The Princes of Flushing sign \"Little\" Matsui to 3 years for either $20 or 23M, depending which sources you believe.

Looks like unofficial adviser John Franco's reservations about moving Jose Reyes to 2B were successfully ignored. (If *only* the Mets chose not to re-sign that washed-up blowhard...)

As a long-time Mets fan I am absolutely freaking ecstatic about this move my team has made. To me this "Little Matsui" looks very flashy and very Southern California-like. I just felt it in my bones that he was going to go to the Dodgers. But he decided to come here. I get a "hard-on" looking at that picture of him holding a up a piece of paper which he wrote "Mets" on and the date 12-08-03.

In addition I think he is probably the best looking Japanese player who has hopped over to the majors.

I just know he is going to make an impact here. I absolutely love Jose Reyes and I am not yet comfortable with him moving to 2nd base but I know it'll all work out somehow.

Kazmania!!! It's begun!

I do think Matsui will make an impact, but I don't think it'll be enough to lift the Mets out of the cellar. On paper, the Braves, Marlins and Phillies are all still clearly better teams.

To take the less bright view of the Kaz signing (which Mets fans tend to be capable of), Rob Neyer points out that "it's fine to have two Gold Glove shortstops in the middle of the infield, but it's a waste of talent. If Reyes can play shortstop, he should play shortstop because that's where he would have the most value."

Someone forgot the demolition-in-progress Expos are in the NL East... Very objective "cellar" prediction, since we don't know the Mets' lineup yet.
