Just wondering if anybody else will be in Seattle next month for the GWS?

I took a look at the website to see which teams are currently listed: http://www.series2008.org/open_teams.cfm
...but I don't see San Fran or NYC? Is this because they may not have had their qualifying tournament yet?

At any rate, it should be a lot of fun. So many fun activities planned, aside from softball. :-)

I guess not too many on here are going to the GWS in Seattle....

Does anybody know if San Francisco has had their qualifying tournament yet? I find it hard to believe not a single SFO team is represented: http://series2008.org/open_teams.cfm

I don't know about a SFO team, but I don't think that anyone from Philly's "D" division will be going. It's a shame; I've always wanted to go to the West Coast. Maybe next time....

It looks like Atlanta is sending 8 total teams (Men's). I always thought a city could not send more than 2 teams per division - Atlanta has three teams in 'A'.

the 'A' division is an open division. Which means they don't have to qualify. Every series you will get at least one to two 'B' teams that decide to play A just so they can attend the series. SF just had thier qualifying tournaments last weekend so they now know which teams are going to be coming to the series.

I will be at the series and first time in 5 years that I won't have to travel! get to sleep in my own bed every nite!

looking at the series 2008 site I see that i now does include SF teams.

I'm surprised there wasn't a discussion on all the teams that were kicked out of the GWS in Seattle (two 'D' teams and the 'A' team that played in the championship game).

BTW....there's a GREAT discussion on the topic here:

A good article in Seattle's weekly The Stranger on the softball controversy. The article already has over 100 comments. The story was picked up by the Wall Street Journal's Law Blog.

Gay Ball: How Some Drama at the Seattle Gay Softball World Series Became a Federal Case

QUOTE
Three years ago, a disagreement erupted on some ball fields just south of Seattle. The 2008 Gay Softball World Series was under way, an alternate universe of competitive sports that moves each year to a different city, bringing with it nearly 200 gay softball teams from across the United States and Canada, as well as thousands of spectators.

The night before that final game, rumors began to swirl.

D2 was cheating, the rumors went, and doing so in a way that is unique to the world of organized gay sports.

The accusation, which ended up spawning a federal lawsuit that could change the way gay sports are played around the country, was simple and yet very hard to prove: D2 was fielding too many heterosexual players
