Feel free to wait until the AL Central's remaining game(s) are played, but that won't affect my choices.
AL MVP: Joe Mauer (excellent catchers with a .415 OBP don't come along often)

AL Cy Young: Cliff Lee (Halladay not far behind)
NL Cy Young: Johan Santana (by a hair or less over Lincecum)
AL Rookie: Evan Longoria
NL Rookie: Geovany Soto
AL Mgr: Joe Maddon
NL Mgr: Lou Piniella
AL Most Overrated: Francisco Rodriguez
NL Most Overrated: Ryan Howard

If they do end up voting for Howard, it would just make your head explode. So I'm now rooting for it. Actively. I may bribe some voters.

Actually, it wouldn't make my head explode, because all knowledgeable fans know the BBRAA can go f**k itself. Their awards have always stunk at least half the time (Bob Welch, Terry Pendleton, etc) because 80% of their decision-making is based on looking at wins for pitchers and RBI for hitters. Moronic.
It's getting very weird how Chase Utley keeps being the Most Valuable Phillie year after year and sees a well-publicized Clutch Clutch Clutchy teammate win MVP.

The Internet Baseball Awards (which are NOT picked by Baseball Prospectus, but by an online poll of anyone who wishes to vote -- they generally attract engaged seamhead fans like yours truly) have been announced. MVPs were Pujols and Pedroia (nipping Mauer), Cys Lincecum and Lee, ROYs Longoria and Soto.
http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=8281http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=8282You'll note the non-BBRAA-wisdom of Chase Utley placing 4th in the MVP vote to Ryan Howard's 7th (still too high), and that the ludicrously hyped Carlos Delgado is 5th -- among Mets (16th in the NL, also too high).

MVP's are announced next week. Today's announcement:
NL Cy Young winner, and it's Tim Lincecum of the Giants. I'm a little surprised that Sabathia finished 5th. I didn't think he'd win since he wasn't in the NL for very much of the season, but I thought he'd finish higher.

AL and NL Managers of the Year: Joe Maddon and Lou Piniella.
It's now official: Matt Holliday to Oakland.
QUOTE
Colorado received right-handed reliever Huston Street, lefty starter Greg Smith and promising outfielder Carlos Gonzalez from the A’s. The clubs reached a tentative agreement Monday, but had to wait for the results of physicals and other details to be worked out.
If you subscribe to the view that Holliday's success is very much in part because of the numbers he puts up at Coors Field, what is he going to do in 2009 in the A's cavernous park? And are the A's going to try to sign him to an extension, or trade him before the 2009 deadline, or just let him enter free agency? I'm not sure I get this deal.
Another deal: the Marlins trade LHP Scott Olsen and OF Josh Willingham to the Nationals for 2B Emilio Bonifacio and two minor leaguers, 2B Jake Smolinski and RHP P.J. Dean. After having previously traded Mike Jacobs, the Marlins seem to be doing the same salary dumping they did after the two championships they won, except this time they're only coming off an 84-win season.

The Reporters get it right: Pujols takes NL MVP:
http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=370859612 first-place votes for Howard is pure idiocy (as is his outpointing Utley 308-30), but progress comes in baby steps...

Pujols won -- PRAISE JEBUS!!!!! I'm glad. Because anything that puts a limit on the amount of hysterical sanctimonious self-righteous uppity bullshit you spew is worth it.
Besides, I think Ryan Howard got the trophy he really wanted this year...

Oh, and there's this...
QUOTE
Pujols said in 2006, when he finished second to Howard, that Howard didn't deserve to win because the Phillies didn't make the playoffs. Pujols said he was misquoted (or something) and said Howard did deserve to win. He was asked today about that.
“Thanks for opening the door that was already shut,” Pujols said. “I said it in 2006. That guy misunderstood my words. And what I said is the players who take their teams to the playoffs should have some consideration to win the MVP. Obviously, Howard had the numbers that year, just like I had it (this year). His team was in the playoff race until the last week of the season, so I think the writers made the right choice in 2006. He did deserve it. He hit over .300. He hit 58 homers. He had a great year, just like I had, and that’s just how it is.”

Maybe it was the same nitwit who gave Jason Bartlett a 5th-place vote, which was the funniest thing this go-round.

On the one hand, the writers gave 3 votes for Rookie of the Year to Reds pitcher Edinson Volquez even though he wasn't eligible because of the games he pitched for Texas between 2005 and 2007. So the writers are idiots.
On the other hand, Rafael Palmiero was awarded a Gold Glove at 1B in 1999 despite playing only 28 games at 1B, as he was DH most of the time. So the managers and coaches are idiots.
And Albert Pujols says (though who knows if he's telling the truth) that the writers made the right choice in voting for Ryan Howard as MVP in 2006. So the players are idiots.
And based on any number of All-Star votes, the fans are idiots.
So who exactly is supposed to give out these awards?

AND, the BBWAA has just welcomed in Web writers for the first time -- Christina Kahrl and Will Carroll of Baseball Prospectus, and Rob Neyer and Keith Law of ESPN.com, all favorites of mine.
All of whom use VORP, BABiP, etc in their analysis. Writers whom others pillory as "stat geeks."
Revolution, baby!
