UFC 93 is upon us (Saturday Jan 17) directly from Ireland. These are the fights and my picks:

Light Heavyweight Rich Franklin (2nd Round KO) vs. Dan Henderson

Light Heavyweight Mark Coleman vs Mauricio Rua (1st Round KO)

Middleweight Alan Belcher vs Denis Kang (2nd Round KO)

Middleweight Jeremy Horn vs Rousimar Palhares ( 1st Round Submission)

Welterweight Marcus Davis (2nd Round Submission) vs. Chris Lytle

Welterweight Martin Kampmann vs Alexandre Barros (2nd Round Submission)

Light Heavyweight Eric Schafer vs Antonio Mendes (1st Round KO)

Light Heavyweight Tomasz Drwal (2nd Round KO) vs Ivan Serati

Welterweight Tom Egan vs John Hathaway (1st Round KO)

Lightweight Dennis Siver vs Nate Mohr (2nd Round KO)

I can't wait to see the Davis-Lytle match-up. Rua should have an easy defeat of the "old-timer" Coleman and Franklin hopefully will prevail against Henderson.

It should be another good fight night..

I don't do PPV ever. Do you?

I always root against Franklin. Matt Hughes as well. Mostly due to their "born-again" status. (I'm pretty sure Jesus wouldn't approve of their chosen careers.) Franklin has long been given privileges/favors form the UFC -- his "rematch" with Silva was in Cincinnati for gawd sakes! I love watching the replay fo both Franklin/Silva fights. Silva destroying him both times. Love it.

I'll be rooting for Henderson but Franklin needs/wants this win more I am guessing. Be interesting if Rua also loses.

YES! Franklin loses a split decision. YES!

What happened to Rua? Damn, was he overrated based on his last two performances. Although he ended up winning by TKO over the old timer Coleman he couldn't close the deal until the last minute of the third round. What a disappointment.

As far as the Franklin fight, it is no accident that they call Henderson "Decision Dan". The first round was close but I gave it to Henderson. The second round was more clearly Henderson and the third was Franklin. It seems that Dan's strategy is to secure the first two rounds and then cruise on the third hoping for the decision. I guess it is a valid strategy but not very exciting for the fans. My only regret with Henderson's victory is that he will be the next coach of TUF which will probably make it into a boring season.

My favorite fight was the Lytle-Davis encounter. These guys are two great strikers. The fight rarely went to the ground. Three rounds of pure exciting give and take... awesome

The results of all the fights were:

Light Heavyweight Rich Franklin vs Dan Henderson - Henderson by Dec (round 3)

Light Heavyweight Mark Coleman vs Mauricio Rua - Rua by TKO (round 3)

Middleweight Alan Belcher vs Denis Kang - Belcher by Sub (round 2)

Middleweight Jeremy Horn vs Rousimar Palhares - Palhares by Dec (round 3)

Welterweight Marcus Davis vs Chris Lytle - Davis by Dec (round 3)

Welterweight Martin Kampmann vs Alexandre Barros - Kampmann by TKO (round 2)

Light Heavyweight Eric Schafer vs Antonio Mendes - Schafer by TKO (round 1)

Light Heavyweight Tomasz Drwal vs Ivan Serati - Drwal by TKO (round 1)

Welterweight Tom Egan vs John Hathaway - Hathaway by TKO (round 1)

Lightweight Dennis Siver vs Nate Mohr - Siver by TKO (round 3)

My first PPV was UFC 91. I liked it so much that I bought UFC 92. I wasn't really excited about 93 so I went to a local bar to watch it. It was awesome. Since the fight was in the afternoon (from Ireland) there weren't that many people and all the screens (at least 20) were playing the fight with full sound and everything. I went with my better half and we spent $60 with food and drinks. Not a bad deal for a great Saturday afternoon.

TUF is pretty low-quality entertainment. You never really get to know more than 3-4 of the fighters, the fights are (obviously) pretty sloppy. The eye candy can make it watchable though!

Really looking forward to GSP/Penn.

Met a guy who works at my gym who also trains with Tamdan McCrory.

PS my other half hates MMA so I envy you.

Don't get me wrong. Mine tolerates it at most... and my other friends think I'm insane (even some of the straight ones)...

Very lonely for the gay MMA fan I guess....lol
