I would love to know what you all think about Jim Calhoun, and his rant about the officiating in the Big East after Pitt beat UConn on Monday. In his press conference he told the media that "in the next game we will get back to playing basketball." He also said he was not going to get into trouble by saying what he really WANTED to say about "one guy" and that the style of play by that "one guy" is suited for the "NBA." We all know the ONE GUY he is referring to is DeJuan Blair. The sour grapes came after Blair schooled Calhoun's Big East "player of the year candidate" Hasheem Thabeet.
Is Calhoun an idiot or what? Has he watched his own team play over the years? Does he see Jeff Adrien push people every trip down the court? He is a Hall of Famer who can basically say whatever he wants to say. I thought it was hysterical during the game when Calhoun was chomping in one of the ref's ears for like 5 minutes, and Jamie Dixon was standing by, arms crossed, laughing at how ridiculous Calhoun is.
So, is he just trying to grandstand and motivate his team for the rematch on March 7 in Pittsburgh, or does he really think they lost that game because Blair pushed Thabeet a couple of times and got away with it?

He's always jockeying for an edge- always has. I doubt he believes much of what he said- it's just his way to fight for his guys in whatever way he can.

I think you are probably right...it's annoying as hell to anyne who doesn't root for UConn.
Do others think the Big East is allowed to be more physical than other leagues? The fear in Pittsburgh is always that our teams have to be careful in the tournament because refs from other leagues won't let players get away with nearly as much as Big East refs do. To me, watching games on TV (obviously), it seems that other leagues are just as physical....

Yes, a very worthy accomplishment. And he was even uncharacteristically gracious about praising Marquette during the post-game interview. Funny how he never said one word about Pitt being a good team after we beat them. It's easy to be gracious when you win. He's the most ungracious loser in the game.
