Phoenix is a new city this year with a small team, and we've already been plagued by the injury bug, which can really kill a small team. We have a guy out with a pinched siatic(sp.) nerve, one down with a broken clavicle, and one out with a badly sprained ankle. Another one is probable with a thumb injury.
At this point, I'm telling the guys to not ride in the same car with each other or fly on the same plane.

I am on the SuperBowl board...let me know if you guys need any info.
Good Luck everyone! Can't wait to meet all of you all on Thursday!

Damn...Can we resead the teams? Think I'd rather play Phoenix the first game rather than the Sharks...
I am sure SD Sharks will be loaded with speed and talent on both sides of the ball, hopefully we can keep up with you guys...
It will be a measuring stick of where our team is going this weekend.

It was great to connect with so many Outsporters at the Gay Super Bowl this weekend! And, many of us did very well!
Jim and Brent's team (L.A.) went 3-0 in the round robin play; and Jim played a great tournament, as always!! They lost to the eventual runners-up in the playoffs.
Stinger's team (Phoenix) went 2-1 in round robin play (beating my team, 19-18, in the opening game) and lost to the event champions (Chicago) in the playoffs.
My team (New York) also went 2-1 and made it to the semifinals before losing to the champs, 32-27. I was blown away to be honored on the all-tournament defensive team. There were TONS of great players out there (hell, there were several worthy on my team alone) and it was a real honor to be recognized.
Ken from Dallas' team went 2-1 and were the #3 seed until losing to my team in the quarterfinals.
Kurt's San Diego team took the consolation bracket championship!! His and my team played a PHENOMENAL game on Friday, with my team winning, 13-12 on an interception return.
Did I miss any Outsporters' teams?
Oh, and yes, Philly Fan is a nice guy ... when he's not sitting in front of a computer wink

Thanks to all the organizers of the tournament for a great job and very enjoyable time. Adding to the authenticity, what football game wouldn't be complete w/o some lousy reffing? We even had overpriced food, just like at Qualcomm and Petco! wink
Nice seeing you again, Jim and LAMotion teammates, Cyd & Brent! Congrats to Curtskaya and his fellow SDiegans for their win, and Philly Fan, I can't believe we didn't get to meet! "There's always tomorrow;" remember, "it's morning in America!"

And huge kudos to Will and his Chicago team which won it all. Will was terrific both as a player and a person.
Chicago won the playoff round by beating Phoenix, New York and Atlanta. They went 5-1 overall.
My LA team did great. We beat Atlanta, Chicago and Salt Lake, then lost a rematch to Atlanta in the playoffs, 33-28, in a thriller. Me, sore knees and all, ran for 4 TDs in 4 games, which shocked my own team as well as the opposition (think Drew Bledsoe, only slower!)
Cyd had a terrific interception vs. SD that won the game for NYC.
It was also great to see the Outsports regulars both on and off the field. Hard to beat playing football on Coronado Island.

Jim...
Thanks for the GayBowl updates. I'm very excited that Chicago took home a championship. They have worked hard and wanted this for a few years now (Chicago actually took TWO teams this year, the only city other than host city to do so).
You are right about Will. He is not only a great all-around athlete and coach, but a terrific person as well....and super sweet to boot.
GayBowl seems to get bigger and better every year. Next year's GayBowl will be part of the Chicago Gay Games - this should make for a very exciting and spectacular GayBowl!!

We will have a full report this week and also a photo gallery soon. They had a wet underwear contest ($500 prize) and it was won by a straight player from Salt Lake City who has two identical twin brothers who are gay. He was one of the coolest people I met all weekend.

Heh, seems I was operating on Central Time the entire time, I don't feel sleepy anymore and I'm waking up at "normal" hours now. LOL
Anyhow, was great finally getting to meet you all in San Diego, especially the OutSports GODS Jim and Cyd.
Cyd, I hope there wasn't a problem with my reffing your game vs. Atlanta on Saturday then turn around and play in the elimination portion on Sunday. If it makes you feel any better, I hardly played in the game vs. NYC
And I think the Wet Underwear contest was fixed....letting a straight boy win it. Travesty!!! The guy that got 2nd should have won it, IMHO. Then again, it was my Texas Bulls teammate, Luke.
And one other note......Sure, the SD Sharks won the B Division championship, but which team was it that let the Alabama Slammers score on them?

I want a recount!
No problem at all! We have to assume impartiality on the part of the refs. Besides, if anything, Atlanta losing that game to us HELPED your team. No worries!!!

Just curious, how did it help us out?
Honestly, I was SHOCKED that we had #3 seed in the A Division. But when you think about it, if we hadn't beaten the SD Shredders 13-12, or just simply put, we don't score the 2 point conversion, we end up in the B Division bracket. But personally, I would have loved to have played at least 2 games on Sunday as opposed to just 1-and-done, and nearly getting shut out by you guys. We probably would have done pretty well in the B Division. Luck of the draw, I guess. Oh well.
At any rate, Jere Becker and I will be getting together with the rest of our team tomorrow evening and will start working on the tournament here in Dallas. I'll keep you posted.

Yes Illini, it will be pretty cool...especially given that flag football is EXTREMELY popular in Chicago - we have the largest gay league in the world! And Montreal is not offering flag football, so there will be no division at least in THAT sport.
Also, the IGLA Championships (the yearly International Gay and Lesbian Aquatics Championship) will also be incorporated as part of the Gay Games. Last year's championship was in Atlanta and the year prior Ft. Lauderdale. If you've never witnessed a prior IGLA Champinships they are amazing in many ways. <wink wink> Actually, I enjoy the Pink Flamingo competition the most, it is quite entertaining.
edited to include IGLFA - gay soccer championships
Sorry, I missed this one. Gay Games will also be the host city for next year's IGLFA Championships for soccer.

Thank you so much for your comments after the game...much appreciated guys.
My team is still recovering from the weekend, hopefully we have enough players to suit up this saturday for our league.
Jim...you still have our lunch money. Guess you own our team...for some reason we cant beat you guys.
Cyd...you have a strong team, I would not want to play you again.

He is like a brother to me, we have a small group that gets together during the winter and when his turn to cook, he can tear it up in the kitchen as well. Everyone in the group hates it when my turn is up because they know its PIZZA.
Chris played great for us this weekend with a bum leg.

There's one guy from that Chicago team that I was totally lusting after, just never had the guts to go talk to him. He is a taller guy, about 6'4" maybe, but he had the most adorable face. He was #6 if I recall.
My friend Chris Vernald, from the Chicago Crew, told me he was single. Can any of you from Chicago Flames shed some light on this for me?

Will was the player of the tournament, for sure. Our game with Chicago was incredibly hard-fought; the intensity was SO high, and we loved it; I know his guys did, too. Will, you played your ass off - as one of the people who helped build this tourney, it's great to see you win the title!

Cyd, you kind of nailed it. The intensity of this tournament was HIGH all weekend long. The competition was great. So many 2-1 and 1-2 teams that beat each other that the parity and competition was amazing. That a #8 seed played in the Championship game is awesome!!
That said...
Will is a great QB and a great guy! It was nice to finally meet him. I'll give myself props that I was one of the few who recorded an INT on him.
The Salt Lake City team had a great team of guys. All of them were a lot of fun and very easy going. They have a lot of good talent and I think they could be a surprise team in next year's tournaments.
Same goes for Cyd and his NYC team. They are a scary team to play.
Jim, and L.A., looked like an offensive force, as always!!
And it looks like DC is to Boston as the Pats are to the Colts.
Home team San Diego Sharks suffered some close losses that were unfortunate. I think they could have wreaked some havoc in the championship bracket.
Unfortunately, I did not get a chance to see much of Texas, Chicago Crew, or San Fran.
I can't wait for next year's tournaments and recruiting a fuller team from Phoenix.
