The son of T.D. Jakes — the Dallas megachurch pastor who’s called homosexuality a “brokenness” and declared that he would never hire a sexually active gay person — was arrested in a gay sex sting in Kiest Park in January, according to Dallas police reports.

Jermaine Donnell Jakes, 29, faces a charge of indecent exposure after allegedly exposing himself in front of two undercover vice detectives shortly after 10 p.m. on Jan. 3. Senior Cpl. Janice Crowther, a DPD spokeswoman, confirmed Thursday, Feb. 12 that the detectives were both male.

While certainly not advocating the type of public sexual activity that young Jakes allegedly took part in, if true I have sympathy for the guy imaging the constant pressures he must have lived under being gay and having a father who preached so publically against homosexuals.

When I have occassionally encountered virulent anti gays types, its a question I have always asked them, would you says the same things if your son or daughter or grandchild came to you and said they were gay. It usually makes then incredibly uncomfortable but I always hoped they went home and thought about it.

Funny, I don't feel broken. I guess that reverand or whatever he calls himself is wrong. Wait, no, actually, HE may be the broke one after all the attoney's fees he will be spending on his son. Ah, karma, what a beautiful thing! laugh.gif

I'm no theologian but isn't there something in the bible about the sons having to pay for the sins of the father or something like that? A bit of irony in this case.

I'm with you, swiminbuff. I cannot imagine the turmoil that he must face, knowing that your father rejects and condemns who he is. I'm not one for Schadenfreude. I certainly condemn the hatred of the man's father. It's a shame that many pastors, priests, rabbis, and ministers forget "Love thy Neighbor as Thyself." (Leviticus 19:18)

Years ago a friend told me that Jakes's son was gay (I think the daughter has had her own problems too), and that Jakes was up in his church condemning gay people left and right. As soon as I heard that I immediately thought, those poor kids.... But, am I the only person who thinks Miss Rev. Jakes is a raging closet case? He is often more femmy than Beyonce or Rihanna! I hope his son doesn't get some horrible sex-offender label slapped on him, and I especially hope he finds some peace. Having someone like Jakes for a father can't be easy even if you were the perfect child.

Count me in on those who thought T.D. Jakes had some "how you doin" goin on. My best friend said he knew the first time he saw Ted Haggard on tv that he was familia.

But I do feel sorry for Jake's son. This is not something to be celebrating because as far as I know, Jermaine didn't condemn or say anything against homosexuality.
