O.K. so I'm, a Brit and probably have a different perspective on the Games so far, but here are a few thoughts on the events, personalities and superb athletes, viewed over the past week:
* Getting extremely bored with all the world records being achieved in the swimming pool. There was a time when to break world record was a true achievement. No longer it would seem! Thank you, technologically-advanced swim suits! You have not only covered some of the most beautiful bodies in sport, but you have managed to negate the honour and dignity of world-record attainment. No longer does it appear to be "man against man" but some other scenario where the battle against the clock seems to be the main and most important stimulus!
* O.K., so Michael Phelps is some swimmer! But is there not something of the "freak" about him? Also, to call him "The Greatest Olympian" ever, is surely an exaggeration! Perhaps he should more correctly be described as the greatest Olympic gold-medallist of all time, but to my way of thinking, "Greatest Olympian" means far more than just a collection of medals! Surely it also implies a wider influence on sport, society and mankind! Step forward Jesse Owens, Emil Zatopek, to name but two.
* Very impressed with the male gymnasts! Not only for their exquisite routines but for presenting perhaps some of the most beautiful bodies in sport. Tomita of Japan, Cullen of the USA, and many others.
* Wonderful to see Felix Sanchez back defending his 400 metres huirdles title. Such a great shame that he has been injured for most of the year and could never truly do himself justice. Without his goatee and surely wearing some form of support beneath his shorts, for the first time that I can remember, he continues to be the eptiome of "Sex on Legs!" To my way of thinking, the most beautiful athlete of our time!
* Good to see the Jamaican sprinters performing so well in the 100 metres and surely Bolt must win this blue riband event. Would love to watch Powell take the title, but he continues to appear fragile. Sad that Tyson Gay is quite obviously nowhere near his true form and would appear to be unable to present a real threat to the Caribbeans.
* What the hell was Dix wearing on his arms? If he concentrated more on the actual skill of sprinting and not appearing like some extra from a Mad Max movie, maybe the USA would offer some greater competition to the West Indian sprinters. As Michael Johnson remarked on the BBCTV Coverage, this could be the first year in decades that the USA will not "medal" in the 100.
* Clement (another beautiful man) was also wearing some extremely strange and remarkably unattractive coverings on his lower legs/calves in the 400 metres hurdles. Anyone, any idea what these strange coverings might actually do or prevent?
* So far, so good........the Chinese have put on a great show.

Well, since the track coverage is DELAYED here in the States, we have yet to see any of the stuff you are talking about with that. U.S. TV coverage sucks in that way.

I did see Dix armbands in the heats and it was pretty....freaky. One might even say, yee gads, gay?
Totally conceited, and not even good fashion.
And Clement should never cover those beautiful hairy legs. Come on, that's NOT gonna give you an edge. And it denies the rest of us the pleasure of them.
I'll still be salivating over him when I finally see that event though.

Further Olympic Thoughts.
* Bolt was awesome. Simply the greatest (and most cheeky!) athletics perfromance I have ever seen. Watch out Michael Johnson! Your 200 metres world record is looking increasingly fragile! Talking of fragile.......poor Asafa Powell! He remains a truly beautiful man, but once more his fragility was exposed.
* Felt truly saddened by Tyson Gay's demise. I believe he would not have beaten Bolt, but his presence was sorely missed. Surely American Athletics has to look at the antiquated and aggressive way in which they select athletes for the major international championships. To subject their athletes to such commitment and to both emotional and physical exhaustion seems to me to be counter-productive. If Gay had been selected on his known talent and achievement and his performances prior to the trials, then perhaps he would not have experienced the injury during the 200 metres qualification and therefore arrived in Beijing, fit, healthy and with the opportunity to express his true ability. Look at the American male long jumpers selected for the games. None of them qualified for the final and yet their best, Dwight Phillips, was left at home, simply because he failed to occupy one of the top three places in the trials. How much more did he have to offer in terms of ability and achievement in order to convince the selectors of his worth. There are numerous other examples.......none of the American Discus Throwers qualified for the final and there are already many examples of athletes (both male and female) who are competing with massive injuries. The American selection process is a total mistake and one that does nothing to reward its true champions.....and those aspiring to be champions.
* Martinez of Cuba........long jump final qualifier......a stunning example of male beauty! A great shame that Italy's male pin-up, Andrew Howe, did not qualify for the final, in the same event.........but South Africa's Godfrey Mokoena did! He fills a pair of tight-fitting shorts remarkably well.
* Looking forward to seeing American 400 metres hurdler, Clement in the final of the event. Not only is he a magnificent hurdler, but his legs are simply amazing! Angelo Taylor could provide tough competition for him, however.
* So Phelps achieved his seventh gold medal! What will he try for next? The world record in the 15 metres, hands-tied-behind-you-back event? Give me Spitz of 1972, anyday. Human, hairy and with that cute moustache!
* And more to come!

More Thoughts (Part 3)
* Heh guys, a true Brit to compare with all the hot jocks from around the world! Check out gymnast, Louis Smith.......a young man winning bronze in the Pommel Horse discipline today. Hot or Wot? Pheeew!
* Bolt has to be the most stylish sprinter to have graced the track since Carl Lewis. Such a combination of elegance and power.....slim and beautiful too! Personally I think he can be forgiven for "showboating" over the final 15 metres or so. He's young, emotional and talented! Sensational.
* Thank God the swimming is over! Tedious in the extreme; too many events, too many medals, too many world records......and......no speedos!
* Watch out USA! The Brits have arrived! O.K. we may be succeeding in what can perhaps be referred to as "minority" disciplines, but heh, what the hell........it's just so great to see my country up there in the medal table. Roll on 2012!
* P.S. We do have some beautiful bodies in the rowing!
* Sorry to hear about the insensitive tv coverage in the States, by NBC. We are incredibly lucky to have blanket coverage over here in the UK......and the great Michael Johnson commentating in his own inimitable and intelligent manner, on Track and Field. I am overdosing on black coffee and matchsticks (to keep the eyelids open!) throughout the night! More please and thanks BBCTV!

And Yet More Olympic Thoughts!
* Great sympathy for Liu Xiang. A beautiful and handsome man with the ability and potential to make the 110 metres hurdles final, against Robles, a memorable and sensational race. I was near to tears watching his emotional and physical breakdown. "Get off his back" Chinese public. Like Cathy Freeman in Sydney 2000, you were placing intolerable pressure and expectation on his young shoulders!
* Sad to see that hunk of athletics beauty, Clement, messing up the tenth and final hurdle in the 400 metres final. Great to see the States gain a clean sweep however. Clement must have THE most attractive cheekbones in Athletics. Nice to watch that beautiful South African hurdler too.....Louis Van Zyl.
* Trammell, Spearmon, the long and triple jumpers........yet more examples of the stresses and pressures placed on the American athletes to qualify for the team? Trammell, Gay and Spearmon surely carrying injuries from the trials and the long and triple jumpers performing way, way below their potential. Sad to see. The selection process needs serious re-assessment.
* Congratulations Godfrey Mokoena! Not only do you look horny and handsome, but you long jump with such commitment and power! Impressive! Wonderful to see you take the silver medal. Check out the two Cubans in the top six too! Hot stuff!
* Wariner and Merritt qualified with ease in the 400 metres. Should be one helluva battle between them for the two major medals. Watch out for Brit Martin Rooney! An outsider for bronze and a real "looker!" Check the facial hair........Mmmmm!
* Robles is a horny hurdler too........strange that he looks totally different and more the intellectual/boffin, when he wears his spectacles! Prefer the contact lenses Dayron!
* Thank you Track and Field for some memorable moments and sensational studs!

Even More!
* Usain Bolt looked so smooth, relaxed and super-confident in his 200 metres semi-final. Fantastic comparison with the struggling, "eye-balls-out" Shawn Crawford in the next lane to him. He is a genius.
* Great to see both Merritt and Wariner recording 44.1 seconds in their 400 metres semi-finals. Surely setting up a superb final. Go boys!
* God, that incessantly annoying music between the points of the Beach Volleyball!! A place for everything and everything in its place!.........Surely?
* Terrific High Jump competition. Surprise silver for the Brit, Germaine Mason.
* Keep up the good work, Beijing!

And yet more thoughts!
* Cannot think of any other epithets that have not already been used in praise of Usain Bolt! Awesome talent and magnificent package! But seriously, a great shame to see Michael Johnson's world record broken, but it couldn't be achieved by a more gifted sprinter! He has set the bar for sprinting achievement at an incredible new height! Wow!
* Sorry to see Wallace Spearmon disqualified in the 200 metres final. Not only did he look as stunning as ever (and with a new and very attractive haircut!) but he also proved to be the best of the Americans. However, Wallace, maybe if you spent less time sucking on your bling and concentrating on the lane markers, then immature mistakes such as the one that led to your disqualification, would not occur! A pity!
* Nelson Evora won the triple jump showing both the amazing talent he has and that truly sexy package! Handsome face too! He really is a championship-performer and really did stun my own nation's favourite Phillips "red hair" Oduwo! Great competition!
* Jeremy Wariner!!!!! What happened? You saved your worst perfromance in years for this prostigious final! Were you ill, injured or just plain-frightened by the sight of Lashawn Merritt cruising past you? A real disappointment and shock! However, Lashawn is a magnificent specimen of athletic talent and with that crushingly-handsome face, was a worthy champion. Clean sweep for the States too!
* Well both the American and British sprint-relay teams bowed out of the competition with disqualifications! I really do not need to say any more. However, it is so obvious that you simply cannot throw in your four best sprinters and just "hope for the best!" This has happened to both nations before in international competition, particularly the Americans. Maybe a little humility and reading of the baton-passing textbook might be useful! Deprives the final of two of the favouites squads......but hell, well done to those quartets who can work as teams and get that baton safely around the track!
* Wonderful to see that "looker" Clay competing in the Decathlon. He is a "radiant" beauty! He leads after the first day by some margain and I just hope he will continue to grace our tv screens tomorrow as he heads for his first Olympic gold medal. Go Clay!
* Does anyone else agree with me that Cuba provides some of the most handsome and sexy athletes in the world? The hurdler Robles, their long-jumper Martinez, their triple-jumpers and decathletes. Get me a one-way ticket to Havana!
* Talking of Robles.........love the man! Those cute spectacles, intellectualising his appearance, being balanced by his very sexy body and package and that incredible hurdling elegance and talent. Would still have loved to have seen him cometing against Liu Xiang in the final but his dominance of the event was pretty fantastic.
* Need a long cool drink after all that "hot" viewing! Thank you Track and Field and Beijing for making my day!

And still two more days to go!
Gonna suffer mightily from withdrawl symptoms when these Games are over! Thank God for the IAAF Website and Outsports of course. They will no doubt keep the flag flying with amazing photographs of amazing athletes.
* Jamaica's young men!!!!! YES! Your sprint relay victory was totally awesome. O.K. so your baton passing was mediocre and you did not have the States there to compete with and against you.....but shaving 0.3 from the world record was a sensational achievement. So happy for Asafa Powell too! Wonderful to see his ability and courage rewarded with a gold medal as well as a world record. Terrific photo of him on the IAAF Website. A beautiful man indeed.
* Congratulations to Bryan Clay. You were dominant throughout the Decathlon and thoroughly deserved the vistory. There are some fantastic photos of the man from Finneye elsewhere on the Outsports Website. Bryan is a super-hero. Shame Hardee no-heighted in the Pole Vault but surely his time will come. Welcome to London 2012 Trey!
* The 4 x 400 Relay is shaping up for a superb climax to the track programme with only about 1 second separating all eight qualifying teams. The States should win it (when they include Wariner and Merritt in the final four) but the battle for the remaining two medals should be pretty hot!
* Thanks once again to superb Outsports members Sportinlife and Finneye who continue to grace the site's pages with top-quality photographs. Beautiful men such as American sprinter Darvis Patton and Iranian Decathlete Hadi Sepehrzad featured in Finneye's photstream today. Excellent!
* Well done gay Australian diver Matthew Mitcham for qualifying for the final of the 10m Highboard final. Not only are you a superb athlete and "looker" but you are a role-model for all gay men. Do so hope you "medal" ........ you deserve it for your ability and personal courage! Go Matthew!
* Saw that French Decathlete and gay-friendly hunk, Romain Barras achieved a season's best in the Decathlon, but sadly, not a place in the top eight or so. However, keep up your support of all things gay and continue to be a truly attractive man!
Another day comes, another day goes!
Isn't it superb to be gay and enjoy sport!
Thanks Outsports for the opportunity to express my love for both of the above!

The 4x400 final could be a barn-burner, as well as a bonanza for NBC even at those ungodly hours, if the Jamaicans decide to put in Usain Bolt as they have supposedly "threatened".
Imagine Wariner, Merritt, and Bolt in the same race.
I sympathize with your withdrawal symptoms Superman after these Olympics, but what will you do four years from now: OD before the end?
Heard a comedian joking on the BBC that they should have a theme that credits all of the medals won by GB's ex-colonies to the motherland. That would insure that the hometeam would dominate the medal competition.

And in conclusion!
Will still stay awake to watch the Marathon tomorrow morning........
.........however........
* All hail Matthew Mitcham! A superb gold! And what a sensational final dive to win the competition. My heart goes out to this guy! Talented, Gay and Proud! You are a credit to the human race and to Gay sportsmanship. Congratulations-Plus!
* Thanks for the comments Sportinlife. Always good to hear from you. Have no fear......I am no jingoist! the UK try their best.......in fact, check the overall medal table! Our best ever haul? However, in Track and Field we frequently flatter to deceive and our exploits in Beijing will have the detectives and investigators out in numbers, checking out our very poor performance. But heh, the USA has also not had the greatest of Track success as well. Congratulations to Jamaica though! For a small island, they have truly shown their worth and in doing so have set the standards-bar, far higher than ever......most certainly in the sprints. Our previous colonies (God how I hate that description!) have shown us all that it is the talent and the mettle of the man that eventually succeeds, not the tradiition. history nor restrictive nature of Imperialism! And heh, Sportinlife, thanks for the photo of Asafa on another page. I agree, he is a very sexy man.
* Sad that Bolt did not run in the 4x400. But who can blame him. The guy must be shattered! But all power to the great USA team and so pleased that Jeremy won his gold medal! He will be back.........no doubt about it. Great to see UK pin-up boy, Martin Rooney (he is a beautiful guy!) run 43.7 seconds for his final leg. He will be one to watch for a whole range of reasons, in London 2012! Good to see John Steffenson in the Oz team. Sadly, way off form but hopefully back next year to his Commonwealth-winning best.
* Sorry that Outsports's incredibly talented photographic-contributor, Finneye's handsome Finnish Javelin thrower. Pitkamaki, could not bring home the gold. Third place was very disappointing .....and to be beaten by another Scandanavian! Hmmmmmm! Great looker though!
* Overall, a superb Olympics, particularly Track and Field. Feel very strongly that the "spread" of medals and success grows even wider and deeper........and quite rightly so. The traditional pattern of the USA, Russia, the UK and Germany dominating events is now long gone and I for one am very happy with this more creative scenario. So, bring on London 2012 ......with great, sporting successes and achievements, an even wider spread of national success in all events, and even more beautiful sportsmen to grace the tracks, fields, pools, beaches, boards and ranges of the Olympic celebration.
*.......Oh, and thank you Beijing!

My observations:
US coverage continues to stink -- it is only focused on marquee events (swimming, track and field, gymnastics, women's beach volleyball -- if the women have to wear bikinis, why are the men allowed to wear shirts? Seems very un-beach like). Events not shown (or barely even mentioned) on US prime time coverage on NBC: judo/taekwondo/boxing/wrestling/soccer (football)/heptathlon/pentathlon/equestrian/canoeing/kayak/discus/hammer/rifle events/sailing, I'm sure there are others. Of course, NBC has spread coverage out among several of its channels and they are showing something like 1300+ hours of broadcasts across their five or six channels, but I was home during some of the games and I couldn't manage to see much variety.
I could never attend a beach volleyball game. That four seconds of music between each point strikes me as a bit manic and overbearing.
Michael Phelps is amazing, and congrats to the Aussie diver. Well done.
The Chinese gymnasts are definitely underage.
What happened to some of the great sports legacies? Romania and Russia used to completely dominate womens gymnastics. Japan always got a medal or two in the men's events. German running is pure crap now, not at all like the Cold War days when the East Germans were a major threat on the track (doping? steroids?) and what happened to their swimmers? Good to see the Jamaicans and other countries come out as sprinting powerhouses and to see African countries haul in some medals.
GBR is having a spectacular games -- great medal counts. Australia, too.
One last observation: Bob Costas has one of the least convincing dye jobs around. Shoe polish brown. Ick.

And........some final reflections.
* A sensational Games. We in London have a lot to live up to. By the way, thought the UK's contribution to the Closing Ceremony was a little lacking in subtlety and style, to say the least! However, we will go for it and do our very best.
* Congratulations China on hosting and delivering a superb celebration. O.K. I know there are many political and social issues, hiding behind the colourful facade, but since when has this not happened? No doubt the streets of London will be "cleansed" of the hundreds of people living rough in the metropolis, perehaps the fantastic amount of graffiti and general unclean appearance of buildings, roads and streets in the city will be addressed, hopefully all the youth knife-crime will cease......and so on, and so forth! But heh, we all love sport and beautiful men. No doubt our Games in 2012 will support and present both. As a sporting spectacular, Beijing did the business.
* Performance of the Games? Well, for me, Usain Bolt's triple Gold medal races, each of which presented him with world records. Some performer, some athlete! Followed closely by Matthew Mitcham's diving Gold. O.K. I see that there is a lot of Outsport's page-space being devoted to his win and many views being discussed and issues raised.........but hell, let's celebrate......here is a young man, proud to be Gay and proud to have the God-given talent to win a major Olympic event. That's it! That's all! We can all be proud of him! Go fot it Matthew!
* Disappointments? Some! The poor showing of both the UK and the USA in Track and Field. A case of "flattering to deceive" perhaps? Or a lack of awareness that other nations are catching up on the traditional strongholds of the sport? Whatever, things will never be the same again!
* Annoyances? The Beach Volleyball........totally and utterly. What a waste of space!
* Men? Well this has to be the finest Games for showing the widest and deepest array of stunning male beauty. I could list hundreds, but the following are close to my heart!
Gymnasts: Louis Smith (UK) and Tomita (Japan), Swimming: Mark Foster (UK), Track & Field:Jeremy Wariner, Lashawn Merritt, Nelson Evora, Godfrey Mokoena, Felix Sanchez (even if only for a few seconds!), Darvis Patton, Bryan Clay, Dayron Robles, Martin Rooney, Asafa Powell.........etc.
* Hopes? : That more Gay athletes "come-out" before 2012 and perform to their true potential and that 2012 is as peaceful a celebration as 2008.
* Lasting memory? : Nelson Evora's package!!!! Just joking! Bolt's 100 metres win. I have viewed many track and field competitions and excellent performances, but this one was from another planet and from another time! I was totally in awe!
* Here's to London 2012!
