Not a good way to christen the new stadium. Pelfry has to get his act together. Let's hope they win the remaining games against SD!

It was good to see Piazza, although he could stand to run an extra mile or two each day! tongue.gif
WChip
It was good to see Wright get the first hit and home run at least. The ballpark looked great! Pelfrey, Perez and Maine are the keys to the season- everything else should be fine.
Bill W
First home win, with no help from Sheffield.

mets lose 2 of 3 to the freaking padres.

starting rotation is a major concern. that and the offense's inability to hit with RISP.
Bill W
When you build a modern ballpark designed for "fans" who are not that interested in baseball, you deserve to lose a run when a freakin' idiot in the stands -- WEARING A METS JERSEY -- picks up a double down the leftfield line.
mets57
yay, first walk-off win at citi courtesy of luis castillo.

sheff hit a game-tying homer in the 7th inning, his 500th career homer.
mets57
johan throws another gem and mets win 1-0.

great game, but the futility with RISP is very aggravating. 0-5 today.
mets57
pathetic. this team is garbage.
Bill W
Fair weather friend?

Be patient. It's a rough patch.

A rough patch is another way of say the Cardinals kicked their *sses.
Bill W

do you really think the non-Johan starters are going to have a 7.32 ERA all year?

let's pretend we've seen a 6-month baseball season before.
mets57
mets' ineptitude with RISP (2-18) continues. horrific.

thankfully johan didn't need that much run support.

jerseyguy
This team needs a lot of improvement in a hurry. There are plenty of problems, not the least of which is hitting with RISP. Defense has been bad, starting pitching - after Santana - has been horrible, clutch hitting is non-existent. These Mets play with no energy or fire. They need to get their heads in the game.
WChip
It was great to see Citi Field yesterday- very much liked the intimacy of it relative to Shea. The area near the specialty vendors was too crowded. There are lots of people standing watching the game and I kind of liked that. They need more bathrooms in the left field area where we were and more toilets(those were weird) and partitions between the toilets since people are kind of hanging out with that design (some may like that!). It was good to see Pelfrey pitch decently and Beltran and Church hit well- still I had the feeling they would have lost against most other teams on this day. Looks like Ollie may get to revisit life in the minors with 4 in the first three innings today- maybe they were unearned, didn't check.
mets57
perez is a piece of shit pitcher. he's a f**king garbage. i hate that f**king motherf**king ass****. f**k him!
MattMetsFan
I thought Perez was supposed to be the epitome of a "big game pitcher." What game could be bigger than when you know your spot in the rotation is on the line? That was awful today. Any chance Tim Redding will be all set to go soon?
MetsfanChi
Here's an article that sums up the torture.

good game last night.

mets mailed it in (as they did so many times since last year) after florida took the lead.

what a bunch of pathetic losers.
WChip
Bullpen problems again today and Wright has been awful the last two weeks.
mets57
f**k wright.

f**k wright.

Yeah, f**k one of your franchise's 5 premier players in their history. Your hysteria is really worrying.

That game is at least tied if the hit-by-pitch is a wild pitch. You are putting too much stock in close defeats; things will improve.
MattMetsFan
So, as of right now, Perez is in the bullpen. I don't know how I feel about this. Manuel apparently said that he would be a situational pitcher, which, as SNY pointed out, means he may be pitching in big spots. That scares me. Send him down, fix what's wrong with him, and THEN bring him back. The team is not in a position to let him fix it on the major league level.
Joe in Philly
I believe I heard during the broadcast the other day that Perez can now refuse to go to the minors, based on how long he's been in the majors. So it's possible that they asked him and he refused. Last year the Phillies asked Brett Myers to go to the minors and he accepted, and we all know how that turned out. smile.gif You'd think that would be a lesson for Perez, if in fact he refused a minor league assignment.
mets57
based on five years of major league service.

perez is garbage and a total a-hole for refusing demotion. putting him in the pen is just dumb.
MattMetsFan
Well, if that is the case, I hope he only gets used in blowouts or mop-up work for now. I just don't trust him to do the job in a tough situation. Doesn't he have something like 21 walks in 21 innings? He can;t be a situational pitcher in the bullpen! Not yet, at least.

Great win today, by the way. Good to see them come from behind, for once. smile.gif

According to the article I read, he wasn't asked to go to the minors.
mets57
well, mets won't publicly acknowledge their 36 million dollar disaster. there's no way you can straighten him up doing side sessions or pitching in a mop up role.
Bill W
yes, rapping Perez in the media would make a lot of sense. I think we should be glad you're just a tantrum-throwing headcase in the stands instead of a GM.

and f**k that Wright HR last night, huh?
mets57
shaddup, i love wright.

mets survive a horrible error by delgado in the 9th.

a modest 2-game winning streak.

mets-phillies games are killing me.

Yeah, but will he buy some gourmet cupcakes from you and leave you with a personalized thank-you? wink.gif

(Sorry, just had to say it.) hehe
WChip
Another decent outing from Pelfrey and Wright continues his recent hot hitting(and Beltran his year long hot hitting). Last night was one of the few appearances (it seems) where Feliciano didn't give up some runs. I was hoping he wouldn't be back this year.
mets57
i didn't want feliciano back, but he's still pretty good vs. lefties.
MetsfanChi
Victorino is the biggest punk playing baseball now. Mr. Parnell or Putz needs to put him back in his place after that bush league play.
MattMetsFan
Which play? I didn't watch the game!!!
WChip
Victorino was caught in a run-down between first and second and clearly created contact with Reyes but was rewarded for his acting job. You can watch it on the Mets' MLB site -click on the story about Manuel being suspended for one game.
mets57
how about the good looking third string catcher omir santos? a career minor leaguer, but he already has some big hits for the mets. i don't mind if schneider stays on the DL for a long time.
mets57
nice to see the hunky, sexy, and uber HOT BRIAN WILSON blow a tie game in the 9th. good job, brian.

i love you, you sexy hunk! smile.gif

nice win by the mets. 7 steals, a met record.

it's livan vs. lincecum tomorrow. tough match up.
mets57
another poor outing by the hunky, sexy, and uber hot brian wilson. i wanna hug him.

mets steal the game from lincecum, wilson and the giants.

THE ACE tomorrow. can we give johan some RUN support please?
WChip
Nice comeback! Although, it was disappointing they didn't get Wright in from third with 0 outs and needed an error from the Giants to push across the go-ahead run later. It's sounding like we won't have the run producing Delgado this year- avoiding surgery will probably just mess up his swing and having it will keep him out for a while and who knows what we get when he comes back.
MattMetsFan
Delgado on the 15 day DL...Angel Pagan is replacing him on the roster.

I guess this means some combination of Tatis, Murphy, and Reed(?) at 1st base. Can Pagan play 1st, or is he an outfielder?
MetsfanChi
Pagan is an OF. I thought they might try Shef out at 1B.

3 in a row, goin for a 4 game sweep tomorrow! Get at'em boys.
mets57
tatis, reed, and murphy will platoon 1b.

delgado might need surgery. who know if he's coming back this season.
Bill W
You can't "platoon" 3 people; Jerry simply is doing a trial period, it sounds like.
mets57
yeah, jerry said he'll play first base before murphy ever does.
mets57

LOS ANGELES (AP)—New York Mets slugger Carlos Delgado(notes) will have arthroscopic surgery Tuesday on his right hip, and there’s no immediate word on when he might return to the lineup.

The Mets, who entered Monday leading the NL East by a half-game over Philadelphia, said Delgado has a bone spur and a torn labrum in his hip. Team spokesman Jay Horwitz said no timetable for Delgado’s return will be decided until after the operation.
