Just got invited to the beach for the weekend. Hopefully I'll catch up with you all next time around. Oh, and

GO, YANKEES !

I did. They faxed over a cease and desist order 20 minutes later. Something about SPAM-ing the outsports boards with an excessive number of postings.... tongue.gif
Joe in Philly
Well, I didn't get much sleep last night. Neither did Red Sox fans, I imagine. tongue.gif But I managed to drag myself out of bed and get into work early, so I am officially in for tonight! I'm taking Amtrak and am supposed to arrive at Penn Station at 5:48 pm, in case anyone wants to send a limo. wink

Here is the link to the Barrow Street Alehouse and gives location and directions.

Like Pat said, we will get there early to get a table.
