The Toronto International Film Festival came out, and this year's festival includes a documentary More Than A Game, about LeBron James' high school basketball team.

In previous year's they've screened some good basketball documentaries, including The Heart of the Game and The Year of The Yao. LeBron himself is supposed to attend the festival to promote this film.

QUOTE
Talk about being in the right place at the right time. Several years ago, first-time director Kristopher Belman decided to follow a high-school basketball team in his hometown of Akron, Ohio. Its core group of players were four African-American youth from varying backgrounds, playing for the elite, predominantly white school St. Vincent-St. Mary. The boys had played together with the same coach since they were in grade school, developing an unusual chemistry. Hollywood should be so lucky to find such a script about family, redemption and what it takes to win. And as if that was not enough, one of the players went on to become an NBA superstar...

Well this doesn't have anything to do with the draft or offseason moves but it's the only active NBA thread. Former Trailblazer Kevin Duckworth died yesterday. He was only 44. Cause of death has not yet been released.

This is comical. Do they expect Ewing Jr. to sell tickets or something? It sure seems like the Knicks made the trade mostly for the name value.

Well, at least give him credit for the most significant foreign policy move of any GM.

Especially since he reportedly doesn't have the skill level (other than a vertical leap) to even belong in the NBA.

I guess you guys have heard by now that Grizzlies Rookie, Darrell Arthur and his friend Mario were thrown out of Rookie Camp. Darrell, who's room the incident took place in, swears he did not have any MARY JANE himself, even though they set off the room's smoke detector at 2AM. Arthur wouldn't allow security to come in the room to check the alarm. When they came back with the police, the room smelled of MJ and someone was flushing the toilet, repeatedly. Darrell says and I quote, "I'm a good kid. I wasn't doing no drugs. I was just horny, and we let them girls come to our room. I know I broke the rules about having visitors, but I want everyone to know I'm a good kid." The Grizzlies are setting him up some community service, talking to at-risk youth about the importance of making good decisions. Perhaps, he should make a few, before he instructs others. From now on though, he will be known as GOOD-N-HORNY to me.(lol) He's a good kid, just ask him!...and horny!!!!!!!!! laugh.gif

The documentary More than a Game, about LeBron James' high school baskeball team, was the runner-up for the People's Choice Award at the Toronto International Film Festival (the winner was the excellent Slumdog Millionaire). Not sure how much crossover appeal the film will have, but it would definitely appeal to hoops fans (I would also recommend The Heart of the Game, which I think is an even better film than the LeBron doc).

Here's a pic of LeBron addressing the audience at the premiere screening. If you look carefully, you can see me in the audience.

How far is OK City from Memphis, that you can make it to all the games?

How far is OK City from Memphis, that you can make it to all the games?

I'm 3 1/2 hours from Memphis, and 4 from OKC. I donate the tickets, and purchase tickets to select games. Generally, I attend 25 to 30 Grizzlies games a year. This year, I'll attend in both cities, where my schedule allows. The part I don't like the most is: the Thunder and Grizzlies have 17 home games on the same day, including opening night. So I have some tough decisions to make. My partner of 17 years thinks I'm completely crazy, but that's part of what he loves of me! laugh.gif

Larry, if you decide to become a Pau fan, let me know and I'll hook you up with some Pau memorabilia. I have one or two or fifty autographed items! biggrin.gif

Hey Smokey16. Maybe you'll have a chance to take in the Raptors new 3rd uniform that they plan on wearing for the home opener and New Years eve and a few games on the road. So exciting the new colur.

Yup - you guessed it - black with red trim. One nice touch though - a little red Maple Leaf on the back. The Raps are really starting to push the fact that they are 'Canada's Team' - now that the only other Canadian team - the Vancouver Grizzles - no longer play in Canada. Good thing - otherwise how long would it take you to get to Grizzlies games if they still played in Vancouver. tongue.gif
Here's a link that should show the new uniforms.

Was looking on NBA.com and... have the Sixers gone retro?
IPB Image
Joe in Philly
Not that I'm aware of. I tried going to their website but I have that Flash block program (which I mentioned in one of those threads about people having problems with the Outsports site). It leaves a little icon for me to click on if I actually want to see the Flash animation. On the Sixers website when I click on it, instead of displaying whatever it's supposed to, it refreshes the entire page and I just get the little icon again. But as far as I know, they haven't gone back to that logo as their main logo. I wouldn't mind if they did. I much prefer the red, white and blue to that black and gold scheme in the modern logo.

Memphis held it's Open Practice, Saturday. Man, was it confusing. There was this player there, his name was Gasol and wore Mike Miller's number, but I didn't recognize him! (j/k)

When asked what assets he would be bringing to the Grizzlies, Jaric responded.....

I, later, found out he had his nose out of joint (broken, actually)!

Luke Walton has a stalker.

Elgin Baylor pushed out of the Clippers organization.

QUOTE
Elgin Baylor is out as vice president of basketball operations with the Los Angeles Clippers, and coach Mike Dunleavy will assume his responsibilities as general manager.

While Dunleavy said Baylor had decided to resign after spending 22 years as an executive with the team, Baylor painted a little different picture when reached by The Los Angeles Times on Tuesday.

"There is a dispute, and on the advice of my attorney they did not want me to discuss it," Baylor said, according to the newspaper. "That's all I can say."

LarryC
Baylor has never been effective as a GM, but only the mad mind of Donald Sterling knows why Baylor was fired after 22 years of the same. Sterling has also engaged in absurd hostilities with Dunleavy in the recent past, so this is probably heading south, like all things do with the Clippers.

By the way, we should start a "2008 - 2009 Season" thread.

Yeah, it's almost that time. A couple of more weeks and the regular season will start.

My predictions so far:

Worst of the West: Grizzlies, Thunder and Kings
Least of the East: Knicks, Pacers, and Bobcats

Best of the West: Hornets, Jazz, and Lakers
Elite East: Celtics, Cavs, and Magic
