And I like the choice as well. That would be John Kerry, who IMO would be highly qualified, and I suspect has learned his lesson about answering the smears that he faced in '04, not that he would have to necessarily in the position as a potential V.P. choice, but he would bring a wealth of experience both militarily, and geopolitically to the table. Job Webb now is officially off the list.

My guess is the John Kerry rumor was planted by........John Kerry!

Obama's made quite a few mistakes the past couple of weeks, but not even someone as inexperienced as him would be so stupid as to pick the milquetoast Kerry, with his patina of resigned failure, as a running mate.

If he were to pick Kerry, there'd be dancing in the streets of every red state. I think the choice will be a Southerner or Midwesterner. I wouldn't be surprised to see Claire McCaskill get the nod simply because she's a woman and is from Missouri, which has been very close the past couple of elections.

Love the characterization of Kerry..."patina of resigned failure." laugh.gif He always reminded me of Fred Gwynne.

To pick Kerry would be a sure way for the Democrats to screw up a sure thing for them.

He'll pick a conservative Democrat from a red state, an independent to underscore the "change" theme of his campaign, or someone with impeccable foreign policy bona fides.

It'll be interesting who McCain picks. One possibility is the governor of Florida, who became recently engaged to a woman. I doubt it, though. The Republicans only have to remind themselves of the first Bush's pool of vp choices, that included Jack Kemp. If the Fl. gov is the pick, I invoke Nemesis to visit such hubris!

I really hope he picks popular Montana Governor Brian Schweitzer. He'd be a very good choice.
