North Dakota is doing what they usually do. . . comin' on in the second half of the season. I'd just like to see them finish and get another national championship.

I've got to admit, I was surprised to even see a college hockey thread on here. I'm usually more of a lurker, but figured I'd respond to this... lively... thread.

I'm a Northeastern grad and hockey fan, and I can't even begin to say how welcome of a change this season has been. Last year was a tease for alumni and fans alike, but this year they've found a sense of consistency. The HEA in general has been outstanding this year. BU has a ridiculously stacked team this year with a quality freshman goalie backing them up. Right now they're my pick for national champs.

It's interesting to see how these poll results compare to the current PWR, as they haven't exactly been reflecting them throughout the season.

All I know is that I want to see five HEA teams in the NCAA Tourney!!!

The current top-5 ranked teams courtesy of USCHO.com are:

1. Boston University - a win over Merrimack and a Beanpot game tonight
2. Notre Dame - a loss and a win against #4 Michigan
3. Northeastern - a loss to Massachusettes and a Beanpot game tonight
4. Michigan - a loss and a win over #2 Notre Dame
5. Cornell - a loss to St. Lawrence and a tie with Clarkson

Minnesota drops to #9 after two losses to Minnesota State.

I am skeptical that Hockey East will get five teams into the NCAA Tourny.

For all of those College Hockey fans, I missed last weeks rankings and must apologize for my slacking.

5. Miami - of Oxfard, Ohio not Florida

It is with great sadess that I also report that my beloved Cornell has sunk to #11 after a run in the top 5.

I've usually been on here every now and again past years, but last year and this year I just really haven't been up to it. After being released from the team during the offseason after winning the conference and going to nationals and this being year 2, I'm starting to feel I can open up about anything and everything now.

Right now for the past two years, UAH has been in a bad situation with a horrible coach. There's no positive energy flowing at all, always negative critiques of the players, and has chased away several of the fan support as well as additional community help. Several players have left the univ early to play elsewhere Hilbert and Galerno were two that went to Europe. Both good players. Its a long way to fall down from Joe Rich and Doug Ross leading the helm. I'm just glad that former Asst. Coach Lance West is doing well as Asst up at Alaska.

Ugh. Sorry to hear that you were released and to hear just how bad things have gotten at UAH.

Just heard that Bowling Green will not be cutting their hockey program (for now) as had been rumored. Happy to hear that.

I think the Hobey Baker finalists will be announced tonight.

Yeah I was with the team from 99-00 season to where we went to the nationals up at Grand Rapids. If you watch you see me on the right side of the bench. I admit I was a bit embarassed that the camera set on me and my friend a few times during the game. C'mon there were other more important people to film. But eight years was a fun ride and I'm 27 so still alot of fun to be had around ice hockey, plus a conference championship ring is a nice thing to have.

As for BGSU, yes I agree that is good news. I remember when Fairfield came down the weekend they found out their program was cut. They just didn't have the heart to play. We need hockey programs to stick together so matter where they are, how good they are, etc. The only thing that worries me is their president is the same one that cut Kent State's program when she was there, so she does have a track record in this field.

In other good news for hockey this is the first year where there's an SEC club championship. So in that positive line of thinking there was talk among club players that they're leading the way in 9-10 years that those programs will move up to NCAA D-1. That's just good positivity that you need for your school and future ice hockey collegiate program.

Well, it looks like the Frozen Four is all set now. Quite the weekend. I don't know who showed up to play Bemidji State the other nite. It sure wasn't the same Notre Dame team that played so well this season. Happy to see Bemidji State in though. I grew up a little NW of there. Though they got there through your beloved Cornell. Would rather have seen Air Force rather than Vermont, but that was one heck of a game!!! Nice to Miami in there as well.

Well, for those of us who are die hard college hockey fans, this year's FF in DC was quite an event. First, let me say that DC was a most unexpected and pleasant surprise. My first time there to visit and I had a great time. Good food, nice people, lots to do, good transit system, etc. Terrific final game. BU and Miami were so evenly matched. As a HockeyEast fan for years and years and as someone who has seen BU pull games out in the last moment many times, it came as no surprise it happened. It was shocking how they did it! Congrats to them. Well done.

Next year, we're off to Detroit. GAWD, I am not excited about that. I think the venue (Ford Field) sucks, I think people will stay away in droves unless Michigan or State is in the final. Dunno on that one.

Hey, fellow HE fans, let's yak sometime about our league.

I'm a student at BG and grew up playing hockey in the area, and I hate to say it, but don't get your hopes up with the Falcons sticking around. BGSU is cutting quite a bit for most of their sports teams due to economic backlash on campus (the campus lost $15 mill in a fraud scandal). There still are no plans to do anything with the arena, and for those who haven't been there, it's just terrible. Even if a new arena were to somehow come into the picture, the local youth organizations that are the primary tenants (other than BGHS) are near folding, and have had to merge with some of the surrounding youth hockey associations just to keep numbers high enough to have teams. Without the money coming in from those organizations, there just doesn't seem to be the money coming in to be able to do anything about it. It's a terrible situation, and I'm afraid Carol Cartwright is going to strike again.

Detroit is a hockey town (and more fun than most people realize), but I agree that Ford Field is a terrible venue. Not sure why they picked it instead of Joe Louis.

Sad to hear Bowling Green is potentially losing its program. As a grad of a CCHA school (Western Michigan), I remember some great games against BG. Of course, I also remember when Jim Culhane was on the ice playing and not on the bench coaching.

Go Wings!

College hockey rocks. Some very surprising results so far this 2009-10 season. Miami is the team to bear. Playing with a vengence. Pissed off, totally, I am sure at the results last season in the Frozen Four. Great game to see in person, however.

Wow, the world has turned upside down. Who'd have thought UMass-Lowell would be ranked so high at this point in the season? UML hosts Maine on Friday night, 11/26/09. Should be a great test for the young Maine team at Tsongas Arena. I'll be there! Hope the game is close. A win for Maine would be better! LOL

Nice to see Michigan State playing better this year....
MichaelMaineFan
hiya, Miami...

State is playing better this year. Takes a while to rebuild after a National Champ season. Many blast off to the pros. Lots of shoes, er skates, to fill.

Maine had a good weekend. Upset #3 UMass-Lowell on Friday night, 3-1 in Lowell and then POUNDED St. Lawrence on Saturday night, 10-1. Saw both games. Maine is looking better and better as the season goes on. Will probably be in the thick of the HE tourney this year after several years missing the semi finals. Hard to say.

Am likely going to pass on Detroit this year. I have never been enthused about going there for the FF. I think the NC2A messed up on this one. Won't sell out unless State or Michigan are there, mostly likely. Serves 'em right for picking a shitty location.

Just my $.02
