What do you think is the most likely scenario for the Todd Zeile/Mets situation? Pick one.

A) He will actually beat out Mo Vaughn for the 1st base job.
cool.gif He will stay with the Mets backing up Mo Vaughn at 1st base.
C) He will become an everyday outfielder for the Mets.
D) He will become a utility player/pinch-hitter for the Mets.
E) He will be traded before the start of the season to a NL team.
F) He will be traded to an AL team to be used as a DH/1B for that team.
G) He will play in Japan.

He will play with me.

Answer: C and D

I would guess "F" as long as the Mets agree to throw some cash into the deal.

I think E is the likeliest scenario, but the Mets should keep him as backup to Mo Vaughn who will more than likely become injured at some point early in the season--if the last two seasons are any indication.

They are definitely going to need Zeile after Vaughn sprains an ankle running to the buffet table. I don't see any upside to getting Vaughn at all, unless he can somehow get transported via a Way Back Machine to 1995!

I'm with George...

That Mo Vaughn deal is all hype, particularly now after the "deferred" payment to make room for the Juan Gonzalez deal that never happened...

keep Zeile, they'll need him to take over at first by May 15th or so...

Don't wanna be negative, just keeping it real

I couldn't figure out why any NL team would pick up Vaughn, to be honest. He may still be able to hit, but his fielding is going to be atrocious. My guess is Zeile still gets plenty of play at first next year.

As much as I don't like the Mo Vaughn deal - let's not forget that Steve Phillips and Bobby Valentine know a little more about baseball than we do. If they are willing to take the risk on Vaughn - I'd have to believe it's a full informed decision. I'd love to see Vaughn have his best year yet.

As for Zeile, a Met fave of mine, let's hope he's traded to a team that will play him. With Ventura gone and Piazza firmly supporting Vaughn, I don't think Zeile has many allies to champion his playing time if he's still at Shea next season.

I'll bet the GM and manager of the Anaheim Angels think THEY know more about baseball than we do as well, and look how well that worked out! I, too, hope Vaughn succeeds. I just think its more likely he won't.
