Full Version: Something weird is going on...
Outsports Discussion Board > Outsports > About the Board
hockeyTom
I know of at least one other Outsporter who is having the same issues that am I of late, and that is about every other time after logging into the site, only the Outsport banner appears at the top of the screnn, and there is nothing else below. I have been hitting the refresh button which works most of the time....anyone else experiencing this?
jsieds
Yes, even when I tried responding to this post - Outsports banner and nothing else. Refresh and the page displays fully.
Maddog
Yeah it's happening to me too. On both home and work computers.
Enigma
It's happening to me too... I have to refresh a few times before i can access the board.
Jim at Outsports
I have never seen this but I have asked Cyd.
Cyd at Outsports
Weird. I haven't experienced this issue at all. Can anyone get a screen capture of it when it happens? That will help identify where the issue is.

Thanks!!
hockeyTom
It just happened to me again, as soon as I clicked on "discussion board", I had to hit the refresh button 2X, and then it was okay, because I got part of th eoutsports banner at th etop with nothing in the body.
swiminbuff
Happening to me as well, it started yesterday.
Cyd at Outsports
Please get a quick screen capture of it - that will really help. How much of the top banner are you seeing? Do you see "privacy statement"?

Also, look in the lower left hand corner of the browser window. It may say "done," it may have a yellow alert sign (should be the latter, if there's an error). What does it say?

More info would really help, because we are just not having this issue. Thanks!
kick
I cant get a screep caputre for you- but it seems to cut off just before the top Ad- and does not include the little blue area above the Outsports Discusiion Board> etc, etc. line. It does now show the line where it says "Logged in as: XXX
Enigma
Weird - it's not happening to me anymore... but if it does, I'll definitely screen capture it.

I have been consistently having problems with this board for about 2 weeks now.No matter what I click on it takes forever for it to react. It's like everything is out of whack.
Texas Daytripper
I thought it was just me. At least I now know it's not.
hockeyTom
No problems thus far for me this morning, but this had been going on for about 2 weeks with me, same as Eddies. Hopefully its no longer as issue.

I will try to get a screen capture if it happens again to me. I think it is a bad interaction with one of the ads at the top of the page. For example, the Verizon ad autoexpands over the first few lines of the text when you mouse over it. The size of the window that we've been getting seems to be the same size of the expanded ad box. I think somehow the browser is getting the instructions on the size of the ad window first and then trying to load the board into that.
Maddog
That's a great observation Frank. Basically it takes the Outsports Header and reduces it to the size of a banner ad and prevents the rest of the page from loading. You need to hit F5 until it loads properly which could easily be when a different banner ad comes up in rotation. I've had to hit F5 a couple of times before the page would load. I would agree that the roll-over pop-up ads are a good place to start your search for the evil offending truncating ad.

Enigma
I got a screen capture this morning... oddly enough, I found that it happened whenever I get a PM...

hockeyTom
Thats exactly what I had been seeing. Haven't had the problem in 2 days now. Hope my luck holds.
Cyd at Outsports
This is great feedback, guys. With that, I know whom to address this with. Thanks everyone!
hockeyTom
All went fine just now UNTIL I went to hit the back button, then got the same result that Enigma showed, and hit refresh 3X and voila....
Joe in Philly
I've never had this problem.

And I'll just say again that I looooooooove that Flashblock thing I downloaded for Firefox. I'd go to sites like ESPN and videos would automatically start playing. No more!
hockeyTom
It's still happening. This morning took 3 tries ( 3 hits of refresh) to be able to get in, and once I did there was a huge floating Circuit City ad, if it means anything......
Penn State
I'm still getting this going on... it's not happening as often, but it still occurs and I have to refresh 3-5 times to get the page to load correctly.
Penn State
I'm still having trouble with this. It seemed to have gone away, then it started up again. Plus, it happened to me on the blog pages.

I also am having trouble with pages not loading fully. The banner at the top loads (and in the correct width), but nothing else. The bottom of my screen shows it trying to load, then it says done. But nothing is displaying other than the Outsports banner. I have to refresh the page several times (usually at least 3 times) to get it to finally display. It doesn't happen all the time, but every time I check out the board, I have trouble at some point.

Same problem as before, but this time, a singleton ad is showing at the top of the page underneath the top heading..

Screen captures for Cyd or Jim anyone?
hockeyTom
The problem is still ongoing with me as well....some days worse than others...
Maddog
It's getting worse. Took 8 F5's to get me to this post screen.
mdterp01
Yeah I've been having trouble with this for a hot minute now and I had never even thought to look in this section to see if others were having issue except that now it took me about 7 times for the thing to go normal and it just plucked the last nerve I have left today. So...glad to see its being discussed and hopefully soon to be resolved.
Joe in Philly
I am noticing this a little bit today. I think there might have been an earlier thread on it...or it was mentioned in some other thread. Something to do with the ads loading up, because I always notice in the status bar "transferring data from -----" and the name of some ad service while the screen is mostly blank.
kick
I am overwhelmed by the power of assistance and guidance in this matter

CycloneMatt
Yeah, thought it was just me for the longest time. Have it happen at home and at the office fairly frequently. I think the worst I've had a loading delay was hitting 'refresh' twice, tho.
Penn State
This problem had seemingly gone away for awhile, but now it's back. It's not as frequent, and doesn't require as many refreshes as before. But it's starting up again.
hockeyTom
Whats going on with the board today? This is the first time I have been able to get back on since this morning....been just stalling out constantly up until now......
Jim at Outsports
had and are still having as of now major issues with the whole site. we can explain more when fully up.
Erstegeiger
3 times tried to post response to the "French get schooled" about the Americans winning the 400 relay. I loved it. Amazing moment. I Didn't want to think they werre directing their flexing and the comment "That's what we're talking about!" at the french...............but perhaps I am just being naive?

So now I posted, someone else can move it for me or post it to comments in the olympic blog!

Best,

Drew
Texas Daytripper
Ugh !!!! Still having problems with the pages, not wanting to fully load up. I must've hit refresh 5 or 6 times. Really aggravating.
hockeyTom
It still occurs from time to time with me as well....Jim said he thought it was my computer perhaps...

Don't look now, but this just happened to me when I first came on the board today. The shrunken Outsports header, and a blank white page. Had to refresh to get the board to come up.
Texas Daytripper
That thing started up again, yesterday for me. I had to hit reload, a few times, to get a page to appear today.
Munson Man
Same here - it's been happening all day today.

Yup, it's definitely getting worse. I had to refresh the same page 5 times today before it would load.

Hey guys, this crap has started up again. Started happening last week.

hockeyTom
I agree. Its has gotten much worse. Having to hit F-5 all the time now. sad.gif

Odd that only a few users are having this trouble. Are you using ad-blocking software? If so, does the problem still occur with ad-block turned off?
Cyd at Outsports
Yes, please give us more details. This hasn't happened to me a single time. Browser info would be great. And a screen shot! mail@outsports.com

Same thing as the first screen capture on the June 10th post. Doesn't happen all the time, but when it does, the Outsports banner shrinks to about 2/3 the normal size, and the rest of the page is blank (white). Sometimes it says "Error" in the bottom left, and sometimes it says "Done" after it doesn't load the page. You then have to hit reload 1-5 times to get the page to load with content, instead of just the shrunken banner. Only happens on the discussion board. Also, I noticed that often when this is happening, when the board does load, the skyscraper ads on the right side run off the page, and you may only see a small sliver of them. You have to scroll over to see the ad. Like the width of the posting section is too wide, pushing the ad off the screen... which would mean the tables are probably set to pixel widths rather than % of screen. But that doesn't really make sense, since if it were pixel widths, it would be constant, not changing.

Another possibility, although my limited code knowledge says this probably isn't the case, is that the page is misreading the size of the monitor. I have a traditional size flat screen, not a widescreen flat screen. When the page loads to wide, it's like it's scaling it for a widescreen monitor, rather than the monitor I have. But that wouldn't explain why it sometimes loads nothing but the banner, and a smaller one at that. But I throw it out there in case it triggers some thoughts with someone who knows more programming that I do.

Using Internet Explorer 7.0. No ad blocker, but do have a pop-up blocker on.
