Someone told me that Herbstreit picked the Bowling Green win. What was the reasoning for Pitt being ranked No. 25? The season-ending win vs. WV? I haven't heard much about them. I do know their defensive coordinator left for Auburn.

As best as I can tell, the preseason ranking was based on 1) the win over WVU at the end of last last year, and 2) recent recruiting, especially the RB LeSean McCoy. Of course, they neglected to remember that Wanny (aka The Stache) is still running the show. It's only 1 game, but it (hopefully) looks like another long season over at Rent-a-Stadium U. Speaking of... just how empty was the stadium?

I didn't even pay attention to the crowd. I saw only the last few minutes, when ESPN switched over to it for additional coverage. I still can't believe they were ranked.

Herbstreit also picked the Eastern Carolina win. Say what you want, he does know his stuff.

I can't complain about the first week either.

Stanford beat Oregon State at home, on TV and was, for two days, alone in first place in the Pac-10. wink.gif Oh, and the Axe is still in Palo Alto.

Nebraska managed to hold Western Michigan to 8 yards rushing and the defense was flying all over the place. They still gave up 24 points and are obviously a work in progress, but they at least showed the effort on Saturday.

And since I can't complain about my teams' results, I will complain about me: I stunk it up in the pick 'em!

May I add the following score please? smile.gif

From Piscataway, NJ:

Fresno State 24, Rutgers 7.
That's a big road win for the Bulldogs. Next up: Wisconsin.

Taking a look at the opening weekend results, this was the first time in history that every non-BCS conference posted a win over a BCS conference team in the same weekend.

Utah (MWC) wins at Michigan 25-23
Fresno State (WAC) wins at Rutgers 24-7
East Carolina (C-USA) wins vs. Virginia Tech 27-22
Louisiana Tech (WAC) wins vs. Mississippi State 22-14
Arkansas State (Sun Belt) wins at Texas A&M 18-14
Bowling Green (MAC) wins at Pittsburgh 27-17

The WAC led the non-BCS with 2 wins over the SEC and Big East. The WAC won as many games over BCS conference opponents last weekend as the ACC, Big East and Big Ten combined.
WSU Cougars
Fresno State is looking really good!
