Anyone following the CWS this year? Fresno State is currently on an amazing run and now stands just one win away from playing for the NCAA championship.
A month ago, the Bulldogs were 31-27 overall and their top pitcher (a projected Top 10 pick in the MLB draft) developed a shoulder injury that would sideline him for the rest of the season. It appeared as though this team might not even finish the year with a winning record, and they had to win the WAC Tournament just to get an NCAA bid.
In the last three weeks of NCAA Tournament and College World Series play, Fresno State has really come out of nowhere to beat 22nd-ranked Long Beach State (the Big West champion), 7th-ranked San Diego (the WCC champ), 3rd-ranked Arizona State (the Pac-10 champ), 6th-ranked Rice (Conference USA champ) and now 2nd-ranked North Carolina (the ACC champion) last night.
Even the biggest Bulldog fans couldn't have forecast this scenario. This is the lowest seeded team to ever even reach the World Series, let alone win a few games.
The CWS is far from over, but it's a pretty remarkable story to see this team even get this far.

OK so I may be the only one interested in college baseball after all.

Actually I've watched more of the World Series this year than ever.
So Fresno State's improbable run continues and the Bulldogs have made it all the way to the NCAA championship game. They surprised 2nd-ranked North Carolina again tonight 6-1 to reach the NCAA championship, where they'll face Georgia. The best-of-3 championship series will be Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday if necessary. I don't know how this team keeps winning. They beat only one Top 20 team during the entire regular season, but have now won 8 games against the Top 20 during the NCAA Tournament. What an amazing run. As ESPN said tonight, no team seeded this low has ever reached the NCAA finals in any sport until now.

You're not the only one following it. I am--sort of.
I've had to TIVO most of the games because I'm usually on the field myself when they're playing.

I've watched less of it than ever this year. With the major league games I have, between the Phillies and the MLB package, I just don't tune into the college games now.

Amazing game tonight with Fresno State rallying from a 5-0 deficit to rout Georgia 19-10 and force a deciding game 3 tomorrow for the NCAA championship. Things looked great for the Georgia Dawgs early and bleak for FSU, but Fresno State scored 15 runs in a 3-inning stretch to break it open. Somehow Fresno State has managed to win 5 straight elimination games -- all against Top 10 ranked teams -- in the NCAA Tournament.

And now the Cinderella run is complete as Fresno State won the NCAA championship with a 6-1 win over Georgia tonight. What a stunning run to the national title.

What a run for the FSU 'dawgs. Had more fun watching them in the CWS than watching OSU last year. I watched the finals with some friends from Georgia - cheering for FSU, of course. And, yeah, I want into the Tommy Mendonca fan club.
