Free agency started today and some trades happened too.

Just being reported by NFL Network: the Eagles have finally dumped Lito Sheppard. When they signed his replacement Asante Samuel there were high expectations that Lito could be included in a package to get a big-name receiver. Even after a season in which his playing time was reduced to the point that he barely even got on the field in the NFC title game, the Eagles were still saying they thought he had value and wouldn't necessarily be traded. Well, now he's going to the Jets for a 2009 5th-round pick and a conditional 2010 pick. tongue.gif Correll Buckhalter has signed with Denver. He'll get a chance to start, something that wouldn't happen here with Brian Westbrook around.

A SF Chronicle writer says Brian Dawkins also will sign with Denver. He's 35 and not nearly the player he used to be, but if this turns out to be true this is a public relations DISASTER for the Eagles.

Meanwhile, the Vikings acquired a QB to challenge Tarvaris Jackson for the starting job: Sage Rosenfels!?! laugh.gif

Edit to update: CSNPhilly.com reports Dawkins will sign with Denver. Let the PR disaster commence. They also report that TJ Houshmandzadeh and/or his agent are sleazy liars. Their source says: "Kennard McGuire (agent) called the Eagles on Friday and claimed his client was willing to sacrifice salary in order to play in Philadelphia. But after doing their due diligence, the Eagles discovered that McGuire was actually asking more from them than he was from other teams." The Eagles now have no more interest in TJ Whosyamama.

Dawkins to Denver mad.gif

And how on earth did a deal sending Mike Vrabel from the Patriots to the Chiefs for an undisclosed draft pick, announced yesterday, turn into Vrabel and Matt Cassel for just a second-round pick? blink.gif

Can't the Cassel-Vrabel trade for bottom pick be considered collusion?

It reminds me of the Jerry West dealing Gasol to the Lakers/Kevin McHale dealing KG to Celtics crap. It diminishes competition and doesn't seem fair.

Jake Delhomme signed a 5-yr. contract extension.

Tony Gonzalez was traded to the Falcons.

I am probably only one of the few that is ecstatic about Delhomme's five year contract extension! Jake gets a bad rap and I hate to say it, but most of the Carolina Panther fans are not very loyal and forgiving. Overall, Jake had one bad game. Too bad it was an important game, but that is football. This past season sure beat the 2007 season. David Carr is not even mentioned in some recaps of the 2007 Panthers season.

Jake is the man and I am proud to stand by him.
