Congrats to the Rays. They played tremendous baseball and provided a very entertaining LCS.

I hope they can make the World Series watchable. It's been too many sweeps the past few years. I hope for an exciting world series, with Tampa prevailing in 6.

HELL YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

game 5 comeback/choke provided all the drama.

thank god, cinderella survived the boston red sox gang rape.

congratulations, rays!
Kenny
Seriously, I just have to say the words...

The Tampa Bay Rays are in the WORLD SERIES!!! I am on cloud nine!

4 years ago I got a Chocolate Lab, I named him Rocco, ofcourse after Rocco Baldelli. I never imagined Baldelli would go through what he has over the past couple of years. My dog is the single best animal anyone could wish for. To both Rocco's, here's to you!

Let's Go Rays!

So "choke like dogs" but win game 7. Thats all that matters, is to win the one's you need to! WOO HOO!!!

they did...but much later on....one of the last segments was an on-field interview with longoria but by then the stadium was pretty empty....

Two things that bug me, one is when "fans" refer to their team as "we" or "we're" I hate that....they were scanning the crowds and people are doing the "Yeah! We're Number 1!!" No, the Rays are, you're not on the roster. And 2nd, the fact The Trop is filled to capacity with people who couldn't be bothered to fill it earlier on in the year....

But enough of that, They got their mojo back and pulled it off. While of course I hoped the Sox win, I like that the Rays won because of the story behind it going from worst to first and being counted out, and then going to the World Series.

So anyhoo, now I'm sorta torn.....Phillies are one of my favorite 2 NL teams, but I am an AL boy....so, (son't hate me Joe.....but) I'm pulling for the Rays.
Bill W
yay Rays... What made their victory all the more imperative is that, if the Sox had come back from 3-1 again, we would've heard all winter and next year from Professional Sports Analysts the fiction that "VECH'RAN PRESENCE" matters in the postseason. ESPN was already burying the Rays on Sunday morning.

Lucky first-row HR in Game 6 notwithstanding, it's time for Boston to cut bait on the futilely swingin' Capt Varitek.

lol, C-T stealing my material.
Chill-Trick
Yeah Bill...I, nor anyone else in the world has ever said that before until you did, then eveyone saw what you said and it immediately became world known.

And as far as Tek, there's some "muttering" going on that Kevin Cash may be behind the plate alot more next year.

And something that happened...when Mark Kotsay had a chance to put the Sox ahead and popped up, as he jogged to first, he was pissed and cracked the bat over his leg. Now, with his face fur I thought he was a good looking guy to begin with, but um....did anyone else thing "damn that was hot!" smile.gif

I am very seldom original, C-T.

Joe Sheehan of Baseball Prospectus makes a good point:

Price was the story in the late innings, and I don't want to take away from that. However, you can't write about this game and not at least acknowledge that the decision pitches to Drew and Kotsay were both outside. Not on the black or the corner or any place else; they were outside. Until and unless we get a strike zone that is 17 inches wide all the time, shaped like a rectangle all the time, and located in the same place all the time, baseball will always be a little less than it should be.

I thought you were calling me out saying I was taking from you

Great performance by the Rays and Garza- I didn't think Boston would make it to game seven, but once they did, I thought they'd win. I feel Francona's sticking with Beckett after he'd given up five in game 2 was stupid and may well have lost the series for them. Congratulations loyal Rays fans- I hope your team treats us to some great play in the Series!

"They're Number 1" doesn't have the same ring to it. So the phrase "we're number 1" is okay, but other than that specific instance, I agree.

Attendance was up. TV ratings were WAY up. Merchandise sales were through the roof. So, your comment about "filled to capacity" just doesn't work. Find me a city with a team that hadn't won more than 70 games before that sold their building out instantly with their change in fortunes.

And yes, WE are number one. I have invested in the Rays with my time and money... therefore, WE are number one.
Chill-Trick
No, you're not. The Rays are number one. You're not on the roster. The team you are a fan of is number one.

Don't know the Rockies winning numbers last year, but they couldn't fill Coors field...until they were well on their way to the post season, it was filled with bandwagon jumpers who claimed to be fans all along. And the same with Rays this year, at the beginning, no one is around but as soon as they started getting noticed, all the "hardcore" fans suddenly appeared.
Joe in Philly
Sold out their building "instantly"? What? Tampa Bay attendance was dismal -- in fact, embarrassing -- until late in the season. Even in September they weren't selling out their games. As late as Sept. 18th they had an announced attendance of 17,296 for a game against Minnesota, another team trying to make the playoffs at the time.

Tampa Bay surely has some dedicated fans, but many people have clearly jumped on the bandwagon.

I was at that game, thanks. I may not have made my point clear... because that is my point. It doesn't happen instantly, especially when all you've done for 10 years is lose.

So a roster spot is your qualification? Whatever.
Kenny
If complaining and hating about people using the words "we" are all you have to complain about in life, I would count your blessings, you have it pretty good. Although, I guess I can relate to it in one way as I hate when people ask if I want a POP? Uh no, cuz if you hit met I will hit you back! lol

Sooner, you going Wednesday?

No, unfortunately my dad's streak of winning the ticket lottery ended today.

You?
phillyrunner
I am not sure that this is true but some local announcers suggested that if Phillies fans really want to see a game, it may be easier and less costly to fly to Tampa, based on Stub-Hub prices. Should there be a game 5, I already have a ticket for that. The prices people are asking up here are crazy. A $150 face value ticket in my section ranges from $850-$1600. If Boston was still in it the prices would be absurd. I don't have free time during the week though, otherwise I might have considered seeing an away game.
Joe in Philly
I have the free time but not the money. ohmy.gif

I have my 2 season tickets and I got 4 more, but looks like I have sold those. I have 4 others for game 2 still yet to sell.
