EAST CLEVELAND, Ohio (AP) -- A doctor says U.S. Rep. Stephanie Tubbs Jones, D-Ohio, is in critical condition and has limited brain function following a hemorrhage. Tubbs Jones, the first black woman to represent Ohio in Congress, collapsed while driving her car Tuesday.

Dr. Gus Kious says the 58-year-old Tubbs Jones suffered a brain hemorrhage in an inaccessible part of her brain and that a team of doctors who evaluated her determined she has limited brain function. At a news conference, family friend Joe Hewitt asked people to pray for the congresswoman. An early supporter of Hillary Clinton, Tubbs Jones announced she was backing Barack Obama in June and is still slated to be a superdelegate at next week's Democratic National Convention.

EDITED TO CHANGE THE THREAD'S TITLE. Wow. What a tragedy.

Yeah I was just watching this unfold on CNN and its a real shame. Sounds like if she does survive she could be in very much of an incapacitated state, whether conscious or unconscious. I've said it before...we are all walking time bombs. A seemingly healthy woman has a brain hemorrhage and bam...she could possibly die. There were conflicting reports that she had passed away, but the news conference held refuted that. Still...last I heard she was in critical and unstable condition. Prayers go out to her. She was a HUGE Clinton supporter and received much criticism for doing so, but her accomplishments in Congress and representation for her district are what people should be remembering her by. I've already gone onto other blogs and seen people write very insensitive things suggesting that karma got her for supporting Hillary. How ignorant. We all have the right to choose who we want to support, and not every black person has to support Obama. Anyway...I hope she somehow pulls through because I always found her to be a tell it like it is kind of woman. I appreciated her opposition to some of Bush's ridiculous policies.

In a perfect world she might have been the perfect VP candidate for Obama. But race would have been one of many barriers to that.

A really surprise pick for him would be someone from the house of representatives who shares his ideas but is unafraid to disagree constructively with him.
