Bruce Smith and Bills owner Ralph Wilson are among six men to be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame this summer. Also in are Chiefs LB Derrick Thomas, Vikings guard Randall McDaniel, Cowboys WR Bob Hayes and Steelers defensive back Rod Woodson.
Among the ridiculously left out was Vikings WR Cris Carter.
Coincidentally, the Bills will play in the Hall of Fame game on August 9th.

This is the second time that Carter has been passed over and he wasn't even a "finalist" this year; he was devastated last year so I can only imagine how he feels this year; I think that there are enough writers in the "group of 40" voters that have bad memories about Carter's early days...
Shannon Sharpe must also be stunned; his mouth is what probably kept him out...

I heard somebody say on ESPN this morning that no WR has ever made it in their first year of eligibility(explaining last year's exclusion) and that the writers didn't want to put Carter in before Jerry Rice, who is a mortal lock next year. So Carter may not even get in then. Just ridiculous.
Others have suggested that there is a bias against WRs because they touch the ball so infrequently. Ok fine. But don't these boobs realize that the great WRs also help with the running game and allow other receivers to get open because they attract so much attention? And you can only be compared to others at your position. It's why I despise the bias against kickers and punters. They are part of the game and a great kicker or punter can have a huge impact on a team's success. These writers act like the only positions are QB and RB and vote OLs and most defensive players based on how many Pro Bowls they made.
And Carter, when he retired, was second all time in receptions and TD catches. What the hell else do they want from a guy? Okay so he never won a ring. But this is a TEAM sport.
