Hate to puncture the widespread utopian fantasies, but...

QUOTE
Eric Holder said at his confirmation hearing Thursday before the Senate Judiciary Committee that he supports renewing a section of the USA Patriot Act that allows FBI agents investigating international terrorism or espionage to seek records from businesses, libraries and bookstores. If not renewed by Congress, the provision will expire at the end of 2009.

The searches must be authorized by a court that meets secretly and has approved the government's requests in nearly all cases, according to congressional reports.
The target of the search does not have to be suspected of terrorism or any other crime. A permanent gag order that accompanies each search prohibits the business or library from telling anyone about it....

I'll wait to see if they demand the right to searches without court authorization, even after the fact.

This is still bad enough, and unconstitutional.

And almost no one cares.

No, people do care.

I'm going to see what happens, but also contact Holder's office and my Congresspeople, urging them not to renew ANY portion of the Patriot Bills I-II.

Rather than ranting, why not take some action?

Bill, is this the same Holder who under Clinton looked the other way on all those questionable and quid pro quo pardons?

Just askin'.

Contrarian, my ass LOL

This is pure instigation, adding fuel to fire....

What do you get by purposefully trying to instigate?

As soon as someone posts in reply, you will try to play the "Devil's Advocate", the martyr...

Dude, you have some serious passive-aggressive issues..

Oh, I'm sorry. I forgot that no one here is permitted to dare criticize ANYthing President Obama does. I keep forgetting I need to goose-step to whatever it is kick or a few others say.

Look, Mr. Kool-Aid drinker, I like most of Obama's cabinet choices. I think he has surrounded himself with some intelligent people; but this doesn't mean they're all good. Holder should not be confirmed, and Geithner should absolutely not have been confirmed! If you or I did what he did, we'd be in a heap of trouble from the IRS. What he did was no accident or mistake; it was an intentional act by someone who is now the guy in charge of the IRS and our country's finances!

I commend those courageous Democrats who saw this and voted against this. Hell, even Socialist Bernie Sanders said this and voted against the guy. Too bad Holder will sail through, despite his despicable behavior in the Rich pardon affair.

I'm an Illinoisan, where corruption is so rampant it's basically second nature to politicians here, both Republicans and Democrats. I do not tolerate or accept any of this crap from any politician, regardless of whether they have the "D" after their name.

See- this is a much better post! You explained your opinion and I can respect that.

When you just throw something down for the sake of presenting that view without any explanation- that is sensationalizing and purposefully antagonistic..... and will illicit responses that are emotional and less thought out as a result.

Anyways- you took my post as disagreeing with your sentiment- I neither said that I agreed or disagreed with Obama's pick of Holder.

Well, if you're expecting me to apologize, I can't. I'm too passive-agressive, among other things.

I expect nothing from you other than the continuing Contrarian.
Crew Chief
Neither do I, so at least you finally agree with me on something. tongue.gif

The sad thing is we would probably get along well in real life.

I love intelligent conversation- my pet peeves are those who instigate for the purpose of illiciting anger/emotion rather than intellect. I think that is where I get pissed reading some of your posts...
Crew Chief
I don't instigate just to piss people off--even though I think that's probably one of the only things at which I excel in life anyway; rather, I intentionally throw some points out there to at least get people to think outside the box or to think unlike all of us other liberals or left-of-center usually think.
