Interesting article on the poor timing (for players/owners) of this year's possible baseball strike:

Yikes!

This is why I'm certain that there WILL NOT BE a strike this year. Right before the deadline, I think the players will give in to the demands of the owners, and a strike will be averted...and the players will be held on a pedestal for years. "They put aside their own needs so that a tragic anniversary would not be marred." Meanwhile, the owners become the victims of such bad press that the next time something like this occurs, they will have to give the Players Association everything it wants.

(wanting to put a face here, but not even the anger face correctly relays my feelings toward the Boys of Summer right now)

Last week during the all star break, Tom Glavine said he believes there won't be a strike either. Thats a good sign since he's one of the players reps.

Joe in Philly
Tom Glavine is saying what he's saying as a public relations strategy, nothing more. Barring one of the biggest miracles in all of recorded history, the players WILL go on strike before the season is over.

From today's Phila. Daily News...

[quote] Larry Bowa frequently has considered visiting Ground Zero, but he has resisted going to the site of the World Trade Center devastation. He doesn't think he could handle it.

"It would really bother me, what people have gone through," Bowa said. Then, he reiterated his disgust at the thought of millionaire players and billionaire owners reaching a bargaining impasse that could result in a work stoppage:

"The World Series and baseball helped the healing process. The whole country was on its knees. To have baseball stop after it helped people get through their loss - to shut it down would be disastrous."

[quote] Ha ha! That's a good one. Players giving in to the owners. That's a knee slapper if I ever heard one!

Hysterical laughter was my first reaction when I heard about the Expos-Marlins-Red Sox ownership swap, Ted Williams being frozen in Scottsdale, and that the All-Star game ended in a tie (couldn't watch it ). Nothing would surprise me anymore Ump.
