I think Couric is doing a fine job and this might be a turning point in her career, but it's not like she's doing a hard core interrogation on Palin. This could just as well be a Today Show segment. Palin just butchers every question and talks in circles. Give Katie credit for keeping her cool and not spewing coke or something during the answers. It's got to be hard to keep a straight face during some of that drivel.

Palin should be on the SNL payroll as a writer during all of this. All they have to do is have Tina Fey watch the tape and just repeat it on Saturday night.

I do worry that the bar has now been set so low, that Palin only need show up in the vicinity of a podium and appear cognizant of her surroundings to be declared a success.

There is great polling news in state polls for Obama. In polls released today, Obama has taken his biggest leads yet in 3 key states: Florida, Ohio and Pennsylvania. He's also gone over the critical 50% mark in all 3. Early voting is currently going on in two of them as well so the fact that Obama is pulling away comes at a critical time. Since 1960, no candidate has won the presidency without winning at least 2 of these states.

Florida: Obama 51, McCain 43 (Obama +8)
Pennsylvania: Obama 54, McCain 39 (Obama +15)
Ohio: Obama 50, McCain 42 (Obama +8)
hockeyTom
I just read this on MSNBC.COM. It has been said for Obama to win he should have at least 50%, and in these 3 key states, is looking pretty good for the moment. This will also boost his electoral outlook potentially too.

You're absolutely right. Palin is just remarkably moronic. It is amazing that someone like her could advance as far with her complete lack of knowledge of history and current events. Every interview I'm more and more gob-smacked by her inanity.

According to this blog post, she's apparently becoming a larger strain on the McCain campaign. Maybe some are finally seeing the light. The whole idea that she would appeal with women is being debunked.

More on those state polls showing Obama leading by between 8 and 15 points in OH, FL and PA. From the pollster, Quinnipiac University, who conducted the poll:

"It is difficult to find a modern competitive presidential race that has swung so dramatically, so quickly and so sharply this late in the campaign. In the last 20 days, Sen. Barack Obama has gone from seven points down to eight points up in Florida, while widening his leads to eight points in Ohio and 15 points in Pennsylvania," said Peter Brown, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute.

"Sen. John McCain has his work cut out for him if he is to win the presidency and there does not appear to be a role model for such a comeback in the last half century," Brown added.

"Sen. McCain's problem is not with this or that demographic group. Although he still leads among white men, albeit by a smaller margin than in previous polling, his problems are across the electorate, especially among women, where he now trails Sen. Obama by 18 points. Sen. McCain's support is dropping among all age groups, and his once strong lead among those ages 60 and older has evaporated. Sen. Obama has expanded his lead among the 18-35 age group to almost a 3-to-1 margin."

I'm still skeptical of these polls. I'm just not putting that much stock into them. Thats a hell of a swing, particularly in states like Florida, North Carolina, and Ohio, and I'm just not sure I buy it. Young voters and what I read this morning about him having a 2 to 1 edge in new voters are key to big turnouts on November 4th. But, I'm still weary of the Bradley effect and still don't believe he's pulled ahead that much. I don't know. I think part of it is not wanting to let myself get too excited because I will not be at all surprised if he ends up losing. So, I am just staying with the belief that its about dead even and that I need to continue with vigorously registering people to vote and organizing transportation on November 4th.

But hey...if those polls are correct I agree its crucial that early voting is beginning now.

I don't think any Democrat should be complacent and think this thing is over because the Republicans are going to go to their bag of dirty tricks like they always do. I won't be confident until Barack's inauguration day. But with that said... more new polls came out tonight in key states, and USA Today is using the following headline: "Battlegrounds Breaking Big For Obama"....

Time/CNN state polls show Obama surging to leads as big as 11 points in every battleground state it measured. Those states are Florida, Missouri, Virginia, Nevada and Minnesota. It's no longer just one or two polls showing Obama surging now that we're in the month of October. It's every poll, which has got to be great news. It guarantees nothing, but I would much rather have my candidate of choice roaring to big leads in key states right now than the other way around.

I was watching a commentator talking about how worried the McCain camp is right now because they are having to pour money into states like Indiana and North Carolina, which are states they should've never had to defend this late. McCain's campaign is in major trouble right now.

So Larry Flynt of Hustler is producing a porno with a Sarah Palin look-a-like. Radar magazine has a mock script...it's pretty hilarious!

Though I also posted this in "TV, Music, etc." I think it should be here as well. In a way Sarah Palin performing with The Wasilla Singers is more disturbing than Jeremiah Wright, or even the possible VEEP being blessed by a Kenyan witchdoctor.

Barack Obama dancing with a lesbian on the Ellen DeGeneris show was bad enough (though I'll admit he does at least have rhythm).

But the music industry really should not have to be exposed to this travesty. I speak as a lover of the arts, in all their forms.

The superscript that Palin did the choreography has to be a joke since she is actually out of step on more than one occassion.

Well I suppose until we see "Say it aint so Joe" cut a rug, we really can't make that ultimate decision about whether Governor Palin should be one carcinoma from the White House.

I want to know to whom she's winking and batting her eyes.

Sure her dad and the school kids know something we don't but all those other winks make wonder. What secret message is she sending?

And that batting of the eyelids, isn't that more appropriate in a beauty contest. You betcha Joe Biden's gonna have to "practice up" on that gosh darnit.
hockeyTom
McBush does the same thing though. But, he probably won't tomorrow night, well not towards Barack anyways. He probably won't even acknowledge him again. It could be a MOST interesting debate. I wonder if the Repubs. are already blogging that McBush won. rolleyes.gif rolleyes.gif laugh.gif

So the Chicago Sun Times is reporting that Palin may appear on Saturday Night Live to spoof Tina Fey. Well she has been a comic genius so far so what the hell. And SNL's ratings would be ginormous!

The "hockey mom" will drop the puck for the ceremonial faceoff at the Wachovia Center for the Flyers-Rangers game on Saturday.

I'll be out of town. I hope the crowd will do what I would do if I were there, and boo the hell out of her.
hockeyTom
OMG, that ought to be something! Maybe somebody will throw an octopuss on her head. laugh.gif Can't wait to hear the corwd response when her name is mentioned. By the way, HOCKEY STARTS ON CENTER ICE TOMOOROW too. Oh boy!
Joe in Philly
Even putting aside her lack of qualifications and her sleazy campaign, there's no reason for her to be there. She has no Philadelphia connections. There's no reason for a candidate running for any office to be given such free publicity during their campaign. Clearly this is Ed Snider pushing his preferred candidate.

So I sent a message to them.
Joe in Philly
Got a reply from the Flyers -- from reading the Flyers' newsgroup on Usenet they're sending the same message to everyone who writes:

QUOTE
Thanks for your email. We certainly appreciate your feedback.

As you are aware, the Philadelphia Flyers held a contest for the
ultimate hockey mom. This is not about politics. This is about
recognizing her for bringing attention to the sport of hockey. She has
brought more attention to our sport in the past two months and is being
recognized for her promoting our sport. Her appearance does not mean we
support or do not support her political views.

Your comments are important to us and I will certainly share them with
the organization.

I replied:

QUOTE
With all due respect, your reply is a joke.

She has done NOTHING to bring attention to hockey. No one with a brain takes the "hockey mom" phrase seriously. And as for it not being political, as long as the campaign is going on, EVERYTHING about her is political. To deny that is utter nonsense.

I don't feel the need to spend money on tickets, paraphenalia, etc for a team whose owner so blatantly injects his politics into its sport.
sportinlife
This Hey Sarah Palin video might be an appropriate greeting for her at Wachovia.

Hope they get onto a television show with this.
Joe in Philly
Meanwhile, they're talking on the radio about how the Obama campaign offered to have Obama throw out the first pitch before today's Phillies-Dodgers playoff game...and the Phils turned down the offer. As they should have.
hockeyTom
Correct me if I am wrong, but I understand the owner of the Flyers is a contributor to the GOP.
TheOtherFSU
Three national polls released today all show Obama leading by double digits. Gallup has Obama up 10, Newsweek has him up 11 and Research2000 has him up 12. The Newsweek one is interesting because they don't poll as often as the other two. Newsweek just four weeks ago had the race tied at 46-46, but now show Obama up 52 to 41. Five different polls today show Obama getting over 50 percent of the vote. Fox News has some very bad news for McCain. In the Fox News national poll released today, McCain has dropped to his lowest point yet, garnering only 39 percent of the vote.

So now what? Palin has been exposed for abuse of power as Governor. When the denials and deflections fall flat, does she step down (blaming unfair media coverage)? McCain-Mulligan 08? Huckabee? Romney? Cindy? No, save Cindy for "Drug Czar". biggrin.gif

What a FUBAR Presidential campaign. Is it possible that McCain is even more inept that W?

Bristol's baby's daddy is now a high school dropout. I would think they could pull the resources together for him to at least finish out his senior year in high school. The GOP is always extolling the virtues of responsiblity....I don't think dropping out of high school is very responsible. You would think his future in-laws might help him out.

Ed Snider is chairman of Comcast-Spectacor, which owns the Flyers, Sixers, the arenas (soon to be one arena after they tear down the Spectrum), Comcast Sportsnet, etc. He's a major right-winger.
hockeyTom
Seems Miss HB ( hockey bitch) is now using the wedge issues in her stump speech. Yesterday she was talking about Obama and his abortion stance. What is next Sarah, gay rights? It wouldn't surprise me. They have to be getting close to running out of "issues" to talk about, right? Maybe not. rolleyes.gif Meanwhile, Chris Matthews reported that the highest memebr of the GOP in Virginia was mentioning Osama, along with Obama, and said he was not backing down either.......digusting. mad.gif

They ran out of ideas weeks ago. Now you see the disgusting aftermath of desperation. Nothing reeks worse. The GOP has chosen the worst, most wrong path possible, and I could not be more thrilled. They are attempting to fire up the half-wits of their base, which isn't hard to do. This campaign is reminding me of an episode of "Family Guy" when Lois runs for mayor, and all she has to do to get the crowd riled up is mention "9/11". It worked every time. This race has become comical.

That 'exchange' was, as my Aunt Ginny used to say, "Rude, crude, and unrefined".

However, on the broader scope of the Sarah Palin VP Candidacy, I can't help playing that ole' tune in my head, Patsy Cline sang it I think.......

"Who's Sorry Now?"

And permit me to add, I have NO prayers for that Whore with her wenching broken hip, who lives in Bel Air, CA. I loathe her so.

But I don't loathe Sarah Palin, although, I still consider her to be a domestic terrorist, as she has proven herself to be in every speech she's given since I made my pronouncement.

I find the hateful and racist rhetoric coming out of Palin's mouth far more disturbing than some cartoon.
George Twins fan
Yeah she's going around trying to paint Obama as a terrorist and make people fear the black man and I'm supposed to be offended by a joke? I don't think so. I'm much more offended by her belief and gall that she is somehow qualified to be President of the United States.

I betcha by golly she's made or heard a whole hell of alot more offensive gay jokes in her day.

And it has been confirmed that she will appear on SNL tomorrow night:

QUOTE
The seemingly inevitable is in fact happening.

Sarah Palin is set to pay a visit to NBC's Saturday Night Live this weekend, gracing the stage which for the past several weeks has been pointedly skewering the Republican ticket's vice-presidential hopeful.

Jill Hazelbaker, a spokesperson for John McCain's campaign, confirmed Palin's cameo to the AP, but offered no details as to what, exactly, the governor of Alaska will be doing on the sketch show.

Me, I'd kill to see Palin "play" Tina Fey as a Weekend Update co-anchor. It'd all be very meta.

This Saturday's SNL will be hosted by Josh Brolin, who sends up President Bush in the new Oliver Stone movie W. — and is expected to do same on Studio 8H.

Considering that Lorne Michaels is a McCain supporter and has donated to the McCain campaign, I'm guessing the crowd will be on its best behavior... or else!

Today, an Obama rally in St. Louis drew a police-estimated crowd of 100,000 (ONE HUNDRED THOUSAND). The Obama camp said the crowd was actually between 125,000 and 150,000 and the police typically estimate low, but it's safe to say there were at least 100,000 there. The very conservative Fox/Rasmussen state poll of Missouri came out yesterday and showed Obama in front in that state by 6%. Here are a couple of photos:
