Very sad

Oh god. And it just broke that he was legally drunk when it happened. Wow. Your career is over dude.

Well 7am on a Sunday morning driving around South Beach in the Bentley...what was more likely...he was on his way to church or the gym or that he was leaving an after hours club? And I hope his career IS over...after all another man's life is.

Stallworth to be charged with DUI manslaughter.

Stallworth to serve 30 days for DUI Manslaughter

30 days in jail after a man's life is taken??!! The undisclosed settlement I'm sure helped the family in their willingness to wrap things up quickly. But, as is stated in the article...Stallworth is not a troublemaker, cooperated with the police, and took full responsibility for it. Unfortunately, just a tragic and idiotic mistake that cost one man his life, and another his NFL career most likely. 30 days in jail, 2 years house arrest, and 8 years probation is something Stallworth should be thankful for.

This sentence is a phucking joke! You know damn well that if you or I were in the same boat we'd be serving @ least 15 years in the slammer. Regardless if he was cooperating or not he got behind the wheel of a vehicle legally drunk--a dangerous combo turned into a weapon! mad.gif

I couldn't believe it when I read the sentence. I sincerely doubt that Joe Ordinary would have gotten off this lightly. I can only assume the financial settlement must have been substantial but I do believe it sends a very Bad message to the general public about what happens when you drink and drive and kill someone. MADD should be outraged.

Yep! The message it sends is that as long as you have money you can buy your way out of a crime. & we in the 1st world criticize other corrupt countries for their flawed legal systems. rolleyes.gif ...

Where is the justice in this? mad.gif

Well thats exactly what it means re: the money aspect of it. Thats just life. Claus von Bulow, OJ Simpson, Robert Blake. I mean when you have access to the best lawyers around instead of the public defender, its going to make a difference. I mean yeah they say he cooperated with the police and plead guilty and is taking full responsibility, but his BAC was not like .09 or .10 just above. It was WELL OVER the limit. If Donte Stallworth was a street sweeper he'd be Donte the street sweeping drunk driving killer. Definitely sends a bad message as someone who was a part of SADD in High School. But yeah when I first read the headling of 30 days I blinked my eyes tightly a couple times to make sure I was reading it right, and then assumed that they threw the book at him and meant 30 YEARS!! But, oh no...30 DAYS. He should be on his knees thanking God for that because he got off big time.

I work in a minimum security prison--mostly DUIs and minor drug offenses. If this guy had done this in my state, he would have gotten 2nd degree murder and a couple of decades behind bars. Arizona is stricter than most, but the sentence this guy got is a crime in itself. You can't kill innocent people like that even if it was just negligence and/or stupidity.
Think before you drink and get behind the wheel! It could put you behind bars.

PS. I always wonder why the word "accident" is used to describe a collision. that is making a legal judgement. Sometimes, these incidents are not accidents. I have had people crash their cars into me so they could try to get insurance money out of me. That's no accident.

Goodell is also suspending Stallworth indefinitely. Most NFL analysts are saying it will be at least one year.

Actually, I'm not even gonna hate on Stallworth so much in this one. He did what the system allowed him to do. As the expression goes, don't hate the playa...hate the game. Now he's an idiot for getting behind the wheel of a car drunk, but the fact that we have a judge and a prosecutor and a criminal "justice" system who thought this sentence was justice is what people should be outraged about. The fact that the prosecutor and judge allowed some rich athlete to basically buy his way out of this one with what I'm sure was a very generous settlement is the tragedy here. It sends the wrong message and continues to show that its not blind justice. If you have money you can buy your way out...if you are some poor schlup then you are just S.O.L. Its the system that needs changing. Hell...I know I'd give up some of my money to not have to do time in jail. Stallworth simply took advantage of how the system was set up....the same way that everyone else with money is allowed to do.

Anyone see any irony in this sentence when Mike Vick did years over some f*cking dogs?

Maybe if the guy Stallworth hit was walking his pooch more would have been made of it. This is why people hate PETA.

As much of a dog lover as I am, I totally agree jay. Its absurd.

Why be mad at PETA? Yeah they can be annoying and extreme...but you should be mad the criminal justice system that gave Stallworth such a light sentence and treats drunk driving so non-challantly, not PETA for fighting for a tougher one for Vick.

And I for one am glad that the system takes into account the fact that Vick denied his involvment, tried to blame others, cover up his crimes and showed zero remorse thus probably resulting in a much tougher sentence than he would have gotten if he'd confessed right from the get go and costing the taxpayers a whole lot of money in the process. What Stallworth did was terrible but at least he was a man about it...he stepped up and took full responsibility.

And which inevitable PSAs are you more likely to believe...Vick's PETA ads or Stallworth's MADD ads? Me thinks Stallworth at least will have learned his lesson. I still don't think Vick has, even to this day.
