I haven't been on this site for a very long time but was curious if there was a thread to commemorate the final weekend of the soon-to-be-departed Yankee Stadium. I was never a Yankees fan but it's been my favorite stadium to see a game. I met up with some Outsporters a few years back for a couple of games, including one which broke (as I recall) a 13-game losing streak for the Yanks. All good things must end, I guess. Anyone going to any of the games this weekend?

Are they doing all their ceremonies in the pre-game or are they doing things afterwards? If they're doing something afterwards (the way the Phils did with the Vet) they'll be out there past midnight.

I just discovered they were televising the pre-game stuff on ESPN2, even though they're showing the game itself on ESPN. They're still doing NFL highlights on ESPN right now. That's just mixed up.

And if they play by the usual rules the local teams can't televise. On such a special occasion they should waive that exclusivity and let the Yankees do a local telecast.

Now that the crocodile media tears are over, blow it up.

After the game Jeter went out to the mound and addressed the fans. Then the whole team did a lap around the stadium acknowledging the cheers. It was a really nice way to end it, and many of the players stayed on the field even after that taking their own pictures with each other. Everyone seemed to want photos with Jeter, Rivera, Posada and Pettitte, the only remaining players from the '96, '98, '99, '00 champions.

Is this all a George Steinbrenner ego thing?

John Feinstein insinuated as much in the book "In the Black" that I'm reading right now.

Steinbrenner is said to be in the early stages of Alzheimers and has only been to Yankee Stadium once in the past two years. He was not there Sunday night, either. He son has been running the team since December 2006.

I can see (and even endorse) leaving Clemens out of any tributes but how on earth do they completely ignore Joe Torre? that just seemed really petty and juvenile.

Not to mention classless and curious. I didn't agree with everything Torre did during his tenure, but he always conducted himself with class. He desrved better - much better.
