Cleveland definitely showed up tonight. Looks like New York tried to climb down the beanstalk and got cut down to size. laugh.gif

The Giants' defense was horrendous last night! And offense was pretty woeful, as well. Coughlin, who always looks disgusted, looked particularly so last night. I guess I answered my question. The Browns stopped the Giants!
George Twins fan
ESPN is reporting that Pacman Jones has been suspended at least 4 games (according to crawl on ESPN) or indefinitely (according to crawl on ESPNews). So the news just gets worse for the Cowboys.
Joe in Philly
The Cowboys have also acquired WR Roy Williams from Detroit for 1st, 3rd and 6th-round picks in the 2009 draft. Isn't this going to cut down on the number of throws T.O. gets? I'd expect some more drama there.
George Twins fan
Roy Williams is good but worth a 1st, 3rd and 6th rounder? Me thinks not.
Joe in Philly
Okay, does this make any sense? The Outsports Clubhouse profile featured on the home page is this guy, whose favorite teams are the Cowboys and Eagles. This is simply irrational. You can not like both teams! rolleyes.gif
Joe in Philly
The team everyone anointed the NFC's representative in the Super Bowl is now 4-3 after being destroyed by the Rams. I had the Cowboys' radio broadcast on for awhile (through Sirius satellite radio) and a sideline reporter said that Brooks Bollinger was warming up. The guys in the booth asked if his helmet was on or off, they were told that he was wearing a baseball cap and he was throwing to T.O., to which one of the guys replied something like "at least someone's throwing to him today." laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif

Maybe he's a BC graduate? biggrin.gif

I thought maybe one of those could've been a college team but the profile doesn't list any college sports, while it specifically lists the NFL.

This is the first time in 4 weeks that I've been home to watch the Eagles (2 weeks of softball involvement and last week's bye). They did look better at times and won. They actually ran the ball! They scored a TD on a QB draw! And later, even tried a QB sneak from the 1 -- it failed, but at least they tried it!! But, they got a huge break. After the McNabb sneak failed they settled for a FG to make it 20-7, and then allowed the Falcons to march down the field and score to make it 20-14, then went three-and-out on offense. On the ensuing punt, the officials rules the Falcon returner muffed it, and it was recovered by the Eagles. Replays clearly showed there was no muff, the ball bounced and it was untouched by the Atlanta player. But the Falcons couldn't challenge the call because they were out of timeouts and there was just over 2 minutes left (when it would've been a booth review).

Tough gutty win by the Giants this afternoon in Pittsburgh.

They were hurt early by some terrible officiating, but for the last 3 quarters (except for one 65yd TD), there defense was spectacular.

Manning was disappointing and Jacobs had a difficult time getting the ground attack going, but the Giants just kept battling.

finally, when the time was right, Toomer came up with a big catch and then Manning had a solid drive for the game winning TD to Boss.

Amazing that the whole NFC east won today. It's going to be tough to make headway in this division until the head-to-head matchups start. A monumental one is next week, when the Giants take on Dallas.

not pretty, but a huge win tonight. offense did nothing for first three quarters, but made the big plays when it mattered most.

kudos to the defense for keeping them in the game.

re: manning. if he was disappointing, big ben was bad. 4 interceptions and 4 sacks.
MetsfanChi
Santana, it was 5 sacks.

But holy epic defense, batman! That was incredible, 4 INTs! 4! That's crazy! Not to mention Kenny Phillips with his first.
Joe in Philly
Pittsburgh is unbeaten except when they play the NFC East, the toughest division in the NFL.
Munson Man
Wow, the Giant and Steeler defenses were both outstanding yesterday. The difference came down to Eli getting the job done when he had to - that long pass to Amani Toomer on fourth down was suh-weet!!
phillyrunner
The Eagles moved out of the cellar of the NFC east with a solid performance by McNabb, Seleck and Akers. The defense held Seattle to 7 seven points. Oh and a shout-out to the Giants at least for this week ,for putting Dallas back in last place.
Joe in Philly
After that 90-yard TD pass on the very first play, the Eagles defense was excellent, except it was against a pitiful Seattle team. And the offense was barely competent after a similarly dreadful start. That type of effort won't cut it next week against the Giants.

I'm beginning to wonder if the return of Romo, presumably in the first game after the Dallas bye week, will be enough for them.
BigBlueCowboy
The Eagles might have had a good game, but the Giants are still out in front. We'll see how the Eagles fare against Big Blue! wink.gif

Did anyone watch Pittsburgh run all over Washington last night? Now that was a fun game to watch! The Steelers' defense was amazing. Poor Jason Campbell...7 sacks. Was sorry that Heath Miller was taken out of the game. Like watching him play...then again, I'd like watching him read the phone book! biggrin.gif

GIANTS WIN!
phillyrunner
I am so disgusted with Andy Reid's decision making. From two challenges, one of which should have never been called, to calling two run plays on 3rd and 4th down with time running down. This is not a team with a power running game. Pass plays were needed or McNabb had to do something on his own.

After 10 years perhaps is time for him to go.
Joe in Philly
I hope the post-game quotes from the Eagles players and coaches aren't all about how good a team they are even though they're 5-4, and if they got a good break here and there or whatever, blah blah blah. They clearly are a mediocre team. Their defense was shredded most of the night. The offense, while it does well at times, is hampered by inconsistency, mistakes, mismatched personnel playing a one-dimensional scheme that can go high-octane with fancy passing setups but can't grind out yardage via the running game when needed, and above all, incompetent playcalling at crucial moments. With 3 losses in the division and 4 losses in the conference, a 10-6 record will surely not win any tiebreakers. They're going to have to win 6 of the last 7, and with only one apparent gimme, next week against the Bengals.
Jim at Outsports
I was going to rip the Eagles in my weekly write-up, but Tony and JIP saved me the trouble! They said it better than I could. 3rd and 3 and you do 2 runs??????? ohmy.gif
Munson Man
I know a win is a win, but for the second week in a row Big Blue escaped with a sloppy win simply because they were playing mediocre competition. There've been a few too many fumbles and INT's the past couple of weeks. Luckily the defense, while not spectacular, has bent but not broken, and they were helped yesterday by inept play calling and a really bizarre used challenge. But, as I said a win is a win, and the Giants really are in control in the NFC East right now. If the Eagles could stop the running game last night might still have been different, but 200+ rushing yards by Jacobs, Ward and Bradshaw is tough to beat.

It was a sloppy mess last night. But who's missing Tiki Barber (who really is pretty mediocre on "Today") and Jeremy Shockey?

Let's see how they do against Baltimore next week. They've won their past 4 games.

GIANTS WIN!

Yes it is time for Andy Reid to look for another coaching job. Here he is in his 10th season and after every loss he says the same thing over and over such as " the blame falls on me and I have to do a better job at coaching" and yet he still calls the same stupid plays in close games and as an avid Eagles fan, I'm sick of it! To make matters worse, Donovan McNabb still gets criticized and it's mainly because the receivers constantly drop passes that his numbers as a quarterback are not that spectacular. The Eagles need to get some coaches that will bring some top notch receivers to the team because good receivers make a good quarterback because they have to catch the ball without dropping it all the time.

Oops, my bad! This one is for philly runner at post #71. Sorry!
phillyrunner
Pathetic is the only way to describe today's tie between the Eagles and the Bengals. McNabb had one of his worst outings, with four turnovers, three of which were INTs. Even with 339 yards passing only 13 points were scored. It didn't help that the ground game was vitually non-existent. The rest of the season looks bleak if the Eagles play like they did today.

What Andy says: "I have to do a better job of putting guys in a position to make plays..."
What I hear: "Blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah..."

It's not all on the receivers. McNabb is making some horrendous throws. But the fact is, they need to be able to run the ball and right now they can't. On the post-game show on Comcast they pointed out that the Eagles were 3-for-18 converting third downs, and they threw the ball on every single play.

I was rooting for the tie when it got to overtime. If ever two teams both deserved to lose a game, this was it.

What's really amazing is that (also from the post-game show) a number of the players were unaware that games can end in ties. McNabb even said as much in his press conference. He (and others) apparently thought that they'd go to a second overtime, and McNabb said something like "I'd hate to see what happens in the Super Bowl or playoffs if they end a game with a tie." What. The. f**k? Are these players that dense???

As I said, they need 11 wins to get to the playoffs because they're behind a lot of other teams in tiebreakers. I don't think even 10-5-1 can do it, unless that one loss is to Baltimore or Cleveland and not in a division or conference game.

Add another W for the Gmen. Anyone else think we're the best in the NFL, cause I sure think we are.

Reid should have been gotten rid of a long time ago!

And McNabb just does not have a good crew to work with him.

Don't want to start anything, but Coughlin and Manning are examples of how a team can be guided and led!

CBS was gracious enough to show the game in Minneapolis today and boy was I glad to watch.

The three-headed monster is virtually unstoppable and the defense and Manning make plays when necessary.

All year all the critics say "well the Giants schedule is weak". well we've beaten Pittsburgh and Philly on the road and now Dallas and Baltimore at home. Those are more worthy opponents and they were all pretty sweat victories.

3 game division lead with 6 to play!

Tennessee hasn't lost yet. I think that still surprises people, especially since they're winning with Kerry Collins at QB, so I imagine the majority opinion is that the Giants are the best.
MetsfanChi
I would love to see the Giants battle the Titans.

If we can do 200+ rushing yards against the #1 run defense, I'd like to see what we can do against them.
Joe in Philly
The McNabb era is over! laugh.gif
MetsfanChi
What's that, another WIN for the Giants? You, betcha!
Munson Man
Big Blue looked impressive today, especially on offense, even though there were too many silly penalties. Eli was excellent, and the offensive line just took over the game. The Giants pretty much scored at will, even though Brandon Jacobs was out, and Plaxico Burress played only the first drive.

postgame interview of madison hedgecock, re: his TD celebration.

he's so cute.
phillyrunner
After today's Eagles debacle, I agree that the McNabb era may be over. But the question remains is that really enough to make this team good again? I think the Reid era should be over as well. His dual role as coach and GM have shown he can't do both effectively anymore. Personally, losing the rest of the games would be fine with me if that means getting a higher draft pick and someone other than Andy Reid doing the picking. Perhaps we can offer a package deal of coach and QB for whatever best offer is out there.
George Twins fan
Moronic douchebag Plaxico Burress accidentally shot himself in the leg. Ironic in that he usually shoots himself in the foot. Injury is not life-threatening but I can't imagine he'll play anytime soon. A real blow to the Giants.

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3733021
Joe in Philly
They're not saying exactly what happened. It's not known if he accidentally shot himself or if someone else accidentally shot him.

If you're not a cop or something, stay away from those guns, Plaxico.
phillyrunner
What is it with these big burly NFL players and their need to own a piece. If they claim needing a gun for self defense, has any one of them ever sucessfully defended themselves with the use of a gun?
BigBlueCowboy
The Giants will be better off without the off-field distractions caused by this man.

What was he doing with a gun? Who knows? The guy has no common sense, though.
George Twins fan
And now the report has changed back to him shooting himself and with teammate Antonio Pierce trying to dispose of/hide the gun. If he didn't have a permit for the gun, he could be in a whole lot of trouble not just with the Gianst and the NFL but also with the law.
Joe in Philly
NY Post headlines...

Front page: GIANT IDIOT! Pinhead Plaxico shoots self in leg
Article headline: GIANT JERK SHOOTS HIMSELF/BURRESS FUMBLES GUN AND NAILS LEG

laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif

The story outlined here is just astounding. Let's sum up:

Burress shows up at the club with a loaded gun. Security turns him away, but management decides to allow him in anyway. He gets his drink on quickly, and security escorts him to the VIP area, and the gun slips and goes off when he tries to secure it. Instead of calling 911 (after all, he's got a gun and no permit) he goes home and bleeds for a couple of hours before finally going to the hospital. Meanwhile, Pierce takes the gun and hides it in New Jersey. The cops only find out about it because someone from the Giants organization called them. They go to Burress's house and his wife won't let them in. Pierce heads to DC for today's game, and his lawyer says Pierce will cooperate only if he's not charged with anything.

The combination of sleaze and stupidity here is off the charts!
Munson Man
Burress will surrender tomorrow and be charged with illegal possesion of a firearm. He plans to plead not guilty. Of course, if he's not guilty how'd he get shot? rolleyes.gif

Big Blue should just cut him. They're not missing him at all. They pretty much dominated the Redskins on the road today, and Eli threw for more yards than he has all year. Plaxico Who???
mets57
i wouldn't really call it a big blow to the giants. giants have been winning without the idiot burress. they've been the best team without osi, strahan, shockey. jacobs has been injured too. they'll be fine.

i want plaxico out of new york.

looks like antonio pierce might be in trouble too. he hid plaxico's gun. wow, these guys are really idiots.

domenik hixon has stepped up. i'll take him over plaxico anytime. it's ovah. it's not worth it.
BigBlueCowboy
I'm with Bloomberg on this one. Burress should receive the mandatory 3 1/2 year sentence if convicted. Burress is a complete and utter moron. And Pierce is not far behind him. The night club should lose its liquor license for knowingly allowing someone with a gun onto their premises. The Hospital should be accountable for not reporting a gunshot wound. And the NY Giants and the NFL are at fault for not reporting this incident as quickly as possible. The Police heard about it via TV reports.

The loss of Pierce would be detrimental to the Giants. But if he played any part in covering this up, he should pay the consequences. Yesterday, when interviewed on WFAN, Pierce called the situation "tragic." He's a fool. It would have been tragic, if Plaxico shot someone other than himself!
mets57
plaxico's done for the season. he's like a cancer that has been removed.

good riddance.
Joe in Philly
The Eagles defense, until the last minute of play, totally dominates the Giants, and run and run (41 run plays to 31 pass plays) and win the game. I'm totally shocked, but then again, I'm not. The Eagles have done this before -- waste opportunity after opportunity week after week, and then do things right like they did today.
