Can I please ask a favor of anyone with a "Reverand" in front of their name? Can you please keep the pie-hole closed until after November? Every time a "reverand" opens his mouth and talks about Obama, two huge feet seem to enter said mouth. Just zip it until Obama is elected president...thanks bunches!

JESSE JACKSON SAYS HE WANTS TO CUT OBAMA'S 'NUTS OUT'

WASHINGTON - In a vulgar tirade caught on tape by Fox News, the Rev. Jesse Jackson said he wanted to "cut his [Barack Obama's] nuts out" and he accused the fellow Chicagoan of "talking down to black folks" by giving moral lectures to African-Americans, source said Jackson's shocking quotes were picked up by a hot mic before an interview on health care in Fox's Chicago studio last Sunday

Fox planned to air the recording on Bill O'Reilly's "The Factor" show.

In an effort to blunt the controversy, Jackson issued an apology.

"For any harm or hurt that this hot mic conversation may have caused, I apologize," Jackson said in a statement.

Jackson said he couldn't recall everything he'd said in the studio but couched the remarks as part of a discussion about Obama speaking to black churchgoers.

In such settings, Obama has urged greater emphasis on fatherhood, advised parents to choose reading books over playing video games and most recently told young students to stick with school and forget about a career as a rap star or professional basketball player.

Jackson said that in doing so Obama was hurting his relationship with black voters, "that the senator was cutting off his you-know-whats with the black people and black churches."

Jackson told CNN that he called the Obama campaign to apologize and reiterated his support for the campaign of the first black nominee of a major party.

"My support for Senator Obama's campaign is wide, deep and unequivocal," he said in his statement. "I cherish this redemptive and historical moment."

Obama had no comment.

(End of article)

Obama, showing his usual class, had no comment. Maybe some of the "reverands" could take a lesson or two from Sen. Obama.

Surprised? Not in the least. While I acknowledge that Jesse Jackson has done some great things for the advancement of equality, its too often been marred by BS like this. His "Hymietown" comments referring to Jews in NY was ridiculous. He previously referred to Obama as "acting white" and now the man wants to cut Obama's nuts off? blink.gif You idiot!! Of all the damn news stations where you should NEVER THINK YOUR MIC IS OFF....you say these comments taping a Fox News Channel Show? But, I'm glad it was on. I've defended him for things in the past, but this is the side of Jackson that he deservingly gets heavily criticized for. Even Coretta Scott King and the King family had stopped talking to him for awhile because Jackson has to be the center of attention. He likes to hog the spotlight and when someone attains a higher status than he, jealousy erupts. He wasn't successful as a Democratic presidential candidate and I'm sure he has some thoughts about Obama's success there. I mean what the hell? It was ok for Bill Cosby to say basically the same and TRUE comments, but its not right for Obama to do it?

The flip side is that many are saying that this could actually help Obama since Jackson is not popular among whites because of his identity politics. So if Obama and Jackson are seeing as being at odds, it may not be a bad thing. And quiet as its kept, many in the black community are tired of Jackson's ass too...he and Sharpton. Its like...thanks for having our backs but its time to put you two to pasture if you are going to do more harm than good.

Although I'm not surprised, it was a rotten thing Fox did to Jackson. Yes, he should have known that the microphone could have been on, but still, Fox played the Gotcha! style of reporting that has become so much part of the media. The man is entitled to express his opinion, whether he's a layman or a clergyman. Imagine if O'Reilly had said something off the cuff, and it had been picked up. That sanctimonious half-witted crank would have gone all holier than thou on the privilege of off the record conversation.

Good points, terp and BigBlue!

I used to be the biggest Jesse Jackson supporter in the world about 10 years ago. But probably since the early part of this decade, his relevancy in the Democratic party has lessened more and more. He's had so many gaffes, missteps and embarrassing things happen that it's very difficult to give him the respect that he commanded not that long ago. I think deep-down that Jackson is immensely jealous of Obama. Barack is the political figure that Jackson never could quite become, though it wasn't for lack of trying.

Like terp, I've also heard lots of the pundits say this could be *again* the best thing to happen for Obama. Distancing and separating himself from Jackson will only gain him votes, not lose them.

More junk news to keep people from talking about issues.

Indeed, I just read a headline that said this brouhaha will end up healping Obama. But Jesse should be ashamed of himself. I loved his sons reply bad to Dad though. Right on son!

Open mouth, insert nuts. Jackson just put a soleful new twist on that old foot-in-mouth adage.

This is so incongruous it almost seems staged. Jesse Jackson is an exceptionally intelligent man - smarter than Barack Obama in my opinion. Perhaps his jealousy did get the best of him.

Hockeytom may be right about this helping Obama unintentionally. But this just looks a little too neat for me somehow.

Don't be so quick to criticize FOX. I'm not a big defender of them (or any other "news" outlet, for that matter), but from what I've been told, it's common practice for such news outlets to leave on the microphones of their guests in such situations, and not because they're trying to play "Gotcha!" or anything. Furthermore, I think that by blasting FOX, we're ignoring the real issue here--that being Jackson's stupidity.

BTW, ABC News on the radio today reported how these comments were first noticed, and that FOX does have more comments even "more damaging" than what has so far been publicly heard, and that they have decided not to release them at this time. Just if or when is the big question. However, I must confess, I am curious to know what those other comments are.

There is a big part of me that advocates stuff like this be released publicly no matter what it is and no matter who said it.

Gee, Jesse, just because he mentioned something about responsibility and out-of-wedlock children, you don't have to take it, um, personally.

If this is what passes for issues in this campaign, I'm staying in Iraq where there are SERIOUS discussions about upcoming Iraqi provincial elections this fall.

You certainly put the correct perspective on this.

Godspeed to you over there, PennState4Ever!
